Where does Twilight get money?

Ok so early on, it was easy to suggest that Twilight either earned a salary from Ponyville as the town librarian, or that she got a stipend from Celestia as a student "studying abroad". But now things are different. She's no longer a student at all, and the library is burnt toast. Sure she's a princess now, but even if you suggest that she's collecting taxes, where would they come from? She doesn't have any subjects, or domain to rule over. Where could Twilight possibly get any income from now that she's the Princess of Friendship?

The real question should be where does Fluttershy get money. She is the only of the mane six who doesn't have a job, and Ponyville already has a vet. What does Angel pay her taxes?

 

Twilight probably gets some sort of funding for being a princess.

That would depend on the type of government Equestria has. If it had the one that is in America, then it would probably be taxpayers. But doubt it since there's royalty. Maybe Celestia loans her money.

As for Fluttershy, she is an animal interpreter.  How often have you wanted to know just WHY your cat is giving you the cold shoulder today?  Fluttershy can provide the answer.  Want to negotiate with your cat to eat the food you got her, or to wonder why she all of a sudden won't eat such?  Fluttershy can intermediate.  

Need some eggs?  Fluttershy has a supply for sale at her cottage.  

Of course, the prize money from her Shhhh. championship win also helps, and then there are the residual checks from her short modeling career.

Fluttershy - She takes care of animals while others are away. Doubles as a non medical, non surgical vet. Probably just grows all her own food. Most likely sells things she makes. Basically there is no getting around it. Fluttershy is a HIPPIE! she probably grows and sells "questionable plants". Those plants are probably legal in equestria like they are becoming here around the world and in the US. 

 

Pinkie Pie - Party Planner. Ponies pay her for her services in throwing parties, she also has connections to the best catering services and DJ's around. 

 

Apple Jack - If you don't know where she gets her money from, your not paying attention. She is the second richest of the ponies. Apple Jack is basically Loaded. Farmers and Ranchers are usually very rich people with deep DEPP pockets. They are the Donald Trumps of the blue collar world....well...them and fisherman that fish out in super dangerous areas for high end product like crabs and stuff. But sub zero temperatures with frozen tidal waves crashing into you constantly with near hurricane force winds hitting you at the same time for something like 72-100 straight hours or whatever with constant labor that puts all other hard labor to shame with no sleep, food, or rest BETTER put some darn money in your hooves. I mean REALLY! Anything less than 80k per person is a no deal lol.

 

Rarity - Dress maker, probably does other clothing and occasional colt commissions as well.

 

Twilight Sparkle - Finally we come to the pony whom this topic is all about! 

 

She is a princess, she is the ruler of the land. Therefor she gets all the tax money. 10-15% or more of all the ponies total earned income including her friends from all of equestria and ponyville belongs to her. She is by far the richest character of the main cast and her pockets are completely limitless. The only other characters richer than her are the older princesses with Celestia at the top!

Kudos for not saying she's a pastry chef. We've never actually seen her doing any real work for the Cakes' business aside from manning the register (and making baked bads, which is probably why she doesn't bake for them).
