Discussion: Nuclear Family OCs

I'm not sure where this belongs but I feel this is worth a mention.

As some of you may have noticed in my RP's, I have an OC family consisting of a white-collar working dad, a stay-at-home mom who works part time and their two children. By definition, this is a nuclear family (father/mother/sister/brother). Why exactly is this kind of upbringing rare for OC's? We've all seen OC's who've come from abusive families or were raised in orphanages. I ask that because there are a lot of strong nuclear family bonds in the show.

Rarity has pretty much the strongest example of a nuclear family. Despite having moved out, she has parents who are still married along with a younger sister. Pinkie Pie was also raised by her parents and currently lives with Mr. and Mrs. Cake who have twin foals. Twilight's parents have also been seen but her brother has the most spotlight of her family members if you don't count Spike.

The only major exception to this is the Apples with the immediate family consisting of three siblings and their grandmother. Nevertheless, Big Macintosh and Applejack are already grown with Apple Bloom still a child so it's as if her siblings are raising her. As far as I'm concerned, divorce hasn't been a subject that the show has touched. We only see Diamond Tiara's father but it's hinted that her mother is still around. Whether or not she's raising Diamond with Filthy Rich is up for debate. It's also shown that Scootaloo lives in a house but no parents to speak of just yet.

I may be biased because I come from a family where my parents are still married after 35 years and I have three siblings. I don't consider myself normal, though. Is it strange that the family bonds my OC's have resemble the show unlike many others?

, as this topic appears to relate more to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, I'll be moving this thread to Sugarcube Corner. :) Remember, General Discussion is more about discussion about real-life rather than ponies.

Ahhh, I totally agree with what you are getting to. :)

Perhaps the idea that a Nuclear Family style probably seems less of a means to add dramatic flare to characters. But I agree, there needs to be more Nuclear Family based characters and such.

Simply because melancholy themes tend to be a drag.
