Unicorn with wings - NOT Alicorn

So I had a thought. What would happen if the conditions that were enforced on Fluttershy to make her become FlutterBat was done on a Unicorn, or Earth Pony? Would they acquire wings, or only the thirst for apples with the added bonus of fangs and cool eyes?

 

Would the pony in question gain something else as a result of going Batty? Like an EarthPony with this attribute, would they have instead of Bat Wings might grow claws, or the ability to shape shift? Would a unicorn that was turns have dark powers? Would they gain an edge in hypnotism? 

 

These are all interesting ideas... I want one that makes sense.

This is actually an interesting topic to think about, it never came to mind for me.

 

Due to the different types of pony body structures, I'd assume each would transform differently.

 

Earth ponies need strong, a tad bit naturally heavier body. Y'know, to do their earth-ly pony duties I'd assume, and to even keep them walking around a lot, so their bodies ain't built for wings. Maybe they could have increased jumping abilities, or gain more nimbleness in their legs? Maybe an increased sense of smell, and more powerful jaws for more grounded foods? I'm not sure.  

 

Maybe unicorns could  have the dark magic as you said, that could strictly be used to hide or fruit hunt, or increased magic ability if they already specialized in picking up things magically. More of a range, to gain more fruit, or detect it through something in their horns. I'd also think their depth perception would increase. Not their sight directly though, but at least an increase of that sense at night, based off real bat senses.

I'm of the "not much" ideal.

I don't think Unicorns or Earth ponies would sprout wings. I think they'd gain vampire-like abilities of their own.

Illusion magic for the Unicorns, to silence their approach, and hide in plain sight by becoming cloaked. Or perhaps control magic, as if to make their victims into thralls.

Speed and strength for Earthponies, further developing their natural talents, honing them into lethal hunters.

That's what I think.

I do think that the other races would gain wings if they became bat ponies. I know this isn't the best example, but when the mane six transformed into Breezies, all of them got wings. Obviously the circumstances were different, but it is notable that Rarity received wings despite being a unicorn, and that therefore she technically had both magic and flight while in that state. Just as wings are a defining characteristic of Breezies, I believe that they are also a defining characteristic of bat ponies.

 

My reasoning clearly isn't completely valid, but yeah, I do think that a pony that transformed into a bat pony would have wings regardless of its original race.

I posted in your newer thread about this, but just going to let you know here too. I've derived a pretty close to canon way a Uni can fly, and it doesn't need Flutterbat-like stuff.
