Name at least one thing that frightens you about the future

What is it that you fear may happen in your lifetime? Perhaps a nuclear war? Perhaps another 9/11-level terrorist attack? Perhaps a Black Death-like outbreak that wipes out a significant part of your country's population? Hell, perhaps even a zombie apocalypse?

Everyone must have some fear, right?

It sounds silly, but I have always been a little anxious about this so-called "end of the world" that the news has been raving about more than usual lately. Not anxious in a good way. Although it isn't likely for a sudden mass of destruction to suddenly rain down on Earth, but what if it did? Could the world end you know, after I'm gone?

/shrug.

Aside from that, I'm afraid of spiders and heights. NOOOPE

The clothing styles are awful.

That could KILL Rarity.

Also, the idea that gaming could one day die out... Hopefully not until long after I'm dead, if ever.

Sjws. Lunatics willing to preach hate and censor anything that disagrees with them, their magickal beliefs, or their bubbles. Their idiotic bubbles, in which they believe they are the speshulest snowflake of all and all things deserve justice... And this somehow translates into an irrational hatred of all ciswhitemen and the NEED for unfair quotas to be forced onto every level of the soft cushy high-paying office jobs regardless of skill.

The Death Star. The petition to the White House to construct a Death Star may have been unsuccessful, but it's only a matter of time before Sith Lord Obama and Emperor That-Pope-That-Totally-Looks-Like-Palpatine make one for real

A little bit closer to home, but I suppose I'm frightened of my immediate future, if I can make my chosen career into something stable and successful. There's a lot to think about; do I really have the mentality for it? Am I up to the challenges that will arise? Do I have a backup for if things fall through? The future is a scary thing to imagine sometimes... and knowing that events may occur beyond your control. I guess we just don't want to feel helpless and left at the mercy of fate.

Well, the weather's been a little bit crazy lately. A few years ago where I live, we broke the overall record low and high in the very same year. We shattered the overall record low, I should add. And then the temperatures jumped up a span of one hundred degrees in that week to over 80 (which it should never even remotely be reaching in winter).

But right, right... Everything is fine. Most likely will never become much of anything during my lifetime, but I'm not saying that it doesn't matter.

My fear of the future already came true.

It's 2015 and we still don't have any flying cars.

Just for the record I think global warm/ climate change is the last thing anyone needs to worry about, back in the 70's scientists said that we would be living in a perpetual ice age by now and you can see how that turned out. The climate changes on its own all the time and there are much larger forces at play then the exhaust from my SUV such as volcanic eruptions and solar flares.

Guess I'd better throw mine in:

I'm legitimately terrified that transhumanism will become a reality in my lifetime. If it ever happens, I believe that will be the point when we will have truly lost all notion of ethics in scientific research. For all the claims of it being "human enhancement", I believe that it will only make us less than human.

Other than slowly wasting away due to aging, nothing really bothers me about the future.  The worlds a mess but it has always been that way and it seems to be getting better with time.

My biggest fear is being stuck where I am for for another six years. It's a long story, but let's just say that I'm working on getting out of my horrible rut!

- Losing personal freedoms and human rights due to  governments potentially getting more power by lying to us

- World War III

- Depopulation/Population Control

- Not having any will to stand up for what I think is right and instead being brainwashed and easily scared. I for one hope to develop that will in the future.

- Some famous conspiracy theories turning out to be true

- Economic collapse

That one moment between life and death.... Where your not alive, but not quite dead.. That's what frightens me.

I believe you're referring to that place between light and shadow that lies between the pit of man's fears and summit of his knowledge.  A dimension of sight.  A dimension of sound.  A dimension of mind.  A place we call....The Twilight Zone.

In all seriousness, though, I believe that any number of distaster or apocalypse movies could happen within my lifetime.  Namely, The Road, The Book of Eli, The Day After Tomorrow, or 28 Days Later/I Am Legend (basically any zombie apocalypse.)

But what scares me the most is just that I will fail at life, never be happy, die alone, etc.  Basically, what scares me about the future is:

EVERYTHING.
