Here's a question that needs asking

What IS Applejack's special talent?

Personally I've always thought it was the ability to kick a tree and have all the apples fall neatly into buckets, but that doesn't have anything to do with how she got her cutie mark or anything, and overall it's just really ambiguous. So what do you all think is her super special talent?

Uhh... that doesn't answer anything.

Also I find that guy really presumptuous.

If you watch the video, listen to what he says, and try to understand his meaning you'll find it does. At least you should be able to.

Also, 'presumptuous'? What does that even have to do with the subject? You said that in far less time than it would have taken to view even a considerable portion of the video.

Her talents include playing rodeo and being a hard-working Apple Farmer at Sweet Apple Acres. She works hard enough to provide apples to Ponyville.

Well yeah, she's also the best baker in town, the best herder, tied for best athlete, etc. etc.

But I'm asking about her super special talent which every pony has.

Why don't you just sum it up yourself? Why ask us to watch your video for you?

And I've seen some of his stuff before and I find it really presumptuous.

Obviously the reason I sent the link in the first place is because I believe he gives a thorough explanation that can answer your question more easily than I can. The emphasis is on your question and I only suggested it, I didn't ask you to do anything. And writing someone off just because you find a personal flaw in their presentation seems pretty trivial and judgmental to me; your dismissive approach is equally presumptuous.

I asked a simple question and I'm getting three posts and counting with absolutely no content. If you're going to fill my thread with these posts I'll just report you.

I'm with Roughshod on this. That video is the best explanation of Applejack's overall character that I have seen. I admit that guy can be more than a little course at times but that AJ analysis vid is probably his best work.

@@Dulset Tarn, I provide you a link, try to explain it's merits and then you arrogantly dismiss it as well as threaten to report me for disagreeing with you? Very mature.

The facts below are all elicited as aspects of Applejack's special talent in the video link I provided. The analysis is a long one but it's also one of the most thorough I've come across. Say what you will about the youtuber's personality, it doesn't change the level of detail he puts into his work.

What's wrong with being an apple farmer? Is that not a talent in and of itself?

I've always thought that AJ cutie mark didn't represent a talent so much as it represents who she is as a character.  In fact, the meaning is twofold.  Firstly, three apple could easily mean that she's an apple farmer (no duh).  Secondly, it represents her love and devotion to her familly.  in "the cutie mark chronicles" AJ didn't get her mark from bucking apple trees or really doing anything apple related.  Instead, she got it when she realized how much her familly had meant to her and returning back to them after having run away from home. Her familly is called the Apples after all.  Three apples could easily represent that.

Personally, I always took her cutie mark to represent her loyalty to her family and her unrelenting dedication to her work. It's not an actual phisical skill.

So now you're just repeating what other people have said. Please stop making meaningless posts or I'll report you. You could have just brohoofed them if you agreed with them.

That is precisely why I'm asking about her talent and not her cutie mark.

They're directly connected! If you understood this you would see why the video answers your question in the first place!

@@Dulset Tarn,

Excuse me? You just quoted me yourself there pal. I was using their statements to corroborate my point, it's not like I'm obligated to brohoof every post I see. Are you getting bitter?

Applejack's special talent is manifold, it involves not only her occupation as a farmer but also the connection she shares with her family on the farm and her dedication to both.

OK I finally managed to watch the video.  I hate YouTube & long for The Good Old Days when "buffering speed" was found only in aspirin commercials & referred to how fast Bufferin got into your blood stream.

He makes a good point about AJ's cutie mark being about her family.  I've always considered it about her farm, but IMO they are sort of blurred together in her mind.  Others can buck trees (though she is better).  I think her talent is running the farm, although it's hard to pin down exactly what that means.

As to Horseshoe Analysis being boastful, I go w Dizzy Dean's quote "It's not bragging if you can really do it"

This is one of the best explanations I've come across so far:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWm072ccqyw#t=786

The channel is monetized which means the ads can mess up the timed URL link, but the part about her cutie mark and talent is at 13:05.

I love horseshoes. He makes great reviews and analysis and is one of the funniest guys in the fandom.

Anyway, it's summed up nicely here. :)

Dulset's question makes me think of this comic

1tzL6Ga.jpg

I figure the ponies have their own dispositions and overall character traits that would shine through no matter what profession they held. Talents are versatile like that. To master any specific job, when you think about it, requires a whole subset of transferable skills.

I know MMC contradicts this. In that episode, Twilight's friends all ended up miserable because they weren't on track with their original destinies. I want to hand-wave that a little bit though. For one, it was the product of an incomplete spell, and besides, we already know Discord could invert their personalities with magic .. so I'm gonna chalk it up to that.

My point is that in other episodes we see the mane 6 doing things that aren't their specific profession, but relate to their skill set. In Super Speedy Cider Squeezy, Twilight gets Rainbow to help press because she's athletic, and Rarity to do quality control because she can spot defects quickly, as in Look Before You Sleep, when she knows where the tree will fall when AJ's pulling it down. They all have various roles in Mare do Well, Fluttershy shows promise as a social worker when she reforms Discord, etc.

So I think the metaphysics of cutie marks is debatable. Maybe they have a kind of destiny, but I want to believe it's not something set in stone, moment by moment. I think it's more of a thematic, abstract destiny. Like, if you imagine Rainbow Dash's destiny is to revolutionize flying, it could be done in a few ways. In canon, she does the sonic rainboom, but perhaps in another possible universe, her silk bodysuit helps another flyer gain the speed needed to do the same thing. You know, like how a race car or a fighter plane needs more than the driver/pilot, it also needs all the skills of the engineers that went into making those things.

Anyway, I think I've talked enough. You get the idea.
