Cats are everywhere on the web whether it be witty memes or silly videos, people on the internet can't seem to get enough of these playful felines. But what is it that makes cats so popular on the internet? Is it cutness? Humor? Entertainment?

Some people say the internet was created for cat videos, pictures, and memes. in quantum physics, Shrodinger had an imaginary cat and formed a theory (Search: Shrodinger's Cat). If it wasn't for this theory and experiment, we may not have an internet. Thus, this is why some people believe the internet was make for cat videos, memes, and pictures.

For starters, cats are our second most popular pet. Dog videos are quite famous in their own right and probably rival cat vids in views.  And I live with three cats so I can attest to how wonderful, funny, and unpredictable they are.  Grumpy Cat for President 2016!  :3

I think it's just co-incidence that a few cat-related things became popular on the Internet around 10 to 15 years ago, and they've spawned others. Things like Bonsai Kittens, LOLCats/Cheezburger, the Kitty Cat dance, keyboard cat, etc.

 

It could just as easily have happened to hamsters.

As much as I enjoy cat pics, they're basically click bait - everyone can relate to them equally and everyone gets a quick sense of 'd'aww', so they've got the best chance of getting passed around. The internet wouldn't be the same without them
