Does Discord's "Reformation" make it difficult to bring back old enemies?

It seems with every new season, a brand new enemy is introduce, and while it's not a bad thing, it generally leaves a lot of unanswered question. Let's take Chrysalis for example, we know next to nothing about the Changling's culture and the little we do know is based off of head-cannons and speculations. What about King Sombra? Two villains with so much potential as well as the means and motives to return, however with Discord now reformed, this could be a problem for the writers because how could they bring these villains back without Discord being involved in some way?

Now of-course they could just leave Discord out of the episode, but what reason could they have for Discord not appearing? Also this option would disappoint fans, that has wanted Discord to interact with Chrissy or Sombra or even NightMare Moon. The problem though is I can't think of a scenario where Discord could be involved were he would not become "Overpowered" against the other villains. The only reason he was able to interact with Tirek was because Tirek had the potential to become stronger than Discord, where as villains such as NMM or Queen Chrysalis would not be able to overpower him nor manipulate him as Tirek did.

This make me believe that from now on we are only going to see, new bad guys that have reappeared after a thousand years, that are strong enough to stand up to Discord, thus adding another villain to the roster of bad guys who's potential and character development is wasted, as well as any world building.

I don't know, hopefully I'm wrong because I want to see the old villains like NMM or Sombra make a return in some way.

NMM could presumably boost herself via the moon and/or the Dream Realm, Chrysalis could boost herself via excess love, Sombra could presumably boost himself via excess hatred/fear and/or weaken Discord with those magic-proof crystals that trapped Shining and Twilight, etc.

What reason did they have not to bring the Elements to the Crystal Empire? It wouldn't be any more conspicuous for Discord to not stave off any baddie that shows up.

Though if you want a headcanon answer, maybe it's like the Genie from Aladdin. Once he was freed, his powers took a hit, and he was no match for a real, bound genie. It wouldn't be a stretch for Discord's powers to weaken once he starts acting toward the forces of harmony. That could even make a great episode, where he has to choose between his omnipotence and his friends.

I assume the reason they didn't bring the elements to the empire was because they needed a more permenant solution to protect the empire. They couldn't just live there forever with the elements to keep sombra at bay. My headcannon also says that Celestia and Luna used the elements when they initially banished sombra, so if they attempted to use them again, it would have the same result, he would curse the empire and it would disappear for another 1000 years.

It was implied they couldn't just banish Sombra again because he'd just teleport the Empire away again.

They could have implied that, but they didn't.

I mean by the same token, what reason is there for Discord not to show up in every episode? He's Discord, is it really believable for him to just sit around in the background until he's summoned? He should be in the mane 6's face literally all the time.

I'm not really seeing a connection between Discord being reformed and the writers bringing back old villains. Unless you mean to say that Discord would likely be needed to bring back the dead villains since he would be the only one with such power since he's omnipotent, but wouldn't do it cause he's good now.

If you mean why would he not appear when bad things happen, he appears whenever he wants. He really doesn't need a reason to show up somewhere. He just does.

Difference here though is they didn't know who they were up against and just how much control Sombra had. For all we know, had Twilight and the others used the elements to banish Sombra, there could have been a trap set up that would have caused the castle to disappear again like it did the first time he was banished. Also while I agree that would make a interesting episode I'm doubtful Discord would become weak enough for the other villains to defeat him, and we have seen no negative side effects of his reformation as of yet.

I think he's asking how any villain could possibly pose a threat when Discord is around.

That's really not an excuse in the slightest. Actually, Celestia never even told Twilight that Sombre miiiiight just be back if I recall correctly.

I mean he would be to powerful for them to return, Discord could literally defeat NMM,Chrissy or Sombra solo with no help from the Mane 6 and this would make episode short. Also I'm doubtful they would bother returning as long as Discord's free. Maybe if they all teamed up and went after Discord first, they may catch him off guard but without some way to contain him that victory would be short lived.

You're right, all she does is give twilight a history lesson about the empire and that she needs to find a way to protect it, she never specifies what it needs protection from. Shining Armor is the first one to suggest that Sombra returned with the empire.

How is it not a excuse? We already seen the effects of banishing Sombra the first time, how can we be certain banishing him again wouldn't have had the same effect? Also the episode was meant to be a Twilight/Spike episode so this was meant to be a problem for Twilight to solve alone.

Yeah, I'm not sure to understand either.

Maybe we will have something like this:

A very powerful villain has just appeared!

Twilight Sparkle: Don't worry! Discord is here to help us!

..........................

Wait, where is he?

Fluttershy: (sad) I believe he's having a tea party with Celestia.

Twilight Sparkle: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
