Wolven Empire
Capital building

Two wolves sat across from one another, a heavy marble desk separating the two. One was an alpha male greywolf, the other a female winged wolf. Each had a small stack of papers before them, the two looking over the reports with saddened and discouraged eyes. Seth Eclipse and Iris Wind were both out of their comfort zones when it came to what they had been discussing for the past day. The nation was suffering, and there was little that could be done. The blizzard snow wasn't a true issue, but the ruined fields were. They barely had enough to feed their people. Now, the threat was really on the board. Every branch of the lower government had proposed their ideas for a temporary solution, but all were rather hopeless in the long run of life. Now, there left only two options. Either stave out their people, or open the possibility to international contacts.

The idea of something so bold as to even approach another nation for help was unthinkable. However... after much debate, the two had come down their pick as to whom they would open contact to. There was a nation by the name of Volund not far from the empire's boarders. They too lived in polar climates, but that could work to the wolves' advantage. They would understand their desire for food. The wolves could offer some of their possessions and knowledge, but they had little else. That's why Seth was chosen for this mission. He had much diplomatic experience with the Equine race, and this country should hold to be in the same line of people. As he left the Empress's office, he met with a small garrison of troops as for escort across the tundra. The gurney would take days, but they were more tan ready for the long haul though the winter lands.

"Supreme Leader, a mine was attacked last night on the border of the Great Forest. Reports are flowing in of a small number of ponies were the culprits. Casualties are high."

Defiant Shadow looked at his charts and maps laid out on the table in front of him. Rebels have been a nuisance the last few days, and the mines were important to their industries. This rebel problem needs to be taken care of.... "Send some spies into their ranks. Some changlings will do. Station some troops on each of the mines bordering the forest. We need those mines in operation," ordered Defiant to his orderlies.

"Yes Supreme Leader," they all say in unison as the orderlies shuffle out of the room.

All this time spent on controlling the people of this land, and they rebel against me. My father has saved them from the brutal monarchs before him. I have brought this land to modernity. And this is how they repay ME.

Volund

The Grand Hall

King Gunnar was sitting upon his throne and was reviewing some reports from his raiders. Luck had been with them as the light raids had yielded enough food to support the growing nation. He yearned to be out and aiding his people, but he knew the best place for him was here at home where he could manage the raiders and make sure they attacked appropriate targets and were not ambushed. To help ensure that ambushes were minimumm, King Gunnar had set up a small scout network that relayed information on some troop movements near the borders of Volund.

King Gunnar was just debating where to strike next when the main doors to the grand hall were opened. Gunnar looked up and saw a pegasus scout, striding toward his king and then kneeling before him. "Oberjarl, I come with news of wolf movements near our borders." He said.

"Rise, shieldbrother. You must be more clear, are they regular wolves or are the dire wolves forming?" Gunnar asked, rising and walking over to his scout to speak with him.

"From what I've seen they were emissaries from the Wolven Empire, high king." The scout said as he rose and looked his king in the eyes.

"Hmmm... Grab some food and some cider, you've done well, shieldbrother." Gunnar said, nodding at the scout and then smiling.

"Thank you, oberjarl." The scout said, smiling back at his king and taking a seat by one of the tables in the grand hall, feasting on the spoils of the raiders.

"I wonder what they could want...." Gunnar said to himself. He then turned to one of his housecarls, a female unicorn. "Go and gather some of the guardsponies and escort this... procession to me." Gunnar then turned back to the scout. "Scout, would you be willing to show my housecarl here the way?"

The scout wiped his mouth and nodded, with a full mouth he said. "Itsh would been mine honor!" He said as he sprang up to his hooves and looked at the unicorn.

"It shall be done, Oberjarl." The unicorn said, saluting her king and then heading out to gather some guardsponies. The scout followed behind and the two began talking.

Gunnar moved back to his throne and sat down to review some of the raider reports.

With the wolves speed, the pack managed to cross the tundra in a mater of only a few days. After spotting a retreating scout, Seth knew they were close. When they were a half-day's travel out, he called his brethren to a halt. They made a small camp, lighting a fire and cooking their last meal in the run. Calling his officers alone, they sat outside the camp to talk.

"You wished to talk about our mission?" Tiber, the second in command asked. He was a white beta male. "It's obvious it's not war, and we are too obvious for an infiltration. What are we doing here?"

Seth looked to Tiber, then to Tia. The second beta was a light grey female. She looked to her comrade, then to Seth. "You are a diplomat, Seth. It's obvious. Question is, why? Why run to one of the pony homelands for talk?"

Seth looked away, his face stern, but concerned. "I wished to talk to you two alone to keep the rest of the escort in line while I am away. What we are about to do is something I wished I would never see. Just... whatever happens, stay loyal with the pack, not to your thoughts. The survival of our kind depends on this." He stated, beginning to walk back to the main camp. He was stopped by Tia.

"What is it? What are we asking?"

"Unless we can arrange a deal... the Wolven Empire will starve." Seth admitted.

Tiber growled, advancing on the alpha. "We are wolves! We are the alpha predator! We do not.. beg! We kill for what's ours!"

"And look where our bloodthirsty ways have gotten us." Seth retorted, shoving his brother back. "We are dying! Our numbers are low already! The wars have costed us the lives of our people... why? Because we were bloodthirsty! But..." He began, knowing his fellow wolves would only respond to it. "If I do fail... the empress has agreed to begin an invasion for survival. She will lead our brother to take what we require..." The wolf finished, getting approving nods from his seconds. In the distance, he noticed pegasi approaching from the direction of county they were headed to. They were right on time.

The scout and Gunnar's housecarl Shayla had made good time as they spotted the wolven envoy from afar. "There they are, Housecarl." The scout said as the rest of the unit caught up. There were three pegasi, four earth ponies, and one other unicorn, that was excluding the scout and Shayla.

"What is our plan, Housecarl?" The scout asked.

"We will approach them, but we shouldn't throw out caution." Shayla said, she turned to the troop and barked a few orders. Two of the pegasi took off into the clouds above, taking cover and hiding above. Two of the earth ponies and the unicorn went ahead and hid in the snow, the unicorn provided a small snow flurry which added to the camoflauge. Shayla had explicitly ordered that none of them were to act unless she gave a very specific signal.

Shayla looked at the scout, the other remaining pegasus, and the other two earth ponies who were all clad in armor. "Let us meet them then. Remember, you lot keep looking tough, even though I know you all are milkdrinkers." The group chuckled and Shayla smirked before getting serious again. "Let me do the talking. If any of you jump then I'll thrash your hides myself. Understood?"

"Yes, housecarl!" The group replied.

"Thats what I like to hear, boys. Now follow me!" Shayla said as she turned, her dire wolf cloak flowing behind her as she went to meet the Wolven Envoy.

Returning to his brothers, Seth kept an eye out for the ponies in the sky. However, they seemed to be taking cover among the clouds. With the rest of the wolves looking to the group of ponies advancing on their camp, the alpha began to walk between them and his men. With a stirn face, he stood before the advancing ponies.

With his betas at his sides, Seth noticed the female pony was wearing a wolf skin. His eyes narrowed as his gaze drifted over the rest of the incoming ponies. There were not much on the in numbers... But the pegasi were hiding. That meant they were holding back on something.

When the advacing ponies got in ear range, the wolf gave a bark. "Equines. It's an honor." Seth called out.

Shayla eyed the group and smirked inwardly. She had seen what she guessed to be the leader, assessing their numbers and found them small. Her face showed no sign of fear or worry though. She was a bit surprised at the greeting. "The honor is ours. What brings you to Oberjarl Gunnar's lands, Ambassador of the Wolven Empire?" Shayla asked, getting straight to the point.

She wondered if any of the wolves here were related to the dire wolves that her nation was at war with. These wolves seemed different from the bloodthirsty dire wolf savages she had fought, but she could be wrong. Either way she wouldn't hide her cloak, it was a symbol of pride and honor for her people. She wouldn't remove it even if it did antagonize these wolves. Again she smirked inwardly at the thought of adding a few more wolf pelts to her collection of cloaks and trophies.

Shayla drew her soldiers to a halt about 25 feet away from Seth, not wishing to draw any closer in case these Wolves did decide to attack. She waited for an answer.

-----------------------------------------------------

A small air longship glided towards the borders of Konyushnia. Volund raiders were preparing to do what they had to do to secure the future of their nation. The lesser jarl that was leading this raid was named Brandr, a young earth pony seeking to make a name for himself to the oberjarl. If this raid were successful enough he might even move up in recognition and respect, but first he had to succeed in this light raid.

A small village was seen ahead and the air longship was settled down behind the cover of some trees. Six ponies were left to guard the air longship. Twenty-three desperate and experienced warrior ponies set off to raid the Konyushnia village. They approached the borders of this small settlement.

Clashes of swords and gunpowder explosions race throughout the countryside as another mine is attacked in the night. A lone changling prepares to infiltrate the ranks of the retreating rebels. This changling decided to become one of the miners killed in a previous attack so he wouldn't be recognized. He watched as rebels fell to the might of the well armed defenses. though some success was reached on the rebels side, the overall victory belonged to the defense. as the stragglers retreated, the changling joined up with them and ran.

The other rebels were too tired to even question who the new pony that joined them. They just kept walking into the darkness, going back to base for rest and a new plan. When they all neared, the changling looked in awe of the base the rebels have constructed among the trees. The massive gate opened to welcome the rebels back home and the changling walked in beside them. As the gate closed, he felt confident that his infiltration was coming along nicely. Then all of the sudden a group of ponies approached him with weapons drawn. The changling watched in horror as the ponies rounded him up and escorted him away....

----------------------------------------------------------

The next morning, a changling corpse was spotted outside the forest hanging from a branch. A note hung from the corpse. The note was delivered to Defiant Shadow to read in pony. "What rebel filth is deemed important for me to read myself?" Shadow questioned his orderly as it was presented before him. He read it after about 30 seconds and his horn began to glow. The paper crumbled and burst into flame as Shadow looked at his orderly. "There seems to be a strong unicorn presence in the rebel cause, I want all intel we have on every unicorn in the country looked at for any misdeeds. Any unicorn with even one law broken must be brought in and questioned. Even if its your family..." Defiant Shadow ordered his shivering unicorn orderly as he stuttered "Y-Y-Y-Y-es S-S-S-S-S-Supreme Leader!"

The Griffon Kingdom

Talon, Imperial Meeting Hall

IronClaw looked over a map and a small stack of reports judging his options. Nearby two Zebra envoys stand nervous waiting for the Emperor's response.

"I'll bring in the National Army. However do not expect help like this again" The two Zebras sighed in relief.

Once more war broke out in the nation's southwest as Griffon armies set out to eradicate the last Zebra Baron. Zebra Baron Bright Eyes' castle had been under heavy siege for weeks and everyone knew his reign's days were numbered. It was a miracle the Baron's soldiers haven't starved to death let alone feed the refugees within the castle walls.

This fight had been on and off for decades. Many proxy wars have been fought over the lands of the only Zebra to hold title in the Griffon Kingdom. The local barons had a deep rooted hate for all Zebrakind and went about destroying it. But each time they tried a local Count or Lord would step in to end the fight in the name of peace.

This time was different though. No one had raised to stop the soon-to-be genocide and enslavement of the Zebras in the southwest. The Emperor, now forced to raise his claw, mobilizes the National Army to bring order back to the area and put the local leaders into line.

National Army Outpost No. 12, Southwest Griffon Kingdom

"Message, sir. We have orders to defend Baron Bright Eyes' and his lands from local militants"

"Just us?" The Major asked.

"No, sir. More are on the way but we've been told to move now"

"Fine... Raise the men and prep the Sky Turtle. We move at 15:00 hours"

"Yes, sir"

...

To the far west lays Lookout Point, a small city situated on the coast. There lies a tiny Griffon fleet and one of the few sea trade hubs in the nation.

Icebreaker ships had just pushed through the surprisingly thin ice layer in the harbor and Captain FairDay LongClaw was ready to test her crew's mettle out in open seas. She had the ship, the Fascination, filled with a week's worth of supplies and set out into the ocean ahead of them.

Within hours a huge gale hit rocking the Fascination side to side and threatening to sink her. The winds ripped away the sails and gave her to the mercy of the waves. The crew prayed to the gods of the sea to no avail as the few supplies they had began to run dry. Surely they would be lost at sea.

They awoke one morning to find themselves shipwrecked on a large, thick ice sheet. After examining their maps they soon discovered they had crossed the ocean in the storm somehow and were now in an area barely charted by Griffons. With no choice but to move west lest running out of food they loaded up with the few supplies, a revolver rifle, and a compass. They soon trekked west into the cold and snow not knowing what lay ahead.

Sunflower Valley, West of the Capital, Konyushniya.

Princess Horizon let out a long-awaited sigh as she entered her bedchambers. It had been a long, tiring day in the capital, and she was happy to finally return home, away from all the hustle and bustle. Staring out the window, she admired the aurora that danced in the sky.

"These ponies will need all the help they can get come winter," Horizon said, thinking of the thousands of ponies without beds to sleep on.

"I wish the nobles would see how much of a priority this is!" She talled her hoof, annoyed.

"Then again..." The princess wandered away from the window.

"I guess I really don't need their permission, do I?" She pondered it for a moment. She didnt want to get on the nobles' bad side, but it seemed to be the only option. Trotting silently, she made he way over to her elegant bed. She was still getting used to being princess, and even though she refused refuge in the palace, she still felt as though she was living large.

"We need to establish some new trade deals," she said sleepily. "Then we might have a better chance...assuming anypony still trusts us."

Finally tucking herself into bed, the princess drifted into a light slumber, dreaming of a day when her land would finally be at peace.

Commonwealth Assembly Building, Mustang City, Impalarana

It was a historic day in Impalarana, and the Metropolitan Assembly chamber certainly looked the part. Delegates from every part of the country's government, the country's President-General, members of the print media, and even members of the general public were present for this historic occasion. The Commonwealth Assembly was about to make a historic vote: confirmation of the Premier.

Siting on the left side of the chamber in the front row was Bright Idea, an alicorn pony who had been through a lot in the previous few weeks. Her relatively young third-string party, the Unity and Cooperation Party, won an overall majority in the country's 39th general election, defeating both the Impalan Development Party and the National Alliance, the latter of which had formed the government for more than a century. Not only was the result historic, but Bright Idea was set to become the first alicorn to be elected as the leader of a country.

Five minutes later, as voting closed, the Speaker confirmed the result of the vote: Bright Idea was elected Premier, receiving 54 of 80 votes. Cheering erupted in the chamber as Bright Idea rose to take the oath of office. She went to the podium and recited the oath, after which she was invited to make a speech. Her aides had insisted on writing a speech for her, but she decided to wing it.

"Thank you everyone, not only those who supported me through every up and down of the campaign, but also those who took part in our city-state's democratic process by voting and getting involved. It was through your votes that you expressed your desire for a change in government, a change in policy, and a change in leadership.

"Before I discuss the new agenda the UCP will lay out in government, let me tell you a bit about myself. You see, this election is a bit personal for me, because of an event from when I was younger..."

Borders of Konyushnia

Raiders....

The twenty-three ponies attacked the undefended border town. Some of the inhabitants had fought back, but the majority were subdued. Those that did fight were summarily killed by the experienced Volund raiders. They made off with a rather large amount of food and water and set several of the village's buildings on fire. 20% of the survivors of the raid were taken as slaves. The rest of the population was released as the raiders left in their air longship for Volund.

Attack on Konyushnia:

Konyushnian Small Village, Undefended

Raiders: Suffering from very light injuries, barely scratches.

Villagers: 10% resisted and killed, 20% taken as slaves, 70% survived

Village: Sacked, 45% of village burned to the ground.

Very small food resource gain for Volund, Very small food resource loss for Konyushnia.

National Army Field HQ

The Field Colonel looked out over the battlefield from his lookout tower.

"Corporal, report"

"Could be better, sir. 2nd Battalion is getting held up in the hills by Baron's soldiers, 1st Bridge is halted a half mile from the castle walls, and the 10th Artillery Group is stuck in thee mud"

"Blast... Any breakthroughs with negotiations?"

"No, sir" The Barons' soldiers were fighting harder than expected. Even with better gear and training the enemies numbers outmatched them.

*Thump thump thump

"Sound's like the 10th are in position" The Colonel smiled as he saw a number of enemy positions break up under cannon shelling. "Send in some reserves and get the Sky Turtle over any positions that won't break up.. Oh, and tell the men whoever touches the wall first gets double pay for a month" He couldn't do much from here. Everything was in place and it was far out of his claws.

It was all up to his men and field officers.

Somewhere across the Ocean, East of the Griffon Kingdom

*BLAM* "Food!" Shouted one of the remaining five from the crew of the Fascination.

They had trekked eastward for a few days but those few days were rough. What little food they had ran out and most had frozen to death in their sleep.

Captain FairDay looked down at the fresh kill. "Weird" She began. "I thought wolves kept in packs"

"Who cares! Food!" Shouted the cabin boy, Small.

"Whoe now, Small. We've got to cook it first. Go fetch us some food so we can start cookin' this up"

"Yes, ma'am" He darted off with the most energy he'd had in days.

As she waited for Small to get back with wood FairDay looked over the body of the wolf. Strange... It seemed to be a wolf like back in the Kingdom but it was just... different. She didn't know how but it was... The hunger must be getting to me. With that final thought she pulled out her knife and began to dress the soon-to-be meal.

Perlin, Capital City, Royal office

Two ponies in prussian blue uniform and funny plummed hats enter the office:

"Your Majesty," the two ponies take of their hats to show respect to their monarch, "Our current decision to allow our ships to sail in the eastern sea has led to numerous reports of discoveries of new landmasses."

KIng Ludrick stands up from his wide office chair and looks at a map of the western isle.,

"Excelent, our neighbours have gathered immense wealth from the western lands. We shall have the east." he turns to one of the ponies, "General Flucher, I want three expeditions ready to explore these claims of new lands. Order them to be friendly to the natives... at first"

The Generals bow down and leave the room and the king turns back to the map,

15 River Street, Mustang City, Impalarana

Newly-confirmed Premier Bright Idea opened the doors to her at-the-moment empty new home, 15 River Street. Every Premier going back to the country's founding lived here, and even though the structure of the house has changed over the years, the location remained the same. As for the inside, there were pictures of old Premiers leading back to the country's first, Wispy Hoof. At the end of the hall, she found the Gold Room, where she would be doing much of her work.

Opening the door, the room was totally empty, save for a desk, four chairs, a carpet emblazoned with the national seal, and a modestly-sized picture frame where her official portrait would go when the time came. Off to the right, she spotted a door that led to her private chambers. Inspecting the desk further, Bright Idea found a pen and quill, a small picture frame, and a stack of blank papers, which she presumed were for drafting public orders.

Oh, with the anti-corruption crusade she was going to embark on, she would be drafting a lot of those.

Just as she finished inspecting the room, a member of her security detail appeared in the doorway. "Your Excellency, we've finished bringing in your belongings. Do you want us to furnish the room, or would you rather do it?" the security pony asked.

"You all could furnish the rest of the house, I'll take care of this room and the room adjacent to it." Bright Idea responded. "And please don't address me as 'Your Excellency', 'Ms. Premier' would be fine."

"Very well." The security pony backed away, before a few ponies dressed in suits brought Bright Idea's luggage to the Gold Room. After they left, she used her magic to open the boxes and suitcases.

"Time to get to work."

One of the coastal towns of Volund (Spell it right! XD)

It was early in the morning when the three frigates were spotted on the horizon. An old Icebreaker pony had spotted them as he had set out to break the ice that was encrusting the docks of the village. He immediately went to his son which in turn reported the find to the jarl of the village.

The jarl gathered his small force of 20 odd warriors, not including himself. He was an earth pony and he waited with his warriors on the beach, weapons in hand and prepared for an attack. They were so used to raids from dire wolves that they always treated every new arrival with great suspicion, especially in the number that these intruders were coming in. The jarl knew they were outnumbered, but if this was going to end in a fight, he and his warriors would fight to the last while the rest of the village would escape. Only if it came to bloodshed though.

"Do not attack unless I give the word." The jarl stated to his warriors. He himself was standing in front of them, eyeing the approaching rowboats with suspicion. His grey dire wolf cloak fluttered in the early morning sea breeze.

Zebra Castle of Baron Bright Eyes

Cannons pounded the forces seizing the castle. After a hour the guns stopped. Had they given up? Was it over? Leaders of the baron's attacking the castle peeked out of their holes. No one to be seen. Then, from the hills, came a roar. Gunfire erupted as Griffons of the National Army fired down on the serfs turned soldiers.

In under an hour it was over. The battlefield was full of dead and wreckage, a terrible sight for the soldiers of the National Army.

The castle doors slowly opened as they realized it was over.

All in all 7,000 were killed, mostly zebras from villages and towns which were razed. The once prosperous area was in ruins... but they'd gone though it before. It would take time but soon they would be back on their feet and have a productive land.

...

Imperial Palace

IronClaw looked out over his city. Being Emperor was tough. Everyday his underlings bickered and the nation was a powder keg waiting to blow. But right now it was okay. War in the southwest was over and all in the Kingdom was peaceful for the first time in a long time. With a sigh he put on his coat, went out of the palace, and headed toward the Royal Gardens.

Alone in the snow he looked down on the tombstone only light by moolight. He could only wonder what his mother thought of his job so far. "I've got it, mother. You taught me all I know and I carry it close to my heart. I can keep the kingdom together like you did" He turned and began the long walk back to the palace.

North of the Griffon Kingdom

A small fleet sails in search of the Fascination who seemed to disappear after a rough storm.

"Anything" The Captain asked his observer.

"Nothing, sir... Just ice and water"

"Blast... We've got to find them"

"Sir! I see something... It's... It's a lifeboat!"

"Let me see"

On the ice was an abandoned lifeboat. The sea had taken away any marks that gave its nationality or allegiance but it was good enough for them.

"weigh anchor! Wake the men and prep the landing boats. We've found 'um!"

In hours they'd landed a small force of 100 Griffon soldiers, a number of wagons packed with food, water, and anything needed to survive in the cold. They began to move east inland with hope of finding their lost countrymen and women not knowing their search would be in vain.

@@The Shadow Stallion

Unknowingly, however, they'd landed in Volund, far south of the ship's wreck. They were marching right into the middle of another nation and they had no clue.

It wasn't long after the ship arrived that the tired and hungry passengers were moved into a nearby village by a group of unicorn soldiers.

"We will be taking you to the Starrlight Palace in the capital," the general said, with a rich Konyush accent. The unicorn escorted the fat pony into an elegant carriage, where he was offered food and drink.

"It won't be long now." He said, siting down opposite the assumed captain. "I'm certain the Princess will see you promptly."

The jarl stepped forward and his eyes were narrowed. He inspected the newcomers and their 'gift'. The jarl and some of his warriors had been raiding more then a few times, they knew what was valuable and what could be discarded. The jarl wasn't sure if the gift was meaningful and that these newcomers didn't know that what they carried was barely worth anything, or if this was an insult. The rest of the Volund warriors didn't seem too impressed either.

The jarl walks up to the Lieutenant and looks at him, a little bit down at the lieutenant due to the jarl's height. "Usually when one offers peace, they don't bring their warriors along." The jarl stated bluntly, scowling a bit at the soldiers present. "I am Jarl Kuulthek, one of many under the command of oberjarl Gunnar. You stand on Volund sand and soil. If peace is your intent, then I welcome you to my hall, though I doubt your claims of prosperity. You can keep your gift though, we already have what we need." The jarl said, he bowed his head slightly to the lieutenant to show he didn't mean disrespect.. He still wasn't sure if he was being offered insult by this gift or not. He was also suspicious of these newcomers, he didn't quite trust their 'gifts'.

The jarl turned toward his warriors and spoke. "You heard what these outsiders claim to be here for. For now, show them some Winter hospitality unless they show a different face." The jarl turned back to face the lieutenant. "Follow and we can discuss these.... peacetalks in a more comfortable place." The jarl said as he turned and lead the way to his grand hall.

@Firehearted

A group of hungry dire wolves lay nearby, searching for prey. They had recently been chased off by a group of Volund hunters and ironically their course intercepted with that of the rescue party searching for their lost comrades.

Not far behind this pack of dire wolves, the same Volund hunters that had chased them off, now tracked them. They wished to finish the job that they had started. They knew dire wolves held a grudge and if this pack were left alive they would return in larger numbers.

@@AmberDust,

The officer enters the throne room and bows down, removing his hat,

"Your majesty, I come on behalf of the Kingdom of Ponssia,"

The door opens again and two of his servants step in with chests and open them to reveal gold, gems silver and other precious objects,

"Please accept these as a token of our friendship and gratitude."

He makes a hand sign and the servents retreat from the room,

"We were sent eastwards in order to discover new lands, trading partners or possible friends."

@@The Shadow Stallion, (Your 'mentions' dont seem to work =p)

"Very well then", he makes a hand signal and the two soldiers saluting by him pick the chest up and start moving it towards a boat.

"But in order for one to make sure one is met in peace, one has to prepare for war... and also the lads didnt move much on the ship"

He turns towards the seargent, the seargent nods,

"Company and..." he orders with a smug on his face.

A drummer starts beating the drum and is joined by a flute, the line of soldiers do a syncronised movement of their guns and hoofs (like a parade) and then stand back in position, with the same serious expression on their face.

"Now seargent, I want them stay put, you come with me." the lieutenant orders. "And bring over that box." he points to a small box by the line.

"Yes sir" he turns to the line, "Company, guard position!"

They follow the jarl to his hall. (where i guess they eat?) At the table he lieutenant tries to be friendly offering the jarl fine Ponssian chocolate and excelent wine in order to make the jarl feel important and respected,

@@The Shadow Stallion,

((Does Volund speak the same language as Equestria?))

As they hit the shore pathfinders had found tracks. Time had wore at it a bit but it was still something to off of and they' had been following it since.

The convoy trudged along the landscape still unaware of their location and the approaching threat. The line of wagons and soldiers shivered in the cold not used to the climate even with the cold Griffon Kingdom being their home.

The absent minded soldier, Firefly, had his rifle slung around his back and was slowly following the convoy. He was a bit large, clumsy, known for getting into messes, sometimes a bit cowardly, but he was good enough for his superiors. He wasn't really that cold... Or at least to him. He wondered if they'd find the crew they were looking for? Probably not...

"Oof!" He fell face first as he walked into a soldier looking out to the convoy sides for scouting.

"Hey! Ya' dolt!" Shouted the scout with a thick Mountain accent. "Watch it will ya'?

"Sorry, sorry"

With a shrug the scout flew over the convoy to check the other side. Whoops... What's that? Firefly looked out at where the scout was just looking. Something looked like it was getting closer...

"H-Hey! You!"

The scout squeaked in annoyance. "What is it?!"

"Do you see that?"

"What?" He checked his binoculars again out where Firefly pointed. "Hey... You're right! It's.... It's wolves!" the convoy was practically a wall for the approaching wolves. The scout dropped his binoculars letting them be caught by the rope they were connected to on his belt.

"Wolves, right!" He shouted bringing the convoy to attention. They were approaching pretty fast. The few who didn't have rifles hopped to the left side of the convoy for cover. The Earth Ponies pulling the wagons were helpless where they were begin strapped to the wagons with it taking a while to get themselves unhooked.

"Fire at will!" Shouted an officer and rifles shots rang out. A few of the wolves dropped but the revolver rifle wasn't the most accurate weapon and the fact half of the group were young rookies who weren't experienced didn't help. Even with the fast firing the combination of missed shots, the wolves' speed, and just bad luck gave the wolves enough time to reach the convoy.

Those on the right side of the convoy flew up to avoid the wolves while others jumped on wagons to keep accuracy. The Earth Ponies were caught where they were with wagons in front and back of them.

One of the wolves looking for what it thought was the least point of resistance flew into one of the Earth Ponies. The pony let out a scream as the wolf bit at his neck. A griffon on his wagon shot the wolf dead just before he himself was knocked from his perch on the wagon by another wolf.

"Medic!" Shouted a soldier next to his dying comrade. The scene repeated itself a few times along the convoy. Once the dust had settled two soldiers were dead and five more injured enough to be sent home. Another two Earth Pony wagon pullers were dead with a few more scratched up pretty bad. The dead and wounded were loaded onto an nearly empty wagon and sent back the ships. The supplies on the wagon were spread across the other wagons and the backs of the soldiers.

As the convoy was getting itself back together a scout saw something else coming from the same direction of the wolves. "Hold!" Shouted the scout who spotted the hunters. Many raised their rifles at them not knowing what to except and with itchy trigger fingers with the loss of some friends and allies occurring just minutes ago.

Horizon's eyes stalled for a moment on the chest full of jewels. A scowl tried to push through behind her calm expression. They come to us in rags and still offer us all they have, she thought. The mare looked to the pony and smiled sympathetically.

"I trust your nation is doing well?" She said, nodding respectfully.

"We'd love to welcome new friends here, if your people are fine with associating with us." There was a twinge of pain in her voice. She tilted her head towards a stained glass window portraying an expanse of past battles.

"You would be our first ally since the revolution," she added.

(Think of it viking hall. Basically home of the Jarl. Eat, sleep, drink, celebratory occassions, throne room. Pretty much serves all purposes for the Jarl lol. Very big hall. They do speak equestrian, but it is a bit accented.)

The jarl was somewhat impressed by the discipline of the Ponssians and his eye didn't miss the strange weapons that they carried. The jarl lead the lieutenant to the grand hall where he had some slaves bring food and drink. When the jarl was offered some Ponssian goods the jarl respectfully declined. He still didn't trust the Ponssians. "I... have a weak stomach when it comes to some foreign food. Also, what can replace good Volund Ale?" The jarl asked with a hearty laugh as he offered a large mug to the Lieutenant. This was actually a test for the Lieutenant. The jarl wanted to see how strong this lieutenant sharp was.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Dire wolf hunters arrived at the scene moments later. They saw foreigners on their land and from the looks of it they had just been attacked. The Dire Wolf hunters were rather large ponies and one of them stepped forward, a female pegasus. "Seems our prey found prey." She said aloud. She took off her helmet and her blonde mane came free from it. It was braided in several spots. "What are you doing in the lands of Volund?" She asked the group, unafraid of the weapons they were aiming at her and her fellow hunters.
