Will there ever be an MLP Forums app?

Just wondering whether there is ever going to be an app for MLPForums. Don't really know the hassle of getting an app onto the market but I'm just wondering if anyone had ever considered it. Me personally might not use it but I know people probably will. Just wondering that's all.

Thunderlane, a mobile app would be a wonderful project, but it would be an extraordinary effort to get completed. It most certainly isn't off the table, but our first focus would be to improve upon the awful IPB mobile skin. If we had an acceptable mobile user experience, it may mitigate the need for an app.

I'll also move this over to Feedback as well.

Not to be rude, but I'll happen to like the mobile skin

That would be great, if only the app were a dedicated app for MLPForums, and not a universal client like Tapatalk.

GoodReads' app is nice, but needs a lot of improvement for me to consider using in place of accessing the site itself in a browser.

The main concerns, other than Poniverse login, is the functional layout and the skin.

I would love to make one if the opportunity arose. Sadly there are a number of barriers that would make it unlikely in the near future.

Well, I've seen it mentioned multiple times, and basically, it's the half life 3 of mlp forums.

Your question has already been answered but this has been discussed ever since I joined the forum and that was quite a while ago. I'd love to see an app if it is good, but to answer your question I would say no. I don't think there ever will be an app for mlp forums. If, somehow, they manage to get some people to make one I am pretty sure it would suck. I'm not saying the devs are bad, however it takes time and effort to make an app that works great without bugs and lag. I mean even the mobile skin made by IPB themselves is painful to use.

You could always start a fundraiser on the site and ask the staff to pay for an app production from a development company or something.

Really uncomfortable to use the site from the mobile, would highly prefer to have an app. Even makes the site look more official! Which would be freaking great :D

Can this forum use tapatalk though? Wouldn't that be much easier?

No, Feld0 is on record about 10 months ago shooting this down solidly. Have you read Tapatalk's TOS? We would be giving up too much control. I have designed and developed B2B (enterprise level applications available for corporations) mobile apps in my work for years now. When the dev team says the effort is substantial ... it is the truth. :wau:

The better alternative is to eventually move to a design that is naturally more responsive on all device viewport sizes. You don't need an app if the site is usable on a smaller device with most of its functionality and style intact.

Scrap it then. The mobile version of this forum isn't that bad.
