Suggestion Regarding "Today's Birthdays"

Well, one thing that I love to do on these forums is find whoever birthday it is today and go wish them a happy birthday. I have noticed that the quick-access display on the right-hand side displays some birthdays. This is useful, however it displays the birthdays of users who have not been on in a LONG TIME. 

 

What I end up doing is actually going to the page full of today's birthdays and scrolling over each name to see if they have been on recently, so I would know whether they would see me birthday message or not. 

 

(I don't send a message to those who have not been on in 3+ months) 

 

I thought it would be a convenience if the birthdays were displayed in order from who is most active, to those who are least active. And that the quick-access display featured the birthdays of the users who have been on most recently, and like i said, less recently.

Yeah, I agree with this. So many times have I wanted to wish one of my friends a happy birthday, but I end up forgetting all about it (especially if it's a friend I don't talk to very often, or just another user that I've talked to on a random thread a few times). I've started to go to the full page myself, but it would be so much easier if the birthday list on the side of the page would show active users.

May I ask staff if anything is or will be done about this? I too made a thread about birthday notifications some time ago and I'd like to know if it is possible to make that a thing.

 

It came back to my mind just recently when it turned out I skipped lots of birthdays already and I feel bad about it ;/

I think this is a good idea but as far as I know it is not possible to do with IPBoard (as usual) unless you do some tweaking manually. Feld0 answered this question some years ago, I don't know if he can't do it or if he has forgotten about it (which is most likely).

 

I'd agree that tweaking the birthdays hook is in order, with the sheer number of birthdays MLP Forums has these days. It's a pretty reasonable suggestion. It is not exactly a high-priority task at this time, however, so while Scootacool and I will certainly keep it in mind, there is absolutely no ETA or guarantee we can provide on when/if this can happen.
 
Just wanted to give the acknowledgment that some great ideas were presented here that I can see us implementing at some point.

This has been suggested a million times before and I believe I have answered a bunch of times as well. This is not a default feature in IPBoard, however you can do this with this:

I'd like to thank you all for your feedback, and to let you know that the proposed changes have been implemented. The order of Today's Birthdays, in both the index and the full page, have been changed to sort by last active date.

I think it would be cool if the birthday users got special privileges as small gifts that any users can get if it's their birthday or something. Something closely similar to what donors and subscribers get to do but almost all users can do and kinda small but cool things. Maybe make it different sometimes. Though it might be kinda a dumb idea too.

 

Or they give all birthday users special messages or something like that when they log in or check on MLPForums.

 

Also, I agree that we should get notifications of our friend's birthdays in case we forget or get friendly reminders.

 

Maybe on some threads and topics users whose birthday is today have something like a star next to their name or party hat showing it's their birthday today or something? X3

To add aanother suggestion as I see the staff has listened to this, I would like to get notifications for my friends borthdays and be able to turn them on or off. It'd be nice

This suggestion has been taken into consideration, and now the Birthday List is ordered according to activity level.
