Hi all! The great and powerful Katie was wondering if there were any other ponies here who are veg? This community seems to attract a lot of compassionate ponies, so i figured I might have some luck in finding a few of us who are veg.

Wow, quite the quick responses! I went vegan before becoming a pegasister. I've been vegan long enough that I do not consider animal products to be food. Just kinda grosses me out (plus the horrid things done to "acquire" said "food"). I remember trying to tell myself all sorts of excuses about why I would eat meat. I guess I just woke up one day and was like "Katie, stop lying to yourself, as it is a pointless thing to do!".

Those of you that are veg or vegan, what made your mind up to change?

My father is... and I'm thinking about it. He says he feels a lot cleaner and no longer lethargic or anything, and he's lost a lot of weight. Contrary to what a lot of people think, my dad didn't go vegan because it's humane but rather the nutritional value. It's better to eat organic superfoods than low grade meat made from chicken tendons.

The inhumane thing about most animals contributes to the lowered quality of the meat, because one is literally what they eat.

I went vegan for the same reason I went vegetarian all those years before: the animals. That's the simple answer of course, I could go into detail and post a novel but I'd rather not right now. Environmental and health concerns were my other reasons but for me it's always been about the animals first and foremost.

My mom's a vegetarian, and one of my best friends is a vegan.  Ideally, I would be a vegan as well, because I hate the cruel practices of the mass-produced meat and dairy industries.  But the fact is I would waste away to nothing.  I guess what it boils down to is that I want to be vegan, but not enough to make myself miserable.  Sorry.  But I admire everyone who is.

Also, if a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat?

I'm vegan. I can't stand the thought of putting a dead animal,or anything that comes from an animal, in my body. I also try to eat organic when possible. I can't stand the thought of putting harmful chemicals in my body either.  :eww:

About two years ago, for whatever reason, I just started thinking... The more I thought, the more uncomfortable I became with eating that which I could go on without, so I turned vegetarian at first. Later, I became aware of veganism, somehow... it looked difficult to have that sorta lifestyle, but, it seemed like the next step for me. I hate causing even indirect pain, so I had a go at it, had a bit of uncertainty about whether I was okay with getting honey or not... and eventually, I got to the stage that I'm at now, a full-blown vegan.

I really wish I could try but I have too many health problems to start. I'm allergic to soy, most nuts & grains/wheats, and bananas. I do try and eat more fruit and vegetables than meat when I can.

I used to be vegetarian but I'm not anymore, I don't think it was the right diet for me.  I still use the vegetarian recipes I used before, no reason not to.  I just supplement my diet with meat these days.

When I go back to my study country, I can't eat the meat there ; so I become kinda vegetarian when I'm there , I guess? Until I go back home that is . :orly:
