spoiler Was Longhorn in the Wrong? (Spoiler for comic #25 and 26)

Obviously in The Good, the Bad, and the Ponies arc, Longhorn was the villain. He terrorized the town for weeks, physically assaulted some ponies, damaged property, etc. There's no denying that.

Still, though, he's not in the wrong here... all things considered. The fight was over a ranch that he technically should've owned anyway. (Chili Pepper packed up and left by himself, and he was the next natural "successor"). He even goes through all of the proper legal proceedings to acquire it... several times, never once cheating the system. Technically, it should've been his in a week.

However, we see him shafted at the last second by the Mane Six, who (presumably illegally) moved his property, while at the same time (definitely illegally) destroying/manipulating important paperwork so they can purchase the deed out from under him. (Fluttershy also technically impersonated a civil servant, but that's neither here nor there.)

Anyways, evil or not, i'm thinking Longhorn was technically cheated out of that land, and that the Mane Six (especially Twilight) are not only in the wrong, they had no right to interfere in the first place. Thoughts?

I kind of think he was in the right, too.

Minus all the rampaging, of course.

None of which actually would have happened if the Mane Six hadn't said anything. His crimes before then were, just as far as we know, robbery.

Legally, Longhorn was well and truly validated in wanting the land and by all accounts had full rights to the land before the Mane 6 intervened. However, his reasons for wanting the land in the first place were definitely suspect, not to mention the only reason Chili Pepper left was because Longhorn bullied him until he couldn't take it anymore.

I wouldn't say he was in the right, because he still used criminal means in order to set things up so he could take the legal approach in the first place.

Actually, there's nothing that says that Longhorn actually even had interaction with Chili Pepper. The story places it as him simply deciding to leave one day, and the townspeople being scared because they assumed that Longhorn had done something to him.

You are right on the criminal activity. However, to my knowledge, none of his crimes (arson, destruction of property, assault) would invalidate his claim on the land itself. That means, despite everything, he still should have technically been able to own it legally.
