Favourite Historical Weapon?

Taviscratch

Recommended Posts

The title says it all: What is your favourite weapon from history?

There have been a few threads on people's favourite fictional weapon so I thought I'd do something a little different.

As for me, I'm rather partial to the Schiavona.

Doesn't it just exude elegance?

How about you guys and gals?

I love blades and swords but the samurai blade is one that stands out and has been proven to be one of

the best weapons man has made: grace and sharp!

Effectiveness:
Mustard Gas: I mean yeah it's illegal, horrible, inhumane, and stuff, but man you want to take down and entire army in a matter of seconds without sending in any troops?

Old school:

Halberd: You can chop, poke, and you keep a good distance from the enemy too.

edit: I love how everyone is like oh they're so elegant and cool looking and I'm just sitting here thinking about their actual use, killing. Why do we glorify weapons when they are literally made to kill people?

American/English Revolutionary War Marksman Rifle (Flintlock Kentucky)

The gun that changed the rules of war

img-3546497-1-article-2342206-1A53A2B800

To those who don't know because they fell asleep in history class... this gun was used to ambush the English.... by first killing their guides, then by killing their officer, then the next high up rank and so on until that English group became nothing but a bunch of confused soldiers running for the sake of their own lives

how it changed the rules of war was because it use to be against the rules of war to kill an officer.... now its a strategy used everywhere

"samurai sword"... it's called a katana. I'm just irked to no end when people call swords the wrong thing...

This is an Ulfberht not a viking sword:

This is a Scimitar not a Arabian Sword:

(not to mention there are different kinds)

A sword is a sword.... it cuts people.....

though I understand completely what you mean... the swords have their own names....

I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite.

Based solely on inovation and how much it changed the face of the battlefield I must submit the Colt Walker / Dragoon as a top pick.

Theramin! Those sounds will mesmerize any soldier!

Ok, really tho.

The blunderbuss. Really simple and very nasty short range gun. Usually loaded with anything except actual shot. How about 20 iron nails flying at you at the speed of sound? Yum!

T-34

A tank unmatched until the appearance of Tigers and Panthers, even then the T-34 was far more mobile and more mechanically reliable.

Kudos on the German weapons of war! I love German tanks though I prefer the look of the regular Tiger.

As for general types of weapons, mine would be the cavalry saber and the bayonet.

If we're getting more specific, I'd have to go with the Luger

DWM_4_inch_Navy_Luger_859.jpg

the Browning M2 (playing War Thunder has given me a great appreciation for these guns)

browning_m2hb-2.jpg

the MG34 (I prefer the looks of this to the 42, rate of fire be damned)

mg34_l.jpg

and the PPSh 41

The always wonderful, always ludicrous, German Zweihander.

My bludgeoning weapon of choice, the morningstar

And finally, the trusty M1 Garand
