The Worst Snow in Kentucky? At least in Many Years

I am currently living in Bardstown, Kentucky where I moved to from Utah about three months ago.

For over seven years there has never been really any snow fall, if they get any snow at all it is only a couple of inches, but all in all the state has little experience when it comes to dealing with snow. Last time it was six inches, now we are getting a foot... and it will screw going anywhere for a few days. Thus, for all intents and purposes everyone his homebound and my brother will go another week like he did last time. This had actually lost him a week of spring break, though this time around the time lost because of snow will just be added to the end of the school year. My stepfather said only one gas station, City Hall, Court House, Police are only taking emergency calls, had been own when he went out last night.

At this point probably everything is closed, for the fact most people wont be able to even get out of the driveway.

I have pictures:

The above image shows my parents two buried cars, can you tell they are 93 Lincoln Town Cars?

Wow, look at that 6 inches of snow....

I'm impressed.

*Looks out window at piles of snow at around 6 ft+*

It's nothing compared to what we have in Massachusetts.....

@@Derplight Sperkle,

Actually at this point it is anywhere between 15 to 17 inch when I checked it a few minutes ago, the fact remains for a state without snowfall for years or in general with only a little snow it is terribly frustrating. Snowplowers are inexperienced, don't get to everywhere other states would, and all in all many people will be forced to stay at home for probably a week at least.

Still, 6 ft is a lot. More then I have ever seen, so I will give you that.

It isn't as bad here given that I live more in the city(Well I guess urban, it's too early to think what it is), but I know what you mean, I've attended class once in the last 2 weeks and have worked once as well. As much as I love snow it is quite pitiful. Should have been around when we got hit with the ice storms, imo those were much worse. Anyways I actually have to go shovel snow now lol

@,

I have actually been shoveling though it seems I am not in shape as much as I was last winter given how I have had to come in twice because of pain in the back. My goal is to at least get all the snow of the car, around the car, and a bit out into the parking lot.

@@Derplight Sperkle,

Well you do live in a state more up north, I get a feeling the snow you're describing is common.

I feel your pain, I joined the Army after growing up at the base of the snow line in CA, 3000ft normally saw 1-2 feet a year. My first duty assignment was FT. Drum New York, that was ummm     a little bit of culture shock with lake effect snow droppping 2-3 feet at a time.  the worst was when we add 18 foot drift's pushed onto our dinning facility and we were told at 2 AM if we wanted breakfast the cooks needed to be tunneled into the building.

Now I live here In Oak Grove, KY and for some reason I saw 8 inches of snow , went out side , shovled my drive way, cleaned my elderly neighbors drive way , and now im sitting here in my kitchen giggleing at all the people who are to "Special" to shovel a little snow and are just spinning out in their driveways. For the record I hate that white ****!

I live in Georgetown, Kentucky (15 miles from Lexington) and it snowed big here (again). I wanna say about 12 inches. Schools are out everywhere and I can't even get to work now lol XD

That's what it was when my dad went out to measure, friggin heavy snow too, not like that nice powdery stuff we had the other week. I need to start working out, my left arm is killing me lol

More snow than we've seen where I live since early 2011. =(

We used to get at least one 6 inch storm per year, but since 2011 (where we beat records for the most snowfall, go figure lol) we haven't seen anything like that.

Somehow our non-winters have become even more lame.

I live in Kentucky and sometime in 2010 right before Christmas we had a snowstorm in Whitley County that accumulated more than a foot of snow, way more than what we had in the two blizzards in the past few weeks. It knocked out power for days, why meteorologists are declaring this was the worse since the 90s is beyond me.

To be fair, I kinda forgot about the rest of Kentucky's state during that time.

Just curious, what area do you live in? Is it an area that tends to get a lot of snow per year? Also, I'd rather take a snow storm then a cold blast like what Illinois has been getting. It's been averaging below zero for a while. I'm literally getting cooped up in my house from the lack of outdoor activity.

It's not that where I live has ever been a particularly cold or snowy location. It's just that my particular area of the state used to always be in the bullseye for winter storms that would come through, whereas now they're hitting the western end of the state, Arkansas, Kansas... Whatever... Just not here.

Psh... Outdoor activity. xD Who needs that anyway?

That's my boundless energy speaking. I like a lot of space to let that out. I've actually been kicked out of my house to go outside from being too hyper.
