How come no one gets mad when Fluttershy throws RD's fears in her face?

But when Pinkie Pie does the same to Fluttershy- the same pony who- when need be, can stare down and scare a cockatrice shitless, talk down to a full grown dragon and make it cry, stand fearless in the face of a manticore, literally throw herself at Celestia's private garden animals, and chase them down demanding she be loved by them, throw a Luna-like tantrum over it, charge through Celestia and Luna's Castle, like a rampaging bull, and draw the attention of everypony at a Gala event, while she screams at the top of her lungs, stand up to Iron Will, have the balls to kidnap the Princess of Equestria's pet, literally bucking a Diamond Dog off of her back, talking back to RD's childhood bullies, and be the cause of Parasprites destroying Ponyville (all because she stupidly decided to keep one (and again, Pinkie gets the blame, rather than Fluttershy in that episode)) ect.- people start flipping out over it, and saying that Pinkie went too far, when Fluttershy has been shown doing the same thing? (see “Sonic Rainboom”. “Fluttershy says “just because you've failed the Sonic Rainboom One-hundred-thousand times in practice doesn't mean you won't be able to do it in front of a stadium full of impatient, super-critical sports fan ponies”)

Why does Fluttershy get away with it and Pinkie doesn't?

Same reason why Queen Krysilis is seen as cute and misunderstood, despite her being a totally heartless b$&@ch who tried to kill literally everyone, yet Gilda, who was merely a punk bully who yelled at Fluttershy, is seen as unredeemable and evil beyond measure. Because, as long as its Fluttershy, her overrated cuteness will protect her and make everyone forgive her mistakes, forget her bad moments, and defend her from anyone who does so much as disagree with her.

I hate Fluttershy. She's overrated.

I can probably answer along these lines:

A. Nostalgia Goggles. Alot of people fondly remembered Sonic Rainboom as being one of the best episodes they've seen. More critical eyes such as mine and what I found find it to be a good but very flawed Rainbow Dash episode.

B. The preferential treatment for Fluttershy. Due to how immensely popular Fluttershy because of her reserved nature, alot of people have this idealistic view on Fluttershy and thus tend to avoid the bad and negative stuff Fluttershy committed in the series such as causing the conflict of the episode by mentioning it to Rainbow Dash's bullies that she's still having issues doing the Sonic Rainboom.

To be fair, the Fluttershy/Dash moment was from season 1 while the Pinkie/Flutter one was from season 4. With the former, we're still learning more about the characters and at that time Fluttershy's moment could be seen through more innocent eyes. Had that moment happened in season 4, I doubt people would've been as forgiving, IMO.

well my response to that is- real love and adoration means accepting that person (or pony) for all they are- good and bad. You can't just choose to love one aspect of the character and ignore their flaws.  Doesn't work that way. Fluttershy shouldn't get her flaws and bad side ignored just because she's everyone's "waifu" and super cute. She's not free of flaws and it's stupid to convince yourself- if you are- that she is, and only seeing what you want to see in her. Fluttershy can pony up to seeing her own flaws. Why the hell can't her fanbase?

Bronies. SHTAP it. =_=

Another question, why is it OK if Fluttershy makes Pinkie and Rarity cry, yet everyone gets mad at Gilda and Angel because they made Fluttershy cry?

psst Gilda's better than Fluttershy

So I'm not the only one!

Because alot of people like to imagine their favorite character free of flaws so they can idolize and adore. It's not a thing unfamiliar before this, many other characters had this as well.

Cause,we all think Flutters is cute. However, there is a dark side of her that I kind of hope to be explored.

Did you really have to bring that up? Some of us,would like to forget about that scene.

well, I think her strong desire to be loved (as seen when she was throwing a tantrum at the gala, and by holding on so desperately to the breezies) may come from some parental abandonment issues, maybe? With how she tries to be warm and caring and such to animals and small children, it could be that and she's trying to prevent abandoning others the way she might've been, and develops - at times- too strong of an attachment to them, but at the same time, her anger explosions might be another side effect of that same deeply rooted, unexplored issue, since she doesn't know any other way to deal with whatever demons she's facing in that area, and might've reacted the same way, to herself being abandoned?.

but that's another topic for another day.

I've not noticed a time when Fluttershy does that to Rainbow Dash. What episode?

had you read the OP, you wouldn't have to ask

it's in there.

Sonic Rainboom.

"Just because you failed the sonic rainboom a hundred thousand times in practice, doesn't mean you won't be able to do it in front of an entire stadium, full of impatient, super critical sports-fan ponies!"

I will speak up in defense of Fluttershy fans in that she was still being encouraging, whereas Pinkie Pie crossed that line a while ago with her own speech, and Rainbow Dash wasn't reduced to tears midway through the speech, unlike Fluttershy. Also, the encouraging smile Fluttershy gave her dropped after RD freaked out. Those subtleties do make a difference.

Because cute shy girls are treated like little infant babies who are innocent and naive like five year olds forever. Trust me, I would know. The number of times I've had people recoil in shock because I so much as listened to a rock song is absurd, because people are so intent on reducing shy people to a few highly limiting tropes that they can't handle the thought of a shy person being anything else.

I am one of Fluttershy's absolute biggest fans, but that is because I know she isn't perfect. Because she throws fits and puts her hoof in her mouth and makes dumb mistakes and has anxiety attacks but at the end of the day, the show still treats her with respect, because she still deserves it. She's a realistic depiction of a shy character that, unfortunately, people want to reduce to a cutesy-shy trope because they can't fathom the thought of a shy person having a dynamic multifaceted personality.

Pinkie, though not so well understood by me personally, likely suffers from the same thing. In truth, every character and every person does.

In short, stereotypes are the worst and they ruin everything and that's why people have dumb character interpretations.

I think it's becsuse Fluttershy gets overrated due to her " cuteness ".

Also sone brought up Chrysailis and Gilda . Well Chrysailis was trying to feed her people ( not the most honorable way of doing it but still.). But Gilda well she was just .. A bitch to put it bluntly she had a rather flat unrealistic chracter design that's all .

I think it is in part that Fluttershy is cute & shy & acts super hurt.  It is the personal equivalent to "flopping" to get the ref to call a foul in the NBA

Exactly what i was thinking. You beat me to it.

I think this is one of the reasons I sympathize for her so much. It's not just that she's adorable, but also because she seems to have some deeply rooted problems. Like you said, she's always seeking love and belonging and wants to love others, but she doesn't always go about it the right way. I can relate to her there.

I still remember that scene with Gilda, though, and feeling so bad for Fluttershy. But now that I think about it, I would have felt bad for any of the mane six if they were in that situation, because none of them deserve it. Fluttershy being in that situation just affected me so much because she's so sensitive to those kinds of things.

Well several reasons:

One: timing.  Sonic Rainboom came out during S1 when the show had far less criticism than it does now.  Add on top of that that it's considered one of the best episodes of that season and you can have people overlooking a fifteen second scene. Also while Filli Vanilli was a good episode but we'd had 80 some episodes previously to build on.

Two: tone.  Fluttershy's back and forth had a bit more of a comedic edge to it.  Seeing someone full of pride and cocky break down is a bit funnier than someone who's far more emotionally vulnerable at the time.

Three: The back and forth.  In Sonic Rainboom you had some trade off.  Rainbow insults Fluttershy for not being a good cheerer, Fluttershy accidentally panics Rainbow, there's at least some give and take.  With Filli Vanilli you have Pinkie harasses Fluttershy twice, knowing that she's got stage freight while Fluttershy doesn't really do anything with Pinkie in this episode.

Now as to weather Fluttershy should receive criticism. Yes. The thing is though, even when giving out criticism you should still be respectful towards your subject matter.

Are Pinkie's actions in Filli Vanilli worse than Fluttershy's  Sonic Rainboom? In my opinion Yes.
