Ironic that Twilight became the element of magic?

Well, let me explain

 

First of all, friend ship is magic

 

Friendship = Magic

 

Magic = Friendship

 

Friendship is the relationship

between friends

 

Twilight was not known for 

making friends.

 

Meanwhile, Rarity was shown to

be generous to Steven Magnet

 

Pinkie Pie was meant to be

the element of laughter

(essentially happiness)

 

Fluttershy was KIND to

the manticore

 

Rainbow Dash was loyal

to her friends for not 

joining the shadowbolts

 

and AppleJack was shown

to be telling Twilight that she

would be safe

 

Twilight on the other hand, was not shown

to have always been social (having friends)

 

She was just learning about friendship

in the first two episodes.

 

 

Would a dark magic user all of a sudden

be the wielder of the light robe, for instance?

 

 

 

Im wondering if this makes sense

I think you're overinterpreting the "is" in "Friendship is Magic".

 

Friendship = Magic

Magic = Friendship

 

Friendship ≠ Magic.

I don't really see it as ironic. Sheer magical ability plays a factor in the bearer of the Element of Magic, which Twilight has been shown to have in spades. However, it's also the Element that catalyzes the others through friendship and harmony. While Twilight didn't really have friends before moving to Ponyville, she was shown to have the potential through flashbacks of her with Shining Armor and Princess Cadance. Twilight just needed to learn how to prioritize and let friendship into that dynamic.

I would like to believe that Twilight, having come from a state of weakness with friendship into a state of strong friendship, has learned more about the importance of friendship than someone who has never had a problem with keeping friends.  This goes for many things in life really.  Those who have climbed their way out of their own weaknesses, and bettered themselves are much stronger than someone who never fell into the hole in the first place.  Maybe it has something to do with that. Just an idea.

I don't really see how this could be ironic at all, since the whole first season could be interpreted as twilie learning to make and foster friendship

the way I see it, she excelled in Magic- even at a time from before she bothered to make friends (Celestia saw it, in Twi's entrance exam) But it took her a while to realize that one type of magic comes from friendship- and is- in fact, far more powerful than the magic she had been studying all her life (hell, she even creates a new type of magic, with the magic of friendship as a catalyst, by finishing Starswirl's spell)

It would be ironic had she not progressed as character past the point of what was seen in the first of the very first episodes.

 

Other than that it is more than appropriate that she became the element of magic, and later on the Princess of Friendship.
