MLP: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks - "My Past is Not Today" Magic?

Ok so I watched MLP: Equestria Girls - Rainbow Rocks - "My Past is Not Today"  and the video and song are just killer to no ends!  I love Sunset but the ending me a bit.   Seems Shimmer has magic but its not normal,  she has wings when calling on this magic and also has a heavy fire like theme.  So is maybe with the way the video showing that Shimmer might be our next Alicorn?   Can she pull on and do other types of magic outside the Girls?  Is it fire magic? Any more ideas?

I think it's as stylistic as all the near shimmer shipping the video displays.  [holding hands, dancing etc., {though sitting on Twily's piano like that was just begging the fandom to ship her.)

 

Edit: just like the other video with shimmer shipping, it's stylistic and not to be taken as canon.

Ohh I loved that video!! The animation seemed so much higher quality than I'd really ever seen before, and dat ending was a total anime scene! I loved the expansion on Sunset's character in just a short video, you really saw her true remorse and her desire to change her ways. Couple that with a really great song that could be on the radio right now, and you've got a winner. :3

Uhm, that was actually Friendship Through the Ages. Only Sunny was in the Past one X3 (And while we're on the subject of this one, that realistic horse that Sunny was riding. All of my yes!)

I actually delayed watching it untill I saw how many good reviews there were for it on this site. And I must say..... it lived up to my expectations. I really enjoyed watching it.

While Fim is no stranger of self worth lessons, this is so far we see a power up deriving from it  . It reminds me of Scott Pilgrim's power of self respect. That makes me draw more sixth ranger parallels with Sunset than before, the original rangers always employ teamwork to kick the bad guy's butt, and has the same power source. Unlike the sixth ranger, who's usually more independent in more aspects.

Sunset Shimmer's song is definitely my favorite out of the other two new songs shown. I love the lyrics and the overall musical style of the song. Hearing her sing is both amazing and beautiful and I love the video because she's facing herself and her past, yet she's not letting it control her or defy her as a person.

Call me crazy, but I've been on a bender lately where I keep rewatching the EG girls movies. I love Sunset Shimmer, and the ideals behind her. To me it's a reverse of Lancelot, where instead of backstabbing arthur, he is his rival, gets defeated in glorious combat, then realizes his errors, and they then form the round table.

I think it was confirmed on Twitter that Sunset Shimmer transforming into a phoenix was just meant to be symbolic. So, I don't think it meant that she has some sort of fire magic.

I 100% believe that Sunset will become the next alicorn-human, and I wouldn't be surprised at ALL if she gained wings in EQG 3 (probably in opposition to midnight sparkle).

She's being set up fairly strongly as the new central "mane" character of the EQG universe, with RR's plotline being heavily about her growth as an individual and the recent EQG videos centering around her.

 

 

 

 

As for the magic, I wouldn't be surprised if they felt the freedom to give the human six magics of some sort, since they gave them the ability to do things like shoot out cutie mark magic attacks in RR.

It's just a music video. Most of them are heavily stylized and rely on imagery. The wings are meant to convey growth and maturity perhaps. I wouldn't make too much out of it.

 

On another note, I did like the video and I personally told Daniel Ingram and Rebecca S. how I liked their efforts for the song.
