I have absolutely no hand in the roleplay world, but I thought I'd toss a few ideas anyways.

Personally I think one of the biggest accelerators for that kinda thing in stories is shared hardship and forced close contact/teamwork. So relatedly, here's a few ideas that play off that (assuming all people involved manage to play as believably normal in power, and don't aspire to be the hero by default):

 

  1. Stranded on an island with either no immediately conceivable way off, or one that requires some time to set up. I figure, conflict, tension, and some individuals looking out for each other/huddling in the rain.
  2. Some kinda vacation/trek/skiing thing/what-have-you into the mountains of somewhere, where a freak blizzard causes a small band that adventured too far to get separated from the group that would've warned them if they had stayed nearer. They then get lost and take shelter in a cottage and spend several days trying to survive hunger/cold. ...Admittedly that may be the weakest of the group because I can't see people having much to do, but yeah.
  3. A smaller cruise ship stalls in the dead of night, ponies disappear, and a group are left on board for unknown reasons (or the ship just stalls, and they're a small group of many). Explanations for this could be hashed out later, but left as an unknown for the characters to figure out. As with the previous, it's kind of a band together to figure out what to do, and maybe falling in with a partner of some sort kinda thing.

Or some stuff that's just more straight forward:

  1. Equestrian speed dating service.
  2. Night at the bar/resturant/etc, maybe in the aftermath of a festival some may or may not be feeling the celebratory vibe from.
  3. A social researcher gathers a group of young, hormonal ponies for unknown purposes/study and puts them in close quarters while under study (for like, a week/month or so). The subjects are under the impression it's either a competition, or take turns guessing at the real purpose. Meanwhile, researcher dude is just observing their interactions and basically making crud up to put them into different situations. Pretty sure that was the initial plot of an amateur horror story I read recently, but I figure it can work nicely too, since crud happened and a few people involved started falling for each other.

@@Anon In Equestria, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit interested, but I have no experience with roleplaying firsthand, and I think romance would be a bit hard to start with, haha.  :) Thank you though! I'll at least think on it a bit, regardless, but I'm probably gonna have to decline.

 

But yeah, I'm free to toss ideas back and forth with if necessary though.  ;)

@@Anon In Equestria, I think that's an awesome way to look at it.  ;) If I take up RPing, I may start smaller though, haha.

 

And thanks, that's the best I can hope for.  :P Or hopefully, it jogs some new ideas as well if nothing else.  :) I can't count how many times I've had ideas for my own stuff sparked by things I see lurking around.

Indeed it is, I saw a film recently quite like the last idea, except they were locked in a room for a Hour and a half and had to guess what the question was before the time ran out, it... Didn't go to well...

 

But with some Adjustments it could work well for romance.

They're asked to stay in a in a space about the size of a warehouse for about a year that has everything they need, places to sleep, food, water, things that made sure they didn't go nuts. But they weren't  told why they need to stay.  So they'll just be living a year of their life in that space.
