Im re watching all the episodes

and I remembered how immature

the teenage dragons were potrayed

calling spike "peewee" and "shrimp"

(insults are toned down to remind

you that this is a kids show).

But what really changes everything

here is how the dragons end up putting

down ponies (including princess celestia)

What gets to me is, whats with the hate?

In addition to this, they also thought

they had the right to take the life of an egg.

I mean theyre teenagers, they should

have known better than that.

What do you think? Whats with their

discriminatory beliefs?

Do you think this will be elaborated

on more in the show?

Not really, that was a one time deal; spike didn't like how they were treating his friends. But can't really say how he feels about the other dragons nowadays. But i can say this: There are teenagers who act this way, but they grow out of it once they realize what they're doing.

The only dragons we saw were the rude gang of teenagers. Can't judge a species off of that demographic.

That said, as all the dragons we've seen so far (Spike doesn't count as he was raised from birth by ponies) are inherently greedy, independent and immensely territorial, I imagine dragons view themselves as stronger and far more superior to other creatures, not just ponies, which would translate into insults and racism very easily.

This! Dragons are traditionally incredibly vain, arrogant, rude, and think themselves superior to others. I think its reading too deep to say the dragons, isolated teenager gang or the whole race, are racist, is too far.

Until the creators give us a dragon kingdom rivalling Celestia's and bringing in legit racism like 'unicorns are better than orher ponies / dragons are better than everyone, period, ponies are inhwrently dumb & slow', then we're just nitpicking.

Well, they're dragons aren't they?

They are not civilized beings and they're not educated either so it is obvious that they will be ignorants.

There is also a chance that in the past Ponies and Dragons have had massive wars until the princessess managed to cool it down but there is still hatred amongst the dragons for ponies.

Well, if you count the comics as canon there are dragons living in Fillydelphia. :P

In any case the only dragons we saw in the show was that small group, and....they were stereotypical teenagers. Of course we've seen other dragons that are hostile (Dragonshy, Journal of the Two Sisters), but still that is only a small segment.

They're maybe the most powerful creatures of Equestria, and they're very proud of it.

But I like to think that not all of them are like that. Hopefully they'll introduce kind dragons too.

^This. It seems that as a Dragon gets older, they slowly become more and more beast-like and unintelligent, which is kinda sad really. Who would want to be a dragon if that were the case?...xD

^This as well. Dragons just dun' care. xD (And have a superiority complex, maybe..e.e)

BTW, i cant be the only one whos asked this, what happened to the phoenix egg spike kept??

The beginning of Just for Sidekicks shows via a series of photos that Spike returned him to his parents after an incident involving ice cream.

I know this'll sound crazy but I have a dragon spirit with a heart that is pure. He himself only is aggressive toward threats but does welcome others to his home. But this is my take at the topic at hand:

It is true by nature that most dragons are territorial by nature and even become rather vain, but not all dragons will be greedy nor aggressive without reason. There are those dragons which do have inherent behaviors to greed and blasphemy due to a superiority complex. But there are those of pure heart that do welcome others to their home, and even will protect other's aside from their own kind. Spike is an example of a dragon with a pure heart. It maybe because of his upkeep as a pet, but he shows no aggression unless he is threatened in some manor or another.

Racism? I wouldn't call it that, they just said those things about the ponies because they were smaller then them, I don't think species was something they were thinking about.

It's 2015, EVERYONE's racist!

This concept has been around a lot longer then 2015.

:ooh: As someone above has said, the dragons are made out to be punk teenagers. They think just because they're big scary dragons compared to fluffy ponies, they are superior to them and their princess(es).

I hope to God that there really are Spike-like Dragons in Fillydelphia in canon.

It might have to do with how they were raised spike was raised by ponies and the others were raised by dragons. But I still think they should of been nicer to spike. So what if spike was raised and found by ponies. If I were a baby dragon I'd want to be found by ponies.

Poor spike

They're not racist, they're jerks, there's a difference.  On top of that, they're teenage-jerks, which is a whole other level of bad, but I don't think the jerkiness really changes that much with age for dragons.  Maybe they won't be quite the same punks when they're older, but they might be even more hotheaded than they were before, who knows?  We've seen what adult dragons in the show can be like, and that's nasty and short-tempered.  Either way, it's not really racism, not unless you read too much into it.

I don't know, really...that episode had a good idea of Spike going on a journey and meeting other dragons, figuring out his place in the world and everything. But the execution was botched. All the dragons he met were teenagers--and jerks for that matter. No female dragons, no older dragons, no other baby dragons. They made no effort at world-building for this species; they just turned it into a peer-pressure morality tale like you would see on any kids' show. For an MLP episode, it could have been a lot better.
