    • Yes, BUT must have conditions and limits to the owner.

Hello people. My father keeps claiming that people shouldn't breed pitbulls, because there are a lot of accidents that the dog kills children, including the owner's kids. I go against, because my opinion is that the dog's personality is molded by the owner's actions. If you treat your dog bad, the dog will be bad. People should have a certificate that allow them to breed them and take care of them.

Depend who's taking care of them and what their environment is. I'd say not letting anyone have a pitbull in urban areas really. I have a boxer-pitbull but in a 10 acre ranch just in case anyone tries to trespass with us knowing so. He's not tied up though, but he isn't a mean potato.  Father keeps him healthy and taken care off. (Protective, loving, and just like my dad X3 being that he was in the military and all) He's a nice dog because we treated him nicely (and of course tell him not to leave the ranch too), just prefered not to keep them tied up or enclosed in places too small. That is what ticks pitbulls off.

I am right up there with your thinking. It's not the dog's fault. I have heard instances where their pit bull is the most sweetest, most loving dog ever. The problem isn't with the dog, but with the people who raise them.

Heck yah they are <3 my dog always whines when me or my dad come back home X3 so cuuuuuute<3

Pitbulls are beautiful dogs and people should be allowed to have them in their home. But I don't believe that some Pitbulls violent behavior is entirely the owners fault. I think that genetics may play a role in whether a Pitbull will snap or not as well. If you get a puppy from a mother that was bred with her brother, there's going to be a problem genetically later down the road -- if not with that puppy, then with its own offspring. Now, imagine generations of inbreeding by a negligent owner. With that, you could raise that puppy in a loving home and possibly still have it attack you or someone else at some random point; because mentally something is off. That's why its important to know where you get your dogs from -- especially Pitbulls because they are probably the most abused breed -- and know the history of the dogs parents.

Such bad rep for something that can be loving and loyal, any dog can be. A law shouldn't prevent people from having them, only those who can't treat them with respect. Even a lab can become aggressive; so really its no big issue.

My brother has one, and he's the sweetest thing you'll ever see. You can train them to be guard dogs, but only due so if you have a real purpose for it.

Pits have been breed for hundreds of years to do one thing, fight and kill things. It's in their DNA. Those tendencies can be suppressed with proper training but they will always be there, just waiting to surface. That's why you hear about so many seemingly gentle, well behaved pits suddenly "snapping" and attacking their owner or others.

They've got a screw loose and I don't trust them.

Yes they have a right to as long as they train them well like how other dog owners train their dogs. As for violent pitbulls, most of the blame should be put on the owner instead of the dog. Pitbulls can make good pets like most dogs can.

Pit bulls are absolutley wonderful dogs and should be treated with respect.

If the person can a tually take care of the dog and treeat it right, then they should be able to own one.

If you ask me, we shouldn't be outlawing pitbulls, we should be outlawing humans that raise them in such a way that they turn vicious  :okiedokielokie:

If I could somehow make it so that humans who can't properly take care of animals weren't allowed to have them, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Until then, we just have to be kind to pitbulls and blame the deed, not the breed. They're sweet creatures when raised with love and kindness and proper care.

Im against telling people what they can do in their own homes and property, that said it will be those people's butts getting sued and having to pay through the nose if there dog attacks and hurts or kills someone, I know a kid that got attacked by one and it ripped the muscles off his arm and broke the bone, his arm was literally hanging by just what skin was left, people can keep them if they want just so long as they understand that they will be responsible for any injuries, death or damage the dog causes even if it occurs on there own property

Why not? If you treat your dog right, keep it in a controlled environment and generally have it relax, there's no reason for it to attack you or anyone else. Afraid it might anyway? Let it interact with people when you're around, so it can get accustomed to them, then keep it at a safe distance afterwards. It's pretty straightforward.

I happen to have raised a few pit bulls.

Let me start off first and foremost with this.

There is no such thing as an overly aggressive dog. You make the dog aggressive by mistreating it, or training it to be aggressive. A pitbull, like any other dog is a loving, loyal animal that only wants to please it's master. Sure, they're big and scary, but look at German Shepherds, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinschers and the like. They are all legendary breeds for their aggressiveness and reputation as guard dogs. I've owned all of the above dogs, and they have all been the most loving animals you could ask for. Strangely enough, the meanest dog I've ever owned were Jack Russells who couldn't curb their hunter instincts. They would kill small animals any chance they could because they were bred to do so. My one Jack Russell had a peculiar trait about her, she was extremely defensive of people. If you were holding her, and I tried to touch you, she would attempt to bite me.

As long as they're not abusive crappy owners and don't train them to fight/attack then yes, I think pit bulls are great dogs (however I do think it's a good idea to research the breed and how to train them before getting them, but that's with any breed)

That's completely wrong.

Of course they should allowed to. The pit-bulls people are always hearing horror stories about only behave that way because their owners suck at raising them

Very little of a dogs personality is based on breed. Most dogs behave according to how they're raised. Its not the Breed as a whole that is responsible for the deaths of children, but rather, the cruelty of the owners.

Pit Bulls are no more aggressive than any other dog. Their behavior will depend on the way they are raised. They may be physically capable of doing damage, but so are most breeds of dogs.  If we're going to outlaw any breed of dog that may be physically dangerous, then we're all going to end up with Chihuahuas. Nobody wants that.

Additionally, where do all the existing Pit Bulls go when owning them gets outlawed? Do we put them all to sleep? Imprison them in kennel so they can wait around to die? No breed deserves that.

Pitt Bulls get a bad rep. They are just as loyal and affectionate as any other breed.

Well trained beagle?

Have you ever had a beagle?

Good luck training one.

Exactly my point. Trying to train the aggressive prey drive out of a pit is just as improbable as training a beagle to not chase rabbits. Training simply cannot trump deeply ingrained genetics.

And yes, I used to raise beagles.
