Sense Of Humor Mini-Rant

You know what annoys me? When someone makes a controversial joke (like a rape joke) and I dont find it funny, they have the nerve to tell me I lack a sense of humor. I'm sorry, but I'm not obligated to find your sick jokes funny, and in my opinion if you have to put victims of that horrible crime at the butt of your jokes you obviously are an inefficient comedian.

You know what I find annoying? When someone tells me I'm a inefficient comedian because they don't like my jokes, and then feel offended because I tell them to get a sense of humor.

It's a bit hypocritical of you to say people have the nerve to tell you that you lack a sense of humour, and then you go and criticise theirs, saying their jokes aren't funny and they are bad 'comedians'.

People have different senses of humour, get over it. Yes, it's wrong that they tell you that you lack a sense of humour, but it's wrong of you to judge people by jokes they make. People that get all up in arms about rape jokes and things like that, in my opinion, are just as bad as people that they think are terrible for telling said jokes. Those jokes are simply shock humour - nobody except for the people that do those things themselves are okay with what is happening (unless they are really messed up), they just find the jokes about it funny because of their sense of humour. That doesn't make them sick - it just means they find different things funny.

If you don't find those kinds of jokes funny, that is totally fine, I and lots of other people respect that, but getting all pissed off about it and displaying that isn't the way to go. If you find something that you don't like or that offends you that other people are enjoying, at least in this sense or a similar sense, just remove yourself from it.

Again, I want you to know I'm not trying to be a dick or anything, I'm just stating my opinion. You can get angry about this stuff - but that doesn't mean you have to insult others for thinking differently.

I guess i was a little harsh, it just feels like stuff like rape jokes are exploiting someone's suffering for other's amusement. Not to mention someone close to me has been raped so you cant blame me for being a bit bitter about it.

Of course I'm not gonna say something stupid like "They are just as bad as a rapist" cause that totally not true, But it certainly, in my opinion, lacks effort.

This might sound insensitive but I'm not sure how else to word it, so please don't take it the wrong way, but yes, people that have had these crimes happen to them are exploited for these jokes, but that's why people find them so funny. It's the shock, the feeling of "Oh my god, did they seriously just do/say/show that? That's so ridiculous! Bahahahha!". People that like this stuff never really stop to think about those that are being exploited for the sake of a joke, I guess.

Also, if it means anything to you, a lot of people's (including me) method of coping with things is to make jokes and laugh about it. That may be why shock humour is so popular, because people are unconciously trying to comprehend what the hell just happened and their way of doing it is laughing (but they don't see that when it's happening).

And I'm really sorry about your friend, I understand what it is like to have this happen to somebody close to you (I'm not just saying this, I actually do understand).

Well, I still stand by everything else i said, about how im not obligated to find any joke, rape or otherwise, funny,

Also, if one is gonna make a rape joke, at least make some effort. Like, i don't know, make a joke at the expense of the rapist? Just, please, nothing to do with the size of their package. Its been done countless times.

Psh. Ofc you aren't obligated to find the joke funny, but still making the jokes doesn't make you a bad comedian. Because everybody has different tastes. Some rape jokes can be executed pretty well.

Also haven't heard many jokes about rapists with big dicks, not going to lie xD

Yeah, I get how a lot of rape jokes aren't funny anymore, mainly cause it's all been done. There are a few 'gems' (at least for me) every now and then though :P.

And ya that's fine that you stand by what you said. Just please don't mock/criticise other people for finding this stuff funny.

Oh and yeah, there are lots and lots of jokes made at the expense of the rapist. Probably equal to the amount of jokes made at the expense of the victim.

In my opinion, I might start being more lenient towards rape jokes once rape apology stops being so prevalent. I hate it when people make excuses for rapists. And taking the subject of rape lightly and putting into jokes isnt helping.

(mini rant not against rape jokers, but rather rape apologist, just need to rant) No, how DARE you feel sorry for the rapist and not the rape victim. "But....they are so young, had promising careers." AND THE VICTIM DIDN'T? Listen you sack of crap, depending on where the victim lives, they will be shamed and called a slut for something they had no control over, and you are worried about the lives of the rapists? BUCK YOU! IN THE EYE!

Eh. I'm pretty sure that joking about rape and thinking that rape is ok aren't interlinked at all.

I think the fact that it has comedic effect for shock value kind of shows that most people who joke about rape know its very wrong.

Whats the difference between making jokes about rape and making jokes about murder? Does making jokes about murder make it seem any less wrong? >.<

Actually my problem is more of it making light of a situation. I dont think people who make rape jokes think rape is ok. Well, i HOPE they dont.

Eh. Think most of the points have already been made for the other opinion

People generally make light of a bad situation for shock value, or even as a coping mechanism ( Joking about fucked up things is fairly common for people who've suffered through them.). I understand your opinion though ^_^
