Definitely not just you. I personally really liked season 3, despite it's flaws, but the show's done nothing but improve since then. Season 4 was my all-time favorite season as of yet, and now season 5 is starting off really strong, with not a single episode I can say I haven't legitimately loved.

Maybe because they are more working on the emotions now (in my opinion), there are more sad scenes, and more scenes where the characters express their thoughts or their feelings (Twilight in Castle Sweet Castle, Rainbow Dash in Tanks for the Memories...).

Don't get me wrong, i loved Season 4. But even that season had some serious problems *cough* Rainbow Falls *cough*

But this season is having such a strong start, that i think that it could really make Season 4 look bad. I am very happy so far.

I enjoy every single episode, just more some than others. I don't like CMC episodes as much but that's just because I'm not a huge fan. I still enjoy watching. As for the seasons specifically, I do think they've improved over time. Season 4 beat out all the others in my opinion and season 5 is now a serious contender.  ^_^

I liked season 4 for the most part but so far it's had nothing on season 5

This season we've been smacked around in the feels department and this latest episode was just a body blow. I can't wait to see if season 5 is going to end this with a total K.O.

I think we've finally gotten through to the big wigs that this show had so much potential other then being just another kids cartoon

I feel like so far, every episode has specific weight to the overall continuity of MLP. Plus I like all five episodes thus far.

S3 was messy to me. I was watching the finale on my phone in bed, half fallin asleep, then suddenly Twilight is an alicorn. It just went too quickly for me. I can see why it doesn't seem as thought out.

Well I think it has to do with follow up and expectations. In Season 4 we had this expectation with the Mystery Box of Harmony and Princess Twilight Sparkle changing up the status quo and this idea that there would be a huge arc and then we got what could be argued was a lot of filler with teasers that went nowhere (Shadow Pony, Flutterfangs, Disappearing Comic) so it felt disappointing, at least to some. With this season we have less build up for a grand narrative and a bit more experience with this and as such the SoL episodes that follow are coming off a bit better, as well as also the writers having more experience with creating a season arc structure.

Season three was short, and perhaps a little weak. I absolutely loved "Magical Mystery Cure" though, but I think it should have been two parts. If nothing else, they could have fit more songs! Seriously though, I think episode one should have had more dialog and scenes of the confusion she caused. It could have ended quite nicely with the line "Oh Spike, what have I done?". They should have then given Twilight more time to come up with a possible solution. Finally, they could have had a scene with Twilight's friends in a panic after her apparent magical vaporization. I would have liked to have seen their reactions. Many tears would have been shed.

(I'm talking about mine, but I think her friends would weep too!)

Still, like I said, I loved the episode.

It's not just you. I also noticed that Fluttershy is no longer seemingly weak, but she's still kind. That is exactly what I wanted.

I think that after "putting your hoof down" they've taken away Fluttershy's ... "innocence"... somewhat

As a character development it's good as long as they don't take it too far

Season 5 episodes seem to have been generally deeper than most previous episodes. From teaching about the falsehoods of communism to going through the 5 stages of grief to learning to accept who you are. But this is just a show for 2 year old girls with rainbows and tea parties and stuff.

They weren't lying when they said they were going places this season. The episodes have already had me far more engaged with their stories, and I've been really pleased with character development so far. I hope they keep it up. :)

So far, I really liked season 5. It feels more concentrated at making great episodes, instead of pandering to the bronies *cough* season 4 *cough* I'm very interested at seeing where the new season is going to take us

Fluttershy was mean in that episode. In season 5, she's not exactly mean, but she's no longer being weak and afraid of everything. Let's take the scene where Pinkie told Fluttershy to tell the animals to stop making the balloons pop. Earlier, she would have said sorry and do what she was told. Also, in the latest episode,

she showed kindness by telling Rainbow Dash that she would never see Tank for a whole season. That would have came off as harsh, but she had to know.

Fluttershy is still kind but not weak. Unfortunately, Twilight is better, too. Actually, I think all the Mane Six are great, so I'm not sure if my ranking will change.

Season 3 was rushed, I think.

It was. But the way i understand it, it was because they didn't have renewed contracts at it's creation and no one knew how far to take it. It was all fixing to be canceled way back then and only in the last little bit did it get it's renewal.

Yeah, S3 has a lot of fan service (ie Trixie coming back), and then the marketing team really pushed for twilight becoming an alicorn + it being 13 episodes jsut made the whole thing feel rushed!

I also think that they tried to make s3 more "boyish" or as the fandom wanted (ie the first 2 episodes which where very epic battle with little character development).

Now they are working us over in the emotions department and giving everything background! It's so much better!

Okay, maybe this season's episode have been a bit generic if you want to call it that but they're not that bad either and we've already had plenty of good moments in the Season already so I'm optimistic that we will see even better episodes later into the season.

From what i'm getting out of it, they were prepping MLP for syndication with other networks, since around the time of S3 was probably the time they learned the Hub was getting replaced. 65 episodes, the count at the end of S3, is the typical package for syndication. So the reason it was rushed was because the Hub was going to be reclaimed by the Discovery network and there was a chance MLP wasn't going to be brought along.
