I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed that for the first time ever, every episode this season has had a song. Ok, The Cutie Map has only one, but two parters are kind of like one long episode. Bloom and Gloom has a shorter song with a reprise, but even though the wiki doesn't acknowledge it, I'm still counting it. I think this is a topic that warrants a thread. What are your thoughts on the matter?

As for me, I think the quality of the songs has been good so far despite their frequency, but I'm concerned that quality might not last if we do end up getting a song every episode. I'm aware that these songs are composed and recorded well ahead of time, but I guess we'll find out soon enough whether all of Ingram's work this season holds up. I do love the music in the show and get excited when an episode features a song, but up until now songs were something we got only on certain occasions to accompany episodes that call for them, and I think that made the songs that much more enjoyable since they weren't something we got with every episode.

Of course, G1-3 was known for having songs frequently, if not for every story arc. On the other hand, the vast majority of those songs are terrible IMHO. I'm all for FiM going down the path of having songs every episode, but only if the quality remains consistent. So far it has been, so maybe there isn't any cause for concern and Ingram has proven his skill as a composer. I think I've pretty much summarized my thoughts, so I now turn the discussion over to you.

I don't think there'll be songs in every episode. A season usually has about 15-20 songs, so I imagine they're just rolling the first few out now. There's been some great songs so far this season, but I don't think we need one every episode.

Every season has about the same amount of songs.

But in season 5, it looks like they preferred to put 1 song in many episodes, rather than many songs in a few episodes (which is what they used to do, look at Magical Mystery Cure, A Friend in Deed or Pinkie Pride...).

Personally, I don't really care as long as the songs are good.

frankly? my boredom increases in direct proportion to the amount of songs featured in an episode.I'm not talking about the quality of the songs, but only of their frequency. And yes, I too have noticed an increase in the frequency of the songs in this season and it is something that gives me enough boredom. Oh,and of course I don't care if what I said goes against the majority of users of the forum and then, more generally, of the so-called "bronies".

I normally love the songs in MLP, but this season hasn't been doing it for me. "In Our Town" was great, and AJ's lullaby in "Bloom & Gloom" was cute, but I disliked "Make This Castle A Home" and "I'll Fly" was solid, but not fabulous.

I'll be fine if there's a song every episode, but unless the quality improves, I'll be hoping for at least one or two breaks this season.

I don't like ANY of the songs in My Little Pony to be honest! I don't hate them, but I don't like them either and whenever they put a song in an episode it just kind of ends up taking a lot of time that the creators could have spent into character developing or making the plot more interesting.

IMO a song in every episode does more harm than good. Songs should be a nice surprise that pop up once in a while, it makes them more special. That's what bugged me when the two parters had three songs in them, it got to be too much of a formula to follow and the quality of the songs and episodes suffered. In Our Town, Make This Castle a Home, and I'll Fly were good, but I'd appreciate a break for a few episodes.
