So I've been wanting to make a pony themed japan role play for a while and need some help in a fellow GM but also idea making a bit. Now the level is Semi-Lit to Lit in posting! Some of the themes I want is:


 


History


Shinto


Folklore


Samurai


Warring States


Yokai/Demons


Time Travel


Ocs


 


Or anything else you can think! If any pony has any idea or feedback please post away and also if you want to join!

 Actually this does sound interesting. I, myself, have always had respect for ancient lore for Japanese culture. I'm not exactly as knowledgeable as I'd like to be but I'd be happy to join regardless. Though, I have no japanese pony OCs, though I do have Fursona OC that could work for this since she is a Kitsune.

 Actually this does sound interesting. I, myself, have always had respect for ancient lore for Japanese culture. God, as far as ideas... I may need to think on it a bit.

 

Though I guess we could just start with a base like a starting village and maybe mark shrines near by. Then expand from that point onward. Like building a map of a world piece by piece.

 

Also to give you an idea what my OC would generally look like when not taking a more spirit form:

I am quite interested and would be pleased to take part, but the closest thing I have to a Japanese-esque OC is my Eiquetan ( tibetan ) monk OC based off of Hindu/Buddhist lore, if that would be acceptable.

 

 

 

Also, the story of Susanno-o' defeating the yamata no orochi is worth looking into.

 

Also... have you ever heard of Japan's infamous " Suicide woods " ?

I've been wanting to do an RP like this for a LONG time! Look at my username/OC's name! I even thought of the name "Japon", as in a ponified version of Japan!

Good,  we need more mlp japan fans and  maybe Japon could work...

I think thats a good idea but I was thinking of also what History area....perhaps Warring States or to the end of it when you had clan fighting clan and such and I've been reading bout the ninja a lot...

 

Also Nightshade has a good point,  in the idea of shrines which is a HUGE  tie into the Shinto and much of the folklore of japan (i have like 15 books bout japan....)

I'll probably be one of the biggest contributors to this since I can help out on a lot of issues. I'm very knowledgeable about history, folklore, customs, etc. You will need other people and resources to help make this happen of course, even my knowledge has limits, but I can still step up to the plate and answer a lot of questions you might have.

 

Also, if this is set in Equestria, I honestly don't think one specific history period in Japan is going to work. Warring States era would be good if we were doing an older version of Equestria or even a story involving combat and battles. However, for general purposes, I think the best way to go would be an amalgamation of all of Japan's history. It's a fictional world filled with talking, multicolored ponies after all. Who says we can have ninjas, yokai, big modern cities, and all that stuff in one place? Equestria has just enough Modern and Fantasy elements to make it work.  :)

I think Modern could work but I would like a throw in of Civil war cased in just to add in the story bone and plot a bit.
