Might as well start this thread for the general speculation of season 3.
So, what do you think will go down in season 3, and how? Here's my thoughts.
I think everybody (including Spike) will be a couple of years older, having matured a bit both mentally and physically (e.g longer manes, tails, and in Spike's case, a simple growth spurt, but not too much). As for mental, they will all be wiser about both friendship and Equestria in general, and represent their element slightly better than they did in seasons 1 and 2, although not mature enough to make a dramatic character shift. For example, Rarity will still be slightly dramatic and times but Fluttershy will be slightly more confident, although she would still be "shy" in some regards.
For the season premiere... they would go over the small timeskip of a couple of years and recap on what happened prior to the premiere. For example, a few friendship problems they faced and such, the CMC still trying to acquire their cutie marks, and self-problems. Perhaps even talk about the origin of the two Princesses as well. After the season 2 finale, we finally saw Celestia in action against the Queen Changeling, so it would be nice to see how Celestia and Luna acquired their powers. Perhaps detail how they defeated Discord (maybe that's what John de Lancie was working on).
I have a feeling this season will be more "story-arc" oriented in contrast to seasons 1 and 2 where each episode represented a problem, but in season 3 this would represent an overall bigger problem which needs to be addressed, although some episodes would still follow the method of season 2, thus making the entire thing "balanced out". In the season 3 finale, I believe that the CMC will finally get their cutie marks in the face of almost total disaster - with this disaster being the end of their friendships. Of course, they manage to come together and save themselves and each other with their newfound stronger friendship and bonds. Of course, the only reason I have this specific episode spectacle at hand is because in the season 2 finale, we didn't see the Elements of Harmony saving the day - instead, we got to see Cadence and Shining Armor completely obliterate the Changelings and their Queen back to their origins. In this regard, perhaps in the season 3 premiere, the ending will be about the whole of Equestria bonding together with friendship and harmony to stop a truly evil villain, much more evil and sinister than the Queen, Discord, and Nightmare Moon.
Erm, so yes, those are my two cents! What's your take?
