Hi everypony!

Anyone that are into the "Straight Edge" sub culture?

For everypony that don't know what it is it can mean many things (but you don't need to follow it all):

It's a subculture and ubgenre of hardcore punk whose adherents refrain from using alcohol, tobacco, and other recreational drugs (this is something you have to follow if you are a Straight Edge). For some it means being a vegetarian and not using caffeine or prescription drugs.

I am not a 100% follower, but I do not use alcohol, tobacco or other recreational drugs and I am a big fan of punk rock, punk and hardcore punk. Even though I don't follow induvidualism that are also a part of Straight Edge for many.

I know that it can mean many other things too, but these are the main things that the Straight Edge community follows.

If there is something important that I missed just tell me, I am quit new to this.

I know a lot of people who've done the Edge thing. Very few keep it past 21 around here.

Eh, I like to avoid alcohol as much as possible, but a single beer drunk responsibly now and again can't hurt that bad can it? And I don't smoke or nothing, so I can get it. Straight edge are alright, its the ones on a moral high point you gotta watch out for though, but I can understand what they say. And the ones who talk all tough, but after the show, you catch 'em drinking and smoking and what-not. For the most part though, I have no strong feelings either way.

but no, I'm not straight-edged. And all the people who I use to know that were straight-edge. discovered the wonderful world of alcoholism (turning of legal age helps).

Yeah well, like Zoop said once, people have a limitless ability to change. I know a concerning amount of former straight edge become alcoholics. Or maybe thats just what they say to make fun of them. I dunno. Either way, punks almost always die punks or grow up and become the people punks hate, I can imagine straight edge are no different.

I see.. Me and a friend have made a deal... If I see him drinking or he sees me drinking he or I (depending on who it is) will grab the beer or whatever it is and destroy it xD

I think it sounds good :P

I am not a punk when it comes to how I am in person and I don't hate anybody or anything that doesn't think what I think. I am not a follower of the punk life style, but I agree with a few things.
- Creating a community where everyone can be there self
-Straight Edge (most of it)
And that's all I can come up with right now...

Cool. So if you did not like punk, you would be considered straight edge or not?

I've known one person who did straight edge, but he wasn't very serious about it and now grows pot in California

I think if it's your cup of tea go for it, however I have always seen problems with lifestyles that adhere to complete abstinence of things like alcohol, it makes it so intriguing that once you do get a hold of it you may go crazy with it. I believe with alcohol moderation and learning to drink responsibly is more beneficial than never partaking at all.

(Not like I should be saying anything, I've had a few crazy intoxicated nights...*flies away and whistles innocently) but I think if you party hard every once and awhile, as long as you have a designated driver and a close group of friends that you are comfortable with and will take care of you then it's okay as long as it doesn't become a habit.

Either way brohoofs to you for giving it a go, I wish you the best of luck :)

I don't do drugs or smoke. I can't promise that I won't start drinking once I'm 21. Although I'll have to abstain until at least I'm out of the house. And frankly, I've been around friends while they were drunk, and it didn't seem all that great.

Although, there have been some wines I've always wanted to try.

And punk is okay. I prefer metal.

So I guess I'm kinda straight edge, but I wouldn't really call myself straight edge.

I don't think I would be able to be straight edge.

Drinking is like a custom in my family .-.

The Straight Edge thing got big when I was in High School with some kids, so did hard core dancing. I had no problem with it, and only a couple of them were flat out mean about it and tried to push their agenda. But a town about a 130 miles away they had this thing called hardline. It was Strait Edge kids beating up anyone that they saw smoking or drinking. I don't know if that's true but that is what I had heard, and I never had any run ins with someone like that. And I can't really imagine anyone doing such a thing. As for me, I am far from straight edge haha. :P

You should make a poll. :)
