so i was thinking, in season 1 the whole plot was that twilight helped her friends and wrote letters to celestia about it, however in season 2 that responsibility got passed of to individual ponys of the mane 6, making twilight not necessary in every episode. Following common logic we can see that in season 3 the letter making responsibility will once again be passed changed. this isnt for sure however as there has only been 2 seasons, if it happens in the 3rd season we can assume it will change every season. what do you guys think of the theory? and if it is true how will the letter making be changed?

I hope it continues like in Season 2 and it would be awesome if they gave (even) more depth to the other ponies besides from mane6.

But who knows what they have planned.

Season 2, IMHO, focused a bit more on the individual characters than the entirety of the Mane 6. While it did ultimately give us a brand new perspective of the show, aided by the wonderful character development, it didn't really hone into the Mane 6 as a whole, at least not until the Season finale where they were "all in" on the wedding.

I liked how all this went down, though. Season 2 brought out more of the characters individually and it is best to get this out of the way ASAP. In a show about friendship involving a group, this can be naturally hard to do, but the developers did a masterful job at swooning us to come back for more episodes of season 2.

Now the wait for season 3 continues. My best guess is that they revert back to the "group idea" I was mentioning earlier, though they still could cut back to some individual episodes - perhaps for background characters other than say, Cheerilee or the CMC. Doctor Whooves is still in mind...

Hopefully the show won't stray too far from the mane six

It's good and all to see more depth to a certain characters. But sometimes other important character felt a little bit left out of the focus.

I think in season 2, they gave the responsibility to all mane 6 because everypony has things to learn about friendship and it allows the show to give more focus to other ponies besides Twilight. If that's the case, I don't think there's any reason to change it any further.

I actually hope it goes back to the way season 1 was. I much preferred it when the episodes focused more than solely one character. There were a lot of episodes in season 2 where most of the mane 6 didn't even make an appearance and I really didn't like that. I'm sure other people feel the same way.

This would be scrumpadoches! I want change, I love change! The show changes and that's another reason it's great. In other shows at the end nothing changes and gets sorted out 3 seconds. MLP uses this technique sometimes but lets change happen naturally.

Season 1: EPIC

Season 2: EPIC

I personally wouldn't mind it staying same, going back, making new, It's epic either way.

Yeah I don't see the logic in them passing it on to someone new. The mane 6 are the mane 6. Just because it changed from season 1 to season 2 doesn't mean that there's a pattern predicting it'll change again into season 3. It changed in season 2, because the mane 6 were always the main characters, but the show had only focused on Twilight doing the letters. Now, it's all of them doing letters. In short, it wasn't really 'passing it on to someone new', it was more 'passing it on to the same ponies who have been there the whole damn time'. There is still so much they could work with what they have, that switching that aspect would be kinda pointless in my opinion.

I don't think the letter writing will change much, it's fine the way it is imo(albeit a bit cheesy, but that part of the show is likely more intended for the supposed target demographic anyways). I would like to see a return to more of a group focus like the others here though.

I've said this before, but I'd love it if some of the background ponies *cough* DERPY!!!! *cough* got individual episodes as well. I figure it would work out best if the Mane 6 assisted in finding the solution, because that way (1) we'd still learn more about some of these background ponies, but (2) the Mane 6 would still have prominent roles in each episode. I mean, granted, most episodes still should focus on either the Mane 6 or CMC, but I'd love to see some variety and learn more about some of the other ponies in Ponyville! :)

I don't see why the responsibility would pass on to other than the mane six.
We'll probably see a few changes when the season comes, but I don't think they'll be changing the main characters.

Oh no, no, I don't think anybody's proposing changing the main characters; it's just, it'd be nice to see a couple of episodes focus on background ponies, to give the show some variety, ya know? And Scootaloo needs an episode, if only so I can finally know that she has parents and don't have to wonder whether or not she's actually an orphan and lives at the tree fort. Poor Scootaloo!!!! :(

It might not be the main characters in the series, but I still don't think that they'll change it to include background characters as main characters in single episodes.
Maybe in one or two episodes, but it's definitely not something I expect.

That said, the background characters are sure to have more of a role in season 3. I think the whole season if partly dedicated to bronies, so I think there'll be a lot of things, hidden messages, references. Stuff like Vinyl in the finale.

Hmmm, maybe! I could definitely see background ponies playing more prominent roles in subplots in each episode, which'd be awesome!!! :)

Ya, I'd like them to flesh out side characters like lyra and colgate, but I still want them to focus mostly on the mane 6.

Spike also wrote letters in S2 like in SomE and DQ. Come to think of it, I think he also wrote a letter in an episode from S1.

My guess is, in S3, it will be... the villains turn to write letters to Celestia. lol.
