Hi, I'm hupondroid.
I'm already a pretty good composer, http://soundcloud.com/hupondroid

But there's just this one thing that I can't seem to get the hang of. Dubstep.

I really like dubstep, and I would like to produce dubstep, but it would seem (I think) that my only limitation is that I don't know how.

So, got any resources I can learn from? Or any advice for a quasi-semi-newb?

Edit: I currently have (and use) FL Studio, with Native Instruments Komplete

You will need a program like FLStudio or Protools, after that just Google a tutorial on how to use it.

I'm already familiar with FL Studio. How else do you think i make music? No, what I need is more along the lines of, how do i use the tools i have to make dubstep, and what is it that makes good dubstep?

Honestly, what makes a good dubstep song depends on the maker, the audience and all those between. Everyone will like different things, its best to find your own particular style.

Umm making wise, you would have to use a synthesizer (like sytrus, wasp, 3x osc, etc) that allows you to manipulate a lfo (low-frequency oscillation). That makes the sound you are using "wobble" or "pulse" in a fashion dependant on the other settings ( speed, wavetype, filters).

I'm really bad at explaining and I'm more of a hands-on guy, but I tried lol. Hopefully its not too confusing and someone can explain it better.

"I'm already a pretty good composer"
Thats a pretty bold statement!

But I have trouble with dubstep, too. Except I wouldn't say I'm already a good composer.

Yeah, you're going to need a good plugin with built in LFO controllers. Sytrus has built in LFOs for basically everything you could ever want to control, and it can be synced to the tempo. I think you should hook up the LFO with the lowpass filter cutoff frequency if you want to make a wobble bass.

To get the buzz in it, add a distortion to the effects channel. (I use Fruity fast dist and Fruity blood overdrive to do that)

And like always, normalize!

I'm not an expert, though, so don't listen to me xD

good luck!
