Go visit the Royal Cantertlot Gardens if at all possible. I'll befriend Twilight and get her to get me in if I have to (we'll I'd befriend her anyway). Just to go around, and perhaps find some unsuspecting pony to have a severe argument with. Conveniently in front of Discord's statue.
Long story short become Discord's right-hand pony when he breaks out, and thanks me for letting him loose once again, and finds out I'm his biggest fan.

Why would you EVER want to go home? O.O Yeah sure, family friends blah, but...You would get to live. IN. PONYVILLE. Why would you want to go and ruin such an amazing and improbable thing?I'd go find Twilight Sparkle and ask for help. Then once she contacted Celestia we would try and figure out a way to send me home. If that doesn't work then I would ask to be turned into my OC.
Firstly, addressing the family and friends thing, seeing as I don't really have "friends" at least, any that would appreciate being turned into ponies, I would locate Twilight Sparkle and Princess Celestia and have them investigate bringing my hubby and adorable little son to Ponyville with me. Because I'll be honest, even living in Ponyville, if they're not there with me, it's totally not worth it. Even Pinkie Pie singing Smile Smile Smile to me constantly, handing me cupcakes and giving me hugs would not fix that hole. Assuming that they were of course awesome and successful in bringing them to Ponyville as well, I'd set up shop as a local chef (learning to cook with hooves would be interesting) and live happily ever after.

After getting acclimated, well, I don't know. I'm probably severely underestimating the effects of sudden long-term separation from home, but even if I could get sent back to this world I don't know if I would want to. I have a good life here, yes, and I'm generally quite a happy person, but that hasn't stopped me from pondering "what if?" What if I could start anew in another world?
To be honest, I would probably choose to stay. Such a choice would be made easier if I knew that I could return to our world at anytime, but if it was strictly a one-way trip I would most likely remain. Yes, I would feel bad about leaving people with no explanation of what happened to me, but such things fade with time.
Then I would just obtain my Equestrian citizenship (if such a thing existed), find a place to live, learn everything I could about my new home, and become a productive member of society. If I could be turned into a pony, great. If I had to stay a human, so what? I'd still be in Equestria, and either way it probably wouldn't be difficult to make friends, as no doubt everypony (including the Mane 6) would be exceptionally curious about the human/former human in their midst (Assuming they didn't find me disgusting/harbor any ill will toward me).
So yeah, I'd just keep on living life, working toward achieving love and happiness. Just as I intend to do in this world.
There's my two cents for ya

And what's the alternative? Living in a Garden of Eden-esque paradise, where having a job is only a suggestion, getting to piss around and do nothing 24/7, occasionally having the privilege of being a badass and saving the world, a world where everyone is pleasant and courteous, and no bickering about trivial matters. Hmph, who would want to live there?
*sarcasm*
Of course I would open the box! The only thing I would be miffed about is that there's no computers in Equestria, but I'd make do. I would choose to be a Pegasus (duh, look at the avatar, boopsy). I really have no ties to this world. I try to be as emotionally distant as possible so when all my friends and family die, I won't be too sad.
