A New Hope: Tech Team Reinforcements

Key Gear

Recommended Posts

For those that may not know, the MLP Forums techponies have been stretched pretty thin lately. Despite our most valiant efforts, the tech todo list continues to grow faster than we can finish things up. In addition to this, the ongoing maintenance required to keep MLP Forums online and running smoothly can sometimes be remarkably time-consuming.

No matter how efficient we are, the fact remains that we have had two techponies for a forum of over 10,000 members, and unfortunately, we cannot devote ourselves entirely to the site. Feld0 has to contend with school and other obligations. I, myself, have to contend with a job that typically doesn't leave me with much energy at the end of the day. While we can pull an all nighter to solve major issues, pulling all nighters to solve every single issue that comes up is simply not practical due to our other obligations.

With all of that said, despite our resource constraints, we have actually been doing a remarkable amount of activity. Behind the scenes, we have been making steady progress towards completing some exciting new developments for the community. These developments are things that are going to dramatically improve the overall experience for members of MLP Forums, but they take time to pull off - time and energy.

Up until this point, all of this activity still drew from the same, limited pool of resources. But... No longer. Now, we are adding reinforcements. Some of you may have noticed the addition of two new community stewards. Don't worry, there is no conspiracy taking place. Allow me to introduce the ponies that are going to be helping us to build the greatest MLP discussion site online.

@

Lavoaster has worked with us in the past to build a number of hooks and features for MLP Forums. He is comfortable with IP.Board and site styling, and he is now on board to help us out with keeping MLP Forums cross-browser compatible, working on top secret projects, stomping bugs, and creating more cool features for members to enjoy. In fact, since coming on board, he has already dealt with a rather tedious issue (the navigation buttons should no longer cover the notifications and login fields in certain browsers).

@,

Neikos is the author of the MLP Forums chrome extension, and he is an experienced webmaster with development experience across a variety of programming languages. He is here to aid us in ironing out imperfections, working on top secret projects, and building cool things. He's actually already digging into a fairly substantial project that will be of great interest to quite a few members when it is revealed at a later time.

It's my hope that all of you will happily welcome our new additions to the staff! Thanks to them, I may be able to get just a bit more sleep, and MLP Forums will continue to improve, at a greater speed than before.

:)

Drink up me hearties yo ho~

Glad to hear that now we have more tech admins. I wonder what's that top secret project could be.

Fair winds for the tech team on developing this great community forum.

Network traffics always give me more headache than programming stuff.

Glad to hear that now we have more tech admins.

Community Stewards, not Tech Admins ^^ These two are going to be the assistants of Scoots and Feld0 by helping develop codes and such for the forum and its' branches, they're not spearhead System Admins like Felidicorn and the turkey. Ascending to that rank is incredibly difficult and takes a lot of trust and a lot of skill. Plus, we don't particularly need more actual Sys Admins anyway, most sites only have one. Scoots and Feld0 just need some help with certain aspects that alleviate their workload, and a simpler sand box to play in ;)

Never have I been so wrong.

I guess you're right. Need a lot of skill and trust. The most recent time I tried to help my friend with his website, I was scared to change any single thing without his permission. For those new Community Stewards, I wish you a good chance to proof your skill and may ascend to a higher rank. If that's permitted of course.

In this case, I assume that MLP Forums is like a double-ended spear.

P.S. Or a spear with two branches and two blades in one edge. More gustas.

Sounds like a good change! Hopefully these new community stewards will do their job as effectively as they can!( I have no doubt they can :) )

It's a good thing to hear that there will be less put on Feld0 and Keygear's shoulders!

Good luck to the new community stewards lavoaster and Neikicorn! Best of luck with your new positions, I hope both of you do your best to make the mlp forums even better off!

Can we still blame Scatcoal for site derps and shutdowns? That's a top priority, someone being the scapegoat.

Haha

I think it's great that you guys are trying to add things to the site that will make the experience better for us. And I'm glad Neikos is in doing some stuff too. But guyysss I've waited 100 years for that mlp forums mobile app :o

Also I wonder what that top secret project is..

This is good to know. Must be hard to manage such an ever-growing site. I began programming in school about 6 months ago and find one program a struggle. How you devs keep this site up is a mystery, but thanks.

Very stupendous news! It is really good to have more help with graphics, and programming on a site that is getting more popular by each passing minute, and maybe ~CD~ must be swimming in a pool of fun and chaos.

Scootacool's sanity has been lost due to the plethora of tech work he receives on a daily basis plus his job.

Impressive, though. It's not everyday you see a muffin-ranked member be promoted to Community Steward -- just goes to show you that a badge isn't necessarily indicative of one's smarts. :)

Congratulations on your new positions guys. (if you read this lol)

Now you'll have no time to sleep or have a life be able to make the forums a better place! :)

When all else fails, blame the chicken.

It's nice to hear that you two can get some damn rest, though.  I'm excited to see what two new code runners can help accomplish.  Not to mention the

things you guys have in store.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well, glad to hear that our Feldian Overlord and favorite alien chicken now have some handy dandy assistants to help them out.  Maybe now old Scoots will get to get some shuteye in the ol' chicken coop (and no, I'm not going to stop with the chicken puns, it's too much fun!  ^_^ ).  Congratulations to Lavoaster and Neikifly!  :D
