How many ATHEIST bronies out there?

Guest

Recommended Posts

Well seeing as there's a thread about Christian bronies, I think it's only fair we have an atheist brony thread! So, how many of you reject all that religious non-sense?

I'm an Athiest/Anti-Thiest... meaning that i not only do not believe in a god, i try to be as active in stopping religion as possible. Although i try to love all people, whether they are religious or not... the religion can cause them to do some messed up things...

So as i like to say... "Hate the religion, NOT the person."

I try to keep these things out of MLP forums, because this place is so kind, i don't want it to dissolve into pure hatred of people.

I'm an atheist, yes.

But i do respect other people's religions thoughts as-well though.

The only reason i don't believe in religion is the way my life has been going.

I know, its a stupid reason. But i don't think believing in any religion will help me and my problems.

The only religion i believe in, is sleeping and doughnuts.

Well, I'm not atheist, I am agnostic. And yes, there is a difference. happy.png

In the spoiler is a detail of what kind of agnostic I am. It's a bit dry, so feel free to skip it.

A blend of Apathetic Agnosticism, Spiritual Agnosticism and Ignosticism.

That is to say:
1) The question of and indeed nature of God is poorly defined and so the question cannot be answered (Ignosticism).
2) By this and examination of the history of the debate of God, the existence thereof has no meaningful impact on my life (Apathetic Agnosticism).
3) Ensuring that my acts are, simply put, good, is a better focus for my energy than the search for God (Spiritual Agnosticism).

I agree with that, and i support your doughnuts and sleeping.

I would say the only reason why i'm not religious in the sense of "god exists" is because the bible, torah, qu'ran don't provide the evidence i find sufficient to make me believe.

However, even if God came down to earth and said... "Eeyup... i exist," i'd say "screw athiesm, i'm with you," but i'd still not support the hackneyed, lying, spoiled christian church or anything of that nature.

I try to tolerate all though, thats how i became a brony =)

I'm a rather firm atheist, I don't think anything could really change that. But I do like learning about religions' because religion itself shows you a lot about how we as human beings think and act. I do think though that the future will be a totally secular one, but sadly I might not get too see it. Maybe my grand kids will tongue.png

p.s

A really good book I just read was Daniel Dennett's "Breaking the Spell" and loved it! recommend it to believers and non believers alike!.

I am agnostic to the point of the 'floating teapot'. I will never declare something as proof of, or against any theory. There is nothing definite  but you won't catch me walking off a cliff hoping gravity is wrong.

Hmm, the athiest belief purely states that the ONLY reason we don't believe in a god is because we don't have enough proof.

Hence forth, we don't have the burden of proof in proving that he does or doesn't exist, we just don't believe until he is proven to exist. So i think you may be more athiest than you may think =)

I find agnostics believe in something "higher power-ish" or spiritual about the world...

I find the billions stars, tons of galaxies, and nebulas to be more fascinating then a book about god. I find the beauty of the unknown slowly unraveling for us to feast on to be extremely liberating and exciting. I would hate knowing that there is a path for me in life, i would like to be the one carving it, not some teapot/god/diety.

You're right, I base my beliefs off proof and for religion there really is none. I say this because in truth, the bible was written by man, not god. Another reason I'm athiest is that the church likes to put down scientific improvement, example being the dark ages, which could lead to the saving and improving of billions of lives.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll see religion going away anytime soon. If it does I won't be around to see it. It's far too ingrained our culture as a whole.

I always like a good read, my favorite auther when it comes to religion is Christopher Hitchens.

I suggest you read "God is not great", its fascinating and at times hilarious.

This guy is a riot, he doesn't just talk about religion, of course, but if you look through his uploaded videos it won't be long until you find one talking about it.

Yea, I'm talking waay in the future lol. And Religion itself will never go away I mean like the nation under god stuff. Secular morality will be of more concern then religious morality. The numbers are shifting a little more everyday. Still way more theists then atheists for sure, but over time, a lot could happen ;) (ah? see what I did there? img-1369822-1-UNZJLhS.png )

Exactly, and you know... the church supported hitler... till 1960 ( i know i didn't believe it till i read about it), it also actively covers up child molestation to sustain its image. I'm not saying EVERYONE there is bad... but the majority is pretty god damn corrupt, and pope benedict blamed the holocaust on Agnostics and Athiests...even though hitler made every nazi wear "With god we walk" or something to that extent on their SS patches.

It's generally pretty bad, and i get pretty heated when talking about it... i apologize.

I'll tell you what I believe: I believe in beauty, I believe in life and I believe that they are one in the same. I believe in laughter. I believe that I will never stop learning and growing. I believe that there are no answers.

And, I believe that I must Pony All The Things..

Generally speaking I consider myself an atheist. However, just as I find someone who declares that:

a.) They know there is a god.

b.) They know what that god wants.

Pretentious - not to offend, every-pony is welcome to their beliefs - I would never declare that I KNOW there is no god. However, like gravity, there is pretty strong evidence to the contrary of an intelligent designer.

I'd only postulate that "there is no god" because of how the bible contradicts EVERYTHING that scientists have worked hard to prove.

I'm almost sure that there is no god, and if there is, its a 1/ 1,000,000 if not more chance that he is real, because there's equal chance of zeus, hades, and appollo to be real, than the christian god, and, there are the still to be invented gods of the future, there are so many possibilities... But i digress, i can't prove that he does or doesn't exist.

I'm an atheist as well... but I don't know how good of an idea this thread is on a forum website with a diverse community.

See, I don't know how this conversation will turn out, but most atheist discussions I've witnessed involved negative criticisms on religions. While I do believe that criticism is a good thing as it challenges one's own mindset and gets the gears turning... People may get offended by potential conversations.

Usually I wouldn't care if people get offended about the criticism that some atheists toss at others, but I dunno, I am just not a fan of these sorts of conversations in the brony community because it gives potential for people to divide themselves into "them" and "us" groups. This is why I dislike the Christianity thread. I kinda like staying united as a community... it's the only one I've ever felt truly welcome in. I feel like if we define ourselves by our religious stances instead of our bronyhood, then we may lose some of the tight-knit qualities.

But I digress. You guys have fun :). I don't think I'll be participating here though. But brohoofs to all my atheists! See you around!

Oh trust me, I know how you feel. I used to get basically shunned by the majority of my class for being athiest and when they do start asking questions about it, they're too biased to see my points. One thing I thought about before was, "Why have church buildings?", to me they are a waste of resources and you could get a better sense of "God" in what he "created" and pray to a tree.

Haha, i think i'm slowly but surely taking over this thread... so i might stop after this... But i do like that comment. However, that doesn't address a higher power, infact, you'd also have to believe that : "There was a massive flood that flooded the entire world killing all of civilization and animals (except fish for some reason), also, that a man split the red sea, and burning bush... etc. etc. It's all illogical, and i'd support it if it promoted a kind message, yet it seems to promote the message of "god will literally torture you for eternity if you don't do what he says," free will is a joke in the eyes of a orthodox christian because if god already knows what you will do, whats the point of free will?

Well I won't let that happen. This thread is merely for talking about your personal secular beliefs and your opinion on a/theism. It's not a place to argue which side is right, that's a topic for another day.

I'm an Atheist. Though I only bring it up in discussions involving religion, or if someone asks me.

I just don't see the evidence of a god.

I have nothing against Christians or any other religion, but the ones who bash other people for their choices really anger me. As well as the ones who think their praying saves people.

It's a nice gesture and all, but there's people saying that their prayers caught the Boston bombing suspects, not the efforts of the police. Others were saying that it's "a sign from god" and the people killed were meant to die.

The Westboro Baptist Church really gets on my nerves though, I gotta say.

As you allude to, there are more holy books than just the bible - King James v - and it is by combining the approach of each of these books, we see that they are more of an anthropological study of their respective writers, and less divine intervention. As of this moment, I can claim there is a blue-footed purple giraffe, hiding under a rock in the back of a Red Lobster. While you could not disprove me, there is a high probability I am wrong or lying.

The important thing to take away here is that you can not disprove me, and I can never prove it. While I would never devote any serious attention to the finding of this beast, I would never declare with 100% certainty that it does not exist.

Firstly, i completely agree with all you said my fellow pony-friend.

However, wouldn't you agree that although you can't say its 100% false, you can logically come to the conclusion of, because science is demonstrable, and points to this, instead of the bible, then i'd think the god in the bible is less likely to come out to exist rather than lets say... the theory of evolution or black holes.

Don't get me started on the WBC... my blood BOILS when i hear about those, i tolerate people, infact, i tolerated and found bronies to be very nice before i became one...

Although WBC doesn't actively physically hurt people, i seriously do not understand their place on this earth, i truthfully, without a doubt in mind, and with every atom, quark, and electron in my body, hate. those. pricks.
