Well, most of you have seen the trailer for Equestria Girls and already decided your opinions on it. But I want to know what you guys think of what looks like Twilight's love interest. Post what you think below.

Well, first off, I just want to hope that for all that is good in this world that the love interest character isn't a generic stereotypical perfect boy character we see in a lot of TV shows nowadays.

Now that I've said that, I would like to give some more opinion on it. Knowing the writers behind MLP: FiM, we know that they are very capable of making "3-dimensional" memorable unique characters, so I hope that they do the same with this character. Also, I hope that this love interest doesn't mess up the character of Twilight and make her act stupid, out of character, lovey-dovey, or too girly (Notice how I said "too"). But this has potential. My personal theory it that they probably look into something about him being a human and her actually being a pony, but we don't know the whole story of EG so I can't confirm anything. He too might even be a pony which would possibly mean he would carry over to the show.

Well, that is all I have to say. Post your opinions about him below.

I honestly don't care a whole lot for it, I'm not terribly confident in it being pulled off right.

I do have a feeling that something along the lines of what you described will happen, but I don't want him to carry over to their world, sorry but I don't really want anything from EqG to carry over to the show, just so anything that happens that makes it bad won't affect the show.

And if its good we get a good movie thingy.

Of all the bad things I saw in that trailer, (and trust me, I saw a ton) nothing was more discouraging to me than seeing Twilight have a love interest. One of the best things about MLP was that romance is almost never addressed, except to make fun of shippers. (Heart's and Hooves Day) This kept the show fresh and avoided the rut of romance that many shows fall into. With Twilight having a love interest in what is already a trite and run-of-the-mill story line, all the pieces are in place for a lackluster, embarrassing, cliche movie. Twilight's love interest was just the straw that broke the pony's back for me.

While I am trying my best to not doubt the writers, I have yet to see anything for Equestria Girls that I like. Which makes it hard to be optimistic. I'm going to see it in theaters and give it the chance it deserves, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

And that character is one of the things that worries me. If it's handled well, it'll be okay. But again, nothing I've seen so far inspires confidence in me, so I personally have no reason to think that it will be handled well.

I'm not watching it anyways...

Personally, pink, blue, orange, yellow, and purple skin are huge turn offs for me. They look too... Different to fit in with humans and thus they would be spotted easily.

On topic, I already have been turned off. Having a boy thrown in would make it much worse... Imagine if they did this with MLP itself. It would be terrible.

As I've already said before, I'm betting that if he isn't some generic Gary Sue, then he's an incubus. I just think it would make so much sense that he would first seem to be the perfect guy, then turn out to be a deceptive villain.

Though, of course, maybe I'm just overthinking it. But still, I can imagine that happening. I honestly don't think the writers would throw in a handsome jock cliche, to be honest. Perhaps I'm just being a bit too optimistic, but hey.

How typical...Twilight starts high school and of course there has to be some generic "cute boy" that Twilight likes. I thought this show would be more original than that...

I actually kind of like your theory. It would be pretty interesting. But it seems a bit too similar to (fake) Cadence actually being a villain, Chrysalis, and I don't know if the writers want to do something like that again. But there are also quite a few differences between the two meaning that it is possible.

Personally I feel if they want to keep the tone they have, this "love interest" will probably just be friend zoned.

Not quite that way but I don't see them going all out with giving her a true romantic interest. I can imagine it being something like this

"She's leaving that world"

Twi: Thank You *insert guys name here* for helping me with all of this

*guy* no problem, just come back and visit ok?

Twi:ok

Obviously this is a terrible dialog exchange but I'm just using it to make a point.

Doing something in this tone would let them keep a connection, without flat out going yep that's her boyfriend now.

Leave it to Twilight to friend-zone the poor guy.

But yeah, I can see this happening as well. It makes a bit more sense in the context of the show like you said.

It's actually an antro rule63 milkmare.

Look. The yellow kind of skin, the blue and white hair style. It's milkmare. (If you don't know who she is, don't look her up unless you're ok with a bit of r34)

The entire trailer leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Seriously, everything about it screams lazy high school cliche.

That trailer (Especially the part about the love interest) has pretty much sucked out all optimism I had about this movie/show.

I agree with people here Twilight having a love interest just dosen't sound right to me beside shes a pony and he's human that just makes it really creepy.

As for him going into FiM I really hope not as Windy Runner said it was something that I liked about MLP was that they weren't tiring to find a BF and things like that. But either way isn't this non-canon?

Mind you, there's no guarantee he's an actual 'love interest'. Given that he sounds like Shining Armour (dunno if it's the same voice actor or not, not enough in the clip to be sure), there's a good chance she'll latch on to him as a brother figure instead.

There really isn't enough in the clip to know what exactly is going on. It's *suggested* that he's the stereotypical handsome jock to be won by the awkward girl trope, mainly because that entire trailer is troping so hard I'm surprised it's not flat on it's own face. blink.png

The writers have proven that they *can* get out of that kind of mess, if they put their minds to it.

We don't know if it will be canon or not as I have not seen anything regarding it. If anyone has anything on this, please leave a link. I'm pretty sure it will be non-canon, but there is always the possibility. I personally don't really want him to carry over to show. I don't really want any relationships for the Mane 6 until maybe after the show ends and in the life that isn't shown in the actual show. But I may actually like the love interest too. I haven't seen it, so I will try to be careful on judging it too harshly.

I'm not really a fan of the love interest since, this has been done before on high school sitcoms and high school shows. The only difference, is it is from a fictional land called Equestria and that is a humanized pony.

The trailer might say it is a love interest, but maybe in the movie it might not actually be one. But anyway, it might not make since because even though it is in a high school Twilight isn't usually the one to actually fall in love.

Ha! Had another thought. We didn't see a Cadance anthro in that clip. I wonder if there's  subplot where Twilight tries to get this Shining-act-alike to hook up with a Cadance-act-alike...

At first I thought her love interest was supposed to be Soarin, partly because of his hair, and the lightening bolt on his t-shirt. However, I'm not so sure anymore, because it just doesn't make sense to me... He's probably just some random new guy...

Either way, I wasn't very happy about seeing a potential love interest...

I feel like Twilight is too young to worry about crap like that. I understand that hormonal teenagers are raging, and that it's inevitable to happen in high school, but I feel like it's unnecessary.

One of the things I love about MLP:FiM is the lack of focus on romance (besides Spike's crush on Rarity, and Cadence + Shining Armor) ...That's just my opinion though... I don't really want the mane 6 to ever have boyfriends... or girlfriends... *looks at Rainbow Dash* dry.png

I just had a rather interesting thought. You know how Luna and Celestia rule over Equestria together and Shining Armor and Cadence rule over the Crystal Empire? Well, Twilight is a princess now which means she may be given a character for her and, well you know. This is where he comes in.

I highly doubt this will happen and I don't really want it to, but I felt this would be worth mentioning. Just another theory.

That is a very interesting opinion, I never thought about that... That definitely does make sense now that I think about it. Hmmmm...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this.  I honestly think it's just supposed to be Shining Armor.  Blue hair, same voice, lighter skin.  It adds up much better than a stupid love interest.

I'm cool with it as much as I love Twi lol JK XD. Anyway, it could be a love interest or not. We have to wait to see the entire thing. Whether a crush or not, I don't mind at all. @Fhaolan is right. I'm looking foward to the movie to see what happens :)

Oh yeah and have a brohoof /)

Everything about this is just......horrible. Any one of the mane 6 having a love interest is a terrible idea, and the fact that Twilight's love interest is a generic jock type just makes this whole situation much worse than it already was. A "dorky", introverted character like Twilight and a character like this just doesn't work at all. If ANYTHING, Twilight would be best off having another studious, acedemic type as a love interest, and even that should never, ever be done.

He's the humanized version of that yellow pony behind the guards at 0:06 in the trailer, I think. This could mean that this love interest thing carries over to the main series.

Not sure how to feel...
