Will EQGs be better than the G1 Movie?

Even though I am not a big fan of the previous generations, I think I will say... No it won't. EqGirls doesnt look like anything special to me, while the G1 movie actually is pretty cool haha and with cool evil people

I haven't seen either so I can't judge, and I don't think anyone else can say that EQG is better or worse yet since the actual movie isn't even out yet >.< 

But seriously, no one is forcing you to watch EQG lol...

I can't really put in my two cents because, I haven't seen EQG since it didn't come out yet. Not a lot of people like the G1 generation but, sometimes movies from the past tend to be successful.

I'm going to say no. The G1 movie was awful, to be sure, but it was awful in that 80's/early-90's way in which every crazy idea could find a home, no matter how stupid it was. It was memorable because it was completely unafraid to embrace absurdity, which ensured that there were things one was capable of remembering about it.

 

EG, from what I can see, has completely shunned absurdity. It seems determined to do away with any vestige of it's roots and a be a to-be-taken-seriously High School movie that sticks to it's paint-by-numbers plot. It may well rise above it's premise, but I see no signs of that so far.

Regardless of what we think of non-FiM projects like Equestria Girls and the inevitable G5.

I think that the age of G1-3 quality writing is dead. Hasbro is smart enough to know that raising the standards has done nothing but increase the value of the brand.

 

I'm not expecting FiM caliber stuff but I don't it will be outright bad. I'm expecting a decent "Cute girls in high school" comedy ala Lucky Star or Azumanga Daioh.

 

Dolls suck though but that's focus groups fault.

The G1 movie had two things going for it, the antic of the bad guys and, of course, the smooze (btw, that was the greatest non-G4 MLP song EVER!).  Everything else about that movie was just mediocre, to dull.  So Equestria Girls doesn't have a very big hill to climb in my opinion.  The latest trailer alone tells me that it's going to be better than the G1 movie.

Now that I watched it, it's difficult. In my opinion EQG was better than the show itself, but the G1 Movie was just as good as the G1 show, so I can't decide.

This is a really interesting question. If Rainbow Rocks executes the Sunset Shimmer arc well enough, my entire view of the Equestria Girls might be positively influenced (that spillover effect is pretty common for me in film and literature). Right now there are elements of both the first G1 film, and the EQG film that I enjoy.  I do want to give the slight edge to RaMC, but knowing that both RR and EQG are plot connected films now means that I can't answer this question ... not yet anyway.

Can't say, as I haven't watched any G1 cartoon nor movie, but comparing them is kinda silly, since the G1 is about thwarting the plans of bad guys from start to finish, and EG is less frenetic and adventurous. Not to mention the time of each, G1 is over 20 years old
