What Were Some Flaws You Saw In Equestria Girls? Thread.

**NOTE: THIS THREAD CONTAINS SPOILERS, SO IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE, DO NOT SCROLL ANY FURTHER.**

Hello everypony, the point of this thread is to discuss some flaws you might have spotted while watching Equestria Girls.

Well, I will start off with a flaw I saw.

Towards the end of the movie, Sunset Shimmer threatens to break the mirror/portal to Equestria with a sledge hammer. However, pretty much anything can go through the portal, so wouldn't the sledge hammer go through the portal as well?

What were some flaws you found?

Not sure if a flaw or horrible plot hole but how did sunset know about the layout of the crystal empire if it was gone for 1000 years, I also might be over thinking it

Uhm..... I didn't really see any other flaws besides the one you just pointed out. All I'll say is that Rarity looks like an actualy human and so does Fluttershy because their skin colo is almost natural. :3 They just have pink and purple hair XD

Correct me if I'm wrong but weren't the elements of harmony like a old story to Twilight in th first episode that she had to research, how did Sunset know everything about them then? I may be wrong on this one not too sure gonna have to rewatch the first episode

and if that aint a flaw i didn't spot Cloud Chaser human flaw.... even if she was there

I really liked the movie, a lot more than I had wanted to at first.  The only problems I saw in it were that all the girls seemed to be wearing really really really short skirts and pants.  Know I know that its popular today to wear that crap but It did feel weird seeing all the characters wearing that.  Also the whole Sunset-Demon thing at the end was a bit out of place, if they just gave her wings then that would be fine.  Also the mind control thing, where did that come from!?  But other than those, not really anything else.

The ending just didn't seem to fit, and felt rushed. If they had added a little more thought, and extended the length of the film, they could have given it some more fluidity. The musical numbers could have been more evenly spaced as well.

What I don't get is HOW SUNSET SHIMMER COULD CONTROL THE ELEMENT OF MAGIC?!

If freakin Celestia said she and Luna couldn't do it anymore to defeat Discord, how could a simple pony turn into A DEMON because of it!!

Oh and I didn't see BON BON!! She's seen in almost every episode of the show and for some reason they totally forgot her here. Plus I can't choose between two girls which is Lyra. They both have her mane colors but one has long hair and one has short hair. I'm thinking the short haired one, but I think she has a different eye color, and I didn't see a lyre anywhere on her clothes. The girl with long hair had her eyes but had a sunflower on her clothes. I'M SO CONFUSED!!

Oh nelly, where to even begin????  Well, seeing as I'd rather not be redundant, I'm just gonna refer you to the blog post I wrote reviewing "Equestria Girls" instead:

http://mlpforums.com/blog/1009/entry-5598-batbrony-reviews-equestria-girls/

NOTE: I DID actually enjoy the experience of watching the movie itself; it entertained me and I laughed plenty of times throughout.  That said, I cannot conscientiously say that this was, objectively, a good film, and if you read my blog post you'll see my reasoning behind that judgment.

Some flaws I saw were that most of the girls were wearing skirts, which is.. pretty awkward since they were short. Also, I think Sunset should've pointed out what actually happens when you bring a element into a alternate dimension, so Twilight would've tried harder.

There are WAY too many to count. Equestria Girls has more than a dozen flaws, and some of them are extremely gigantic, making this film objectively bad. Some include:

  1. The entire film was extremely rushed. Many of season three's episodes's biggest flaw was the pace, and EQG is no exception. In a seventy-minute film, so much information was crammed into one small package. This movie had no time to calm down, breathe, and genuinely explore all of the ideas and subplots. This movie should've been at least twenty minutes longer to make it work.
  2. Many of the Human Five were in character, but only in character. Great characterization is both in-character and three-dimensional characterization simultaneously. Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash had very predictable lines, resulting in predictable characterization. Rainbow Dash, for example, had extremely limited vocabulary.
  3. Snips and Snails are atrociously out of character. These two characters may be dimwitted, but they're innocent. (There's a reason why Twilight used the mustache spell on their pony counterparts: Twilight knew they didn't mean to cause trouble and wanted to cheer them up.) In EQG, they're villains.
  4. Vice Principal Luna, for a character whose intelligence was supposed to replicate her alicorn counterpart, is an idiot. Any vice principal with an once of intelligence would immediately recognize the blatant cutout on the image and consider even the thought of interrogating Twilight a waste of her time. The interrogation scene was purposeless and extremely cringeworthy.
  5. Sunset Shimmer is a terrible villain. She's supposed to replicate genius, pride, greed, and stubbornness. Instead, we have a villain who had no purpose for going into the human world in the first place and has extremely stupid plans. Her teenage army is a bunch of baloney because these teens aren't transformed. Just zombies. Celestia, Luna, and the rest of the crew would've sent them back where they came from.

This is just a few. I have plenty more flaws to discuss in my review for the movie here.

Not realy a flaw more of a nit pick on this one, season 3 finale Twilight flies just fine(btw look at cadance's hair during the cornation it magicaly changes from royal crstal empire hair inside to her normal hair when she got outside) and in the movie she has many problems with em, like i said more knit picking

I thought it was hard to believe that no one went through that mirror by mistake, it's out in the open after all. (unless someone mentioned that). Also to many songs but that's just IMO

Edit: Not really flaws because people pretty much took em all (that I could think of)

Sunset Shimmer was Celestia's apprentice, once. It's likely that she just learned about them through Celestia's training.

The biggest flaw for me was that Twilight didn't just ask for her crown back from Celestia. Instead, she decided to run for the Fall Formal and do something that would take a lot more time and effort than if she'd simply asked for it back.

Logic = Broken

The ponies transitioning into teenage girls I thought was a mistake, because I had always thought of them as being in the 18-24 age range.

However, I don't think the movie was that terrible. At-least they had some nice nods to the fans like the Trixie human and the DJ one too.

The movie was entertaining but, like every movie in history there are usually some flaws found in the movie itself minus serial movies.

The flaw that I saw in the movie was, the Cutie Mark Crusaders in high school even though they aren't in the age range of someone going to high school. I know I'm nitpicking but, I had to bring that up.

I don't like being redundant, so something "new", at least in here.

Flash Sentry.

I don't even know how I'm supposed to express my opinion on that character.

Generic, poorly characterized, quasi-deus-ex-machina-user. Ugh. Terrible. Horrible. It's not even about the whole flirt-thingy in general, it's simply the way it is presented and the lack of depth of this guy.

What? Love at first sight? Hmm... "valid" point. But come on. Forced blushing sequences. "Nerdy-girl" Twilight gets the Mr-good-looking. Cliche.

He didn't even express the justified suspicions he simply had to have about Sunset Shimmer being the one who made up those shopped images.

He was just awful. That's how I see it.

I agree with most people here but I have my own, at the beginning why was Twilight so amazed at the Crystal Empire throne room? She's been in there more then once. It's not because of the horns and the guards she should be used to that. I don't know why but that really bugged me.

You know, I didn't overally hate EG, which is a minor disclaimer since I'm just gonna stick to my issues with the film here.

My biggest issue? Well, as others have said, I hated the character designs. The art style and well developed designs was what first drew me into the series. But with the exceptian of Rarity and Fluttershy, no one else felt like the characters we've been following for three seasons. I could never see Rainbow Dash and Applejack wearing skirts. It just made that element feel so lazy and quickly hashed together. They all felt too samey looking to me.

I also didn't like Sunset Shimmer. Not because she was a generic high school bully, but because she was just wasted potential. A former apprentice of Celestia? One whose been watching Twilight Sparkle all this time? One who has a strong magical knowledge about Equestria and feels jaded by her lack of alicornhood? Those are all great things to build an interesting villian off of! But nope, didn't happen. We just got the generic bad guy with generic (and rushed) reformation at the end. Lazy.

And finally, the plot. Now, don't get me wrong, I didn't dislike it because of the generic high school plot. But the fact I felt like I was watching the pilot all over again. The scene between Fluttershy and Twilight Sparkle meeting as humans? That didn't feel like a throwback to me, it felt blatant copy and paste. A lot of the beginning parts felt that way. The added twist of the Mane Five being former friends driven apart by Shimmer was a nice twist, but not enough for me to feel like I was watching something new.

So yeah, my basic problems boil down to wasted potential. They had so many good base concepts here and it just felt like they didn't develop them enough.

....god that's a giant wall o' text, probs to anyone who reads all that

My main thought was being surprised that much of the movie was a remake of the pilot. I mean you could have replaced Sunset with Nightmare Moon and called it a day. The ending was the same including the contrite "I'm so sorry..yadda yadda" at the end. Now I still really enjoyed the movie, so I guess it doesn't matter what plot holes exist.

Well where is the fun in doing that? :P there has to be at least some sort of plot. lol

The only problems I saw in it were that all the girls seemed to be wearing really really really short skirts and pants.

Some flaws I saw were that most of the girls were wearing skirts, which is.. pretty awkward since they were short.

Nothing wrong with that from my point of view. More appropriate than wearing yoga pants.

Sunset shimmer turning into a demon was uncalled for, caught me off guard. A demon like her doesn't seem to fit right with this type of show.

This movie had many flaws, and like i've mentioned before, im sure Hasbro wanted to make a quick buck from this movie, hence the lazy script writing, short and predictable plot.

Plus they took to long to show Rarity, that kinda bugged me...........

I still liked the movie though

I think they had a missed opportunity with the fight Twilight's human friends had.  It wrapped up a bit too nicely IMHO.  I felt that whole sequence could have been taken a whole lot further, especially if they wanted to contrast the closeness they shared in the poniverse or even in their own universe before Sunset Shimmer showed up.

Well overall I didn't notice or pay attention to alot of plot holes, I guess i'm a pretty shallow thinker, maybe thats why I'm so easily impressed by stuff, because I don't really dig deep and just enjoy the good parts mostly I guess.

However there is a few flaws with the movie, despite me enjoying it.

First of all, I think Sunsets conversion was rushed, it felt weird to, like her reasoning didn't really add up to me exactly, I suppose I can somewhat rationalize the fact she'd have a change of heart after realizing what she'd been doing, and have one of those"Wow did i really do all this?" moments, but her reason didn't solidify well to me. Probably my biggest complaint on the movie.

I suppose overall the movie did have a bit of a rushed feel in it, could've used some more time to maybe develop Flash sentry a bit. Aswell as other stuff just being slower paced, maybe I just like seeing more MLP, but I could've gone for having it be 1 1/2 hour movie, and I mean technically as a movie they have no huge time limit. So I feel maybe they could've got away with adding more in to help slow things down a little. It didn't for the most part feel that rushed, but it had moments. Small complaint that didn't bother me much mostly.

Um, I really can't think of much else, I think besides this stuff I didn't notice much else I found a flaw in the movie. I enjoyed the movie overall regardless, so whatever I guess :P.

(Stongly opinionated)

If you ask me, the whole movie was a flaw.  Why does it seem like everyone is accepting it when it was, IMO, sub-par?
