Have you ever come close to death?

Well my question is pretty much as straight forward as the topic title. Im really interested to see if anypony here has ever had an experience where they came close to dying before. Also, If you have never come close to dying, do you know anypony who has come close to dying before? :o

===EDIT===

I dont know why I decided to edit this in to so late but, since everypony has been sharing their near death experience, I feel that I should share mine as well.

Well I have had two near death experiences. The first time was when I was very young, about 5 or 6 years old.  I remember that it was when I was at my older cousins birthday party and my aunt had made a entire tray of some kinda waffle cookie. And as we all know when your younger hear about waffles and cookies you automatically assume their good to eat.  So... my younger self ate about half the tray...lol. These cookies contained black licorice in it, and there is some kind of ingredient in black licorice that Im allergic to. My throat became itchy and swelled shut. I told my aunt and they rushed me to the hospital where I got a shot to get rid of the swelling. I get the feeling that if I hadn't said anything when I did well... you know...

The second time isn't really as long of a story as the first time. About a year and a half ago I was crossing an intersection while coming home from school.  Some idiot who obviously  wasn't paying attention a red light as I was in the middle of the street. The car came so close to hitting me that I could feel the wind and heat from the engine exhaust on my face. I nearly peed my self that day...

~Anyway sorry for the edited repost but, I really do appreciate how may replies I have gotten on this topic, its really interesting to hear about all of your crazy stories. ^_^

I have come close to dying a few times. This one time, I was almost hit by a car when in a parking lot. The person was speeding and didn't step on the brakes. This other time I almost drowned in my own pool. I was underwater and got stuck there because my brother held me under. Looking back on those times, I wish I was hit by that car or drowned. Would have been better that way.

I have had a couple of near-death experiences. When I was six years old I was watching some television and eating some fast food. For some reason I took the lid off of my juice and started drinking it that way. One way or another the ice-cube was stuck in my throat and I could't breath. My dad helped me to the bathroom kitchen where I drank a lot of hot water and it melted. Another near-death experience occurred within the last four years. I can't remember exactly when, but I though it was a good idea to sit on this tree-house in the woods. After a few minutes I fell from the high perch and hit the ground. A board with a nail hit my leg, and one came close to hitting my head.

Well,

  • One time I was in my sister's car and it was Winter, right? Well...we're we crossing the train tracks and as it turns out, the blockage that would be used to stop a car from crossing when a train was there was frozen and wouldn't go down. We didn't know that. So, we crossed the tracks and the train was only several feet away from us and nearly got hit before my sister hit the gas pedal severely and drove past in time.
  • Later that same day, I was in my father's car and we were driving along the regular road when this random car nearly crashed into us.
  • One time I was at this pool party with cousins and such. I was in the pool and one of my cousins dunked in and started playfully drowning me. He had to be yelled at to get him to stop. I don't trust anyone because of shit like that, especially family.
  • Not really sure if I would call it near death, but some moron sprayed that white gas stuff from a fire extinguisher into the hallway (I live in an apartment with my parents) and the gas leaked into the vents into the apartments. My parents were gone at that time and I accidentally started breathing in the powder and I started gagging and coughing fiercely until a fireman showed up at my door telling me to evacuate. He managed to open the balcony door instead.
  • Another time, I coughed up blood and I never went to the Hospital for it, so I have no idea what's going on in my body at the moment.

Well, I can think of two near-death experiences for me.

First Near-Death Experience:

Well, when I was a little kid, my dad was pushing me on a swing. He was pushing me kind of high, but it was fine. Then, I thought it would be a good idea to let go of the swing, and see what happens. Well, I let go, and then I fell off backwards, did a flip thingy, and then fell straight on my head. Luckily, I wasn't hurt.

Second Near-Death Experience:

When I was in third grade (I think it was third grade, that is), I was eating lunch in the cafeteria, and there were nachos there. I decided to get that, and started to eat normally. Then, I started chocking on a chip, and started to panic, but I was able to get to a water fountain quick enough.

I've had much too many to count.(Y'know, things like choking, getting stuck in things, tripping in bad spots, cars, sharp things, ect.)  (It kind of makes you mentally realize that everything, and anything can kill you, and starts to mess with you after a while.) But... I think the most scariest for me was almost drowning.

So, I was at a public pool, (I was young.) and there were some kids playing with a raft-like thing. I swam near them, and they flipped it, and sat on it, over my head. I could just barely push it up and was swallowing water and such. (As I couldn't breathe.) Luckily about after a minute, I was able to force my way out from the side. Nobody came around, so  just kinda floated off into the corner and tried to vent it out and calm down. For some reason the experience stopped my ability to swim as well as I was able to previously. It really wasn't a huge deal compared to most things, but..I dunno... It was quite scary.

Probably the closest time to death I have ever had was back in 2009. I was Hospitalized with Swine Flu.I had a bunch of other stuff too. The doctor's/my parents didn't think I was gonna make it. Had to spend 3 weeks in the Hospital and then 2 1/2 months at home. 2009 is not a year I really like to remember.

Once. November of 2012, I was up at 1 AM puking violently for the first time in years. Before then, I had nausea, blurred vision, and fatigue. If I tried to eat or drink anything, I would always puke it back up. My body would accept nothing, not even water. I went to the ER in the morning, and was told my blood sugar was 700 and that I was dying. They got me on an insulin drip and several other IVs, and rushed me to the children's hospital. I was bed ridden for 3 day, and the IVs came out a day later, and in total I spent a week in the hospital. I was taught what diabetes was, how to treat it, what to do and what not to do, and so on. That was the closest to death I have ever gotten.

Yes, Twice.

Once when I was about 8 or 9, I had a serious infection. Couldn't keep food or liquid down, Extremely high fever, could barely move. You know, the works

And more recently, about a month ago, I was riding my quad down to the trails, staying on the side of the road at a responsible pace, when I notice a Silver Ford SUV run a stop sign and pick up speed as it came towards me up the road. Now at about 45 MPH (Speed limit 20 MPH) the Ford switched into my lane (Oncoming) and continued to come closer to me. I stopped, and flashed my headlights to get the driver's attention, she looked up (From her phone, she was texting) and violently swerved back just before hitting me.

i got hit by a car that was travelling at about 50-60 Km/h once. i broke my right arm in multiple places, my right leg in multiple places, my right shoulder, and three of my right ribs. also my right eyesocket.

that was a wonder i didn't break more.

i also nearly drowned when i was on vacation. i was maybe 8 years old back then. i was swimming in a public pool when some asshole thought it was funny to hold me under. i lost conciusness underwater and i woke up 2 days later in a hospital. i never even knew who almost murdered me.

and i've been suicidal. i got a few scars from that on my wrists.

Not cool. A life lost is NEVER a good thing! You have so much potential to bring others happiness, so no, it is a great and wonderful thing you simply brushed off death. Now, here is Scootaloo in a tree.

That whole Scootaloo in a tree thing made me giggle uncontrollably :P.

Anyways, as for me, i've not really come close to death far as i remember, i mean i've had a few times where its been hard to breath, but i think most is just because i'm worrying about something.

I do kinda worry i'll die pretty frequently actually, i just feel like i'll randomly get something, or have some disease, and just die randomly, which is kinda scary, its not exactly like i have alot of justifiable reasons, i just am afraid something might happen, especially since i've not really had any severe injuries even yet. Feel like my luck might run out you know?

I haven't really ever come that close to death. A while back I was at the pool with my friends and one of them just pushed me underwater and wouldn't let me back up. I finally managed to get away. Also I was having a contest with my dad of who could swim the farthest underwater and I nearly blacked out trying to win. (I did end up winning. :D). I've also been nearly hit in the back of the head with a baseball it barely missed and if it had hit me I would have gotten a bod concussion or worse. So not anything that was that close to dying.

Well, let's sum it up:

- I nearly drowned in a wave pool. That was possibly the closest one.

- I was nearly stomped to death by a few kids. Tried to mug me. Seven against one, how brave...

- I nearly broke my neck when I slipped on a stairway. Instead my back and neck felt like they were broken.

- My appendix nearly broke. Seriously, a few hours later and the infection would've most likely killed me.

- That crazy kid at kindergarten nearly smashed my skull with a shovel. A shovel!

- A bully of mine nearly choked me. I kicked him... you know where.

Just three

When I was in 6th grade, I drink a medicine that I wasn't supposed to use, but there weren't much left in it through.

I had a seizure when I was eating breakfast and another one when I was in school.

A few years ago, my mom got into a car accident with me and my little sister, but it wasn't serious.

Probably the closest was when I had pneumonia as a little kid, but other than that, not really. I've choked on bread and chips a few times, but that came nowhere near killing me.

My workplace functionality tends to favor heights, coupled with extremely unusual and highly precarious transportative methodology between the various height-levels.  It's adventurous, to say the least, if highly risky.    .. and yet I live ..  Meh.

Question though, for anyone here:  Do you remember what happened between death and re-awakening into the land of the living?  I'm always on the hunt for an NDE story.  Not the "I nearly died" type of near death experience, but the "I actually died for a while, then came back." type of NDE;  An actual NDE.

I cannot overstate how mystifying they are.

Guess it was around the age of five when I slipped on a stairway and cracked my skull at a nearby window sill. Luckíly it got patched up and I don't have to suffer under any consequential damages.

I've been pretty lucky throughout my life, not one broken bone all my years so far, probably because I'm so scared of dying and because of that I always stay cautious. However the closest I've ever been to dying is when I was 8 and I was crossing the street along the crosswalk when the light was red, totally safe amirite, then when I walk into the right turn lane some truck comes speeding by and stops on the crosswalk when I was walking and I flew into the middle of the street. Luckily enough for me I was walking alongside my bike and the bike took the blunt of the hit, a adult called a ambulance and soon enough the doctors checked me, I was perfectly fine, not even a bruise or scar to show. If I crossed the street on my bike I don't know what would've happened I might've died, or been in the hospital for days.

Apparently, when I was eighteen months old, my whole family went to the public pool. My parents were trying to convince my brother to jump in the pool, and while they were bickering, I dove headfirst into the deep end. I came up for air and was promptly rescued by my mother.

Okay, so maybe it's not death death, but still, I came pretty close to drowning! xD

My near-death experience was back in preschool, where I was maybe 8 or 9 months old on the playground, one of the kids who was 3 or 4 at the time, decided to hit the back of my head repeatedly against the back of a plastic slide in the middle of the playground, I was bleeding and was taken to the emergency room.

When I was born I had the cord wrapped around my throat and nearly died. When I was around seven or eight I had a massive asthma attack and was in the hospital for an entire week (spring break no less!). I only remembered throwing up and blacking out but apparently my mother was freaking out because I was trying to breathe and all the was coming out was foam because my throat was closed off so badly. I spent the week on oxygen with regular blood tests watching Sesame Street and being homesick.

I came off of a motorbike doing close to 80 mph-went through a hedge and landed in a field. Only got a cut on my shoulder and bruises.

1 week later we were playing chicken-a bike collided with me and broke my leg. Go figure.
