I would recommend learning how to shoot a bow or something stealthy, also make sure you have a food source, such as a garden or something. If you wanna pm me we can talk more.

Where to begin here? Knowledge is probably the easiest most important prepper skill to acquire, having all the best survival gear means nothing if you don't know how to use it. I am into prepping but I am not nearly as prepared as people you see on tv or online. Consider food preps, survival preps, combat and defense preps. The biggest thing I struggle with is joining a local prepper community. I'm sure there is one but I am extremely introverted. Making friends is a low priority for me. There are plenty of online resources to study. I think it's great you are looking into this. I was in boy scouts long long ago. Their motto: Be Prepared. I did not think to much of this until recent years when I realized that if a disaster struck, I'd be screwed. Common sense really. You don't need to have stockpiles of preps, but have something. Multi purpose items are great, innovation and imagination go a long way too.

There is a ton of information out there, don't get overwhelmed. Once you start prepping, it kinda becomes part of your lifestyle and you continue to collect preps as time goes on. My first preps were MREs and survival handbooks. My roommate says I'm ready for the zombie apocalypse now. The human apocalypse scares me more.

I'll quote a youtuber here: If you're not always prepared, you're never prepared.

The preacher man says its the end of time
And the Mississippi River shes a goin dry
The interest is up and the Stock Markets down
And you only get mugged
If you go down town

I can plow a field all day long
I can catch catfish from dusk till dawn
We make our own whiskey and our own smoke too
Aint too many things these ole boys cant do
We grow good ole tomatoes and homemade wine
And a country boy can survive
Country folks can survive

Because you cant starve us out
And you cant makes us run
Cause one-of- em old boys raisin ole shotgun
And we say grace and we say Maam
And if you aint into that we dont give a damn

Hank Williams jr - A Country Boy Can Survive

that song sums up who will be ready for the end of the world and what a prepper really is.

I been around people that were in the armed forces and there like and i can say the "prepper" thing is a joke. I asked some of those people what you would need to make it and they said " well were to do live, what kind of ride to you have, and are you ready to do whatever it take to  survive". If you live somewhere like FL were we have a  hurricane season/really bad weather then you are a prepper cause only a fool would not be ready for what does happen vs what might happen.

I can list many reasons why a lot of the prepper people might not make it(I might not make it and many people will not anyways.)  But the biggest is there me vs them mindset and a lot of them are the bug in type. Unless it's something that you know will pass(like a hurricane) or you have a very good place with lots of people(like you live in a small town) plan on  bugging out.  You have to learn how to live without stuff and how fare you really can go.

This is what i have learn and been told about prepping from people that have been in real life and death stuff. Plan for what will happen everyday(like if you live somewere that snows  keeping Blanket's,a Snow shovel, food ect in your car), always dress for the weather and plan ahead/think about were your going. We are all adults, if you did not know how to make it this far in life you would not be here.  All that other stuff like getting ready for zombies and planning for the end of the world is well just fiction.

FYI  i have been in some real bad hurricanes, i live thourght a work place shooting(only one person died) and i am  small game hunter.  what kind of hunter hunts squirrels? the one that has something to eat tonight.

There's an older gentleman who lives just down the block and is a total conspiracy theorist/survivalist. I've seen inside his garage, its insane all the stuff he has "just in case". I guess if any sort of apocalypse happened, I'd just kill him and take his stuff. Now that's being prepared.

Its rather simple to start. Uncooked white rice (if kept sealed and free from moisture and bugs) will last longer than you. Buy a small bag every time you go to the store for groceries. Its a substitute for bread and has most of the calories you will need for the day.

Honey will last for like a 100 years. It will go dark and crystallize. Boil a pan of water. take it off the heat, and put the jar of honey in the pan, and in a few minutes the crystals will dissolve back into honey.  Its the perfect food. and its cheap. But buy it in glass jars.

Canned food is 100 times better than 60 years ago. If its not dented, or bloated, it will still be good. Hormel chili will last indefinitely this way. There is a secret to canned veggies-in a survival situation, DRINK the water its packed in, Part of the nutrition leaks out of the veggies and into the water.

Its cheap and easy to prepare. BUT as one poster above noted,,,don't tell your neighbors or friends. When people get hungry they will come gunning for you. Civilization will last only so long when people are starving.

--everyone should have several days worth of food on hand. you never know what will blow your way.

I'm only prepared for a Greece style  financial disaster. Several months at best. Take a look at the Sandy survivors...its been two years, and they still don't have homes. Plan on the govt being incompetent.

The best survival advice I can give is have a place to go to. Retreat to a house miles away, like a family member who lives out of state. There are Sandy survivors who are still living in tents. After Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy, I see FEMA as worthless. Plan on saving yourself.

Most disasters are local, 10 miles away life may well be normal. Get out of the disaster zone, even if you have to walk.

Hope this helps.

I would prep, however, my family is to lazy and cheap to consider that option.

But I recommend to have a bunker with all the necessary essentials like a toilet and food that will last for a while in case of an emergency.

how can one be too cheap to dumpster dive?

one thing that i dont get is when i see people stock up on toilet paper its only good for tinder i say get a wash cloth and just wash it after you use it preferably with non potable water.

This site tells you how long ordinary foods will last. Its a must have for anyone on a budget.

This is the most likely scenario you will encounter. Its survival from the streets of Cairo during the initial uprising of the arab spring. Whole sections of Cairo had no food or services and armed gangs were going about killing people. There were NO preppers there and this is what they did to survive. Spoiler: ultimately they had to leave the country.

In a disaster sitting in place works. You want two weeks of food. even non-preppers should have something set aside.
In social chaos...GET OUT. Have a backpack and leave.

If you are prepping for the end of the world, you want to be in the back country on a farm and nowhere near a city. I don't think the world will end, so I'm not prepping for it.

The best way to prep is to not let anyone know.
