Who is Moondancer, and what if Twilight went to her party?

In the first episode of season one, a pony named Moondancer is mentioned. Lemon Hearts, Twinkleshine, and Minuette tried to invite Twilight to Moondancer's party, but she never went. My guess is that Moondancer was Twilight's old friend. She is no longer mentioned in the show. She was a first generation pony. What ever happened to her? How would the storyline be different if Twilight went to her party? If Twilight never went to her party, she probably wouldn't have met Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity, and Applejack. Lemon Hearts, Twinkleshine, Minuette, and Moondancer along with Twilight would've represented the elements of harmony, although in this case there would only be five total which is not enough unless Twilight met someone else at the party.

There's always the possibility that 'Moondancer' was made up, and the "Party" was actually an Intervention targeting Twilight, to FORCE her to have social interaction and make friends.

Well, they probably did want her to make friends, but I doubt they would've pulled a Mare Do Well on her to make it happen. Then again, five of the Mane Six DID pull a Mare Do Well, so who knows? :okiedokielokie:

 

But I think we can assume Moon Dancer was real. I picture her as a popular pony who holds a lot of dance parties, and she must be kind of nice since she thought to invite Twilight. But given Twilight's personality pre-S1, she probably didn't expect her to show up.

well im pretty sure celestia would still send her that note saying she needs friends because, im pretty sure that would be her first party and somthing would go totally wrong or ,she would just ignore everypony.She would probabaly go to ponyville either way... Or she would just never have the elements of harmony and later,Discord would take over and everything would be chaotic...

I wouldn't call Twilight anti-social. She still respects other ponies and knows how to socialize with them, but she is somewhat introverted.

She did not hate society. She simply had no interest in parties.

That wouldn't be too bad of an episode idea. A 'what if' scenario. Twilight is second guessing her decisions as a princess and gets paralyzed by indecision, so Celestia casts a spell or shows her a magical item that allows her to peer into a past that never was, how things would've unfolded had she gone to Moondancers party. 

 

Just wacky enough to work and filled with just enough inconsistencies to make for a realistic episode.

Just look at her name! Don't you see?? Moondancer's "little get together" was a cult meeting for summoning Nightmare Moon back to this realm! They wanted Twilight to go so that they could sacrifice her and her powerful magics to bring back their dark lord! Just look at that cutie mark. "The stars will aid in her escape"!

Whenever I'm feeling extra pessimistic, I think of writing a fanfic where moondancer is a scholarly intellectual that attempts to disprove the magic of friendship, and instead show ponies the benefits of being a loner.

considering how many times i've watched and rewatched s1 since 2011, especially those first eps which are two of my favorite, this is the kind of question that keeps me up at night

 

we used to get so in dept with every single frame of every episode when these were new and it was just so wild.  to even see a question like this again from the very first ep makes me smile honestly.

 

i like to think if twi had had the level of social stability she needed at that point celestia woudl have likely seen no need to send her to ponyville in the first place -- of course NMM might've won then so it wouldn't have been great, but if we pretend that whoel thing didn't happen or the other pones were able to stop her (or gasp, another element of magic like trixie or sunset had had to be used instead) ... and we imagine a whole alternate-timeline universe in which there was a whole show dedicated to twilight's misadventures throughout canterlot makin' friends and studying/mastering normal good ol' magic the normal way without all these shnennigans interrupting it, so perhaps a more stable and gradual mastery of it rather than her shaky uncertain show-self with random extreme jumps in power/control now and then... yeah, seems fun

Osseous Rex   IMO, those ponies were some of the other students at Twilight's school.

 

As to "Would Celestia still have sent T to Ponyville?"  This goes to the question "What did the Princess know and when did she know it?"  I've said elsewhere that IMO, C knew a lot.  She sent T to Ponyville because she knew (or strongly suspected) T would meet the other Elements there & was hoping for the exact outcome she got.

I think i saw a fanfic on this idea of  Twilight going to Moondancer's party once.  Also

I like the g4 design of Moondancer over all!  I think Twilight still would have been

sent to Ponyville  given Princess Sunbutt did see the signs her sister was coming back

and would need a unicorn of high magic to help in her defeat and I think Twilight would

have just met the mane six.  They could have used the party to show also why Twilight

might have needed to work on her social skills by making a bit of a odd to off one at the

party.

Nothing much would've changed; though it would be interesting to see Moondancer after how she was turned down by both Twilight and Sunset. Maybe she becomes a S5 villain?
