Before he was first banished to the tundra, Sombra caused the Crystal Empire to disappear for one thousand years. A question arises: how?

The most important clue is the memory of the Crystal Ponies; they felt as though not a day had passed since Sombra's reign (which they don't want to remember). Maybe they were right, in a sense... just like when Alduin was banished to the future by an Elder Scroll.

If this is true, Sombra achieved the same feat as an Elder Scroll, by himself.

Ironically, his easy defeat was due to his greatest advantage; the Crystal Heart. He basically turned it into a horcrux; that connection not only makes him essentially immortal, but would've been the major mechanic in his banishment of the empire.

As long as it stays full of hope and happiness, the Heart will ensure the safety of the empire. If not...

Twilight didn't actually travel back in time; she just entered an astral state that showcased the past (which is why she couldn't interact with Celestia).

Oh, sorry I forgot about her actual travel after she snuck into the library. Then again, one pony isn't that hard. An entire kingdom is unprecedented.

I haven't read LOTR since school, but wasn't he an elf or something?

He was a Maiar(Same as Gandalf) untill Melkor(The devil of Tolkien universe) Corrupted him.

A former student who wanted more than he had, and fell into madness. Probably.

Still, the fact his magical aura is almost identical to that of "alicorn magic", as demonstrated by Celestia, has to be more than coincidence. We'll just have to wait and see.

Or, they fell in love with each other. Celestia, however put her subjects before Sombra, breaking Sombra's heart and causing him to turn to darkness.

It might not even have travelled thought time but mere phase shifted so it was more displaced than actually moving forwards. The city's disappearance is the power of the Crystal Heart, not of Sombra. Hell, he can't even get though Cadence's barrier, let alone use time-space magic.

He made 2 pocket dimensions of stairs. That's surely time-space-y.

The Heart is the phylactery of the empire; it guarantees its continued existence. Through dark magic, he it made his as well; a "storage unit" of the soul.

As cheesy as it sounds, love really is the best defense against "evil" (for lack of a better term). Cadence's powers center on that powerful emotion... but there's always a limit. She reached it.

Well thinking of this being he is intangible, formless, and with powerful magic so in all honesty if it werent for alicorn/unicorn magic being present this fight would be one sided since intagible makes it impossible to hurt him think of Buu/superbuu/kidbuu level of endurance in physical stances anyways

and even regenerating from this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrIxCC_Z720 though I will understand if this comparison might not
