Are the Anti-Bronies Really This Organized?

I've noticed several cases where I couldn't get in to the forums. At the time, I thought that my Internet was just acting up again, but I did some reading and found out that I couldn't get in because there were DDoS attacks! I can't believe it. I thought the anti-bronies where just a below-guerrilla level group of trolls and short-minded individuals. It disturbs me that they're capable of going this far.

Your thoughts?

All it takes is one troll with enough technical skill to launch a DDOS attack. It is sad and pathetic really, all that talent going to waste like that. Most of the trolls though aren't able to pull off something like that thankfully so it is just something that may happen on here from time to time.

A lot of /b/rothers aren't too friendly to bronies, hence the attacks. And I wouldn't necessarily call it organized - there are a few people here and there who can do some damage, and a few small groups of dedicated opposition, but were you to speak to the common 'hater' they'd probably not mention anything about an organized movement.

Just hope Anon doesn't ever decide to focus on us.

When you have someone who has the technical prowess to be able to launch a DDoS attack, it's really something. It is pathetic for a troll to waste that on a pony forum website, but you know.

People are stupid, it's just a matter of all the idiot haters out their wasting their time on our little community that we have, when they could be doing so much more with their abilities, besides attacking us.

Yeah, it's a bummer. But it's apart of being in our fandom. From grown men loving My Little Pony as much as we do, people are going to be close minded and not even listen to reason. Just aiming all of their attacks to destroy our happiness. But they're going to need more of their pathetic DDoS attacks to break the magic of our friendship, right guys? (\

From my experience................yes they are.  Judging by the DDOS we recently had, is pretty much the "beginning" step, yet they won't and will not stop at anything to get this forum shutdown.  I know b/c my job is to track such cases, like I did here with the DDOS.  Funny, I deal with morons like these on other forums and sometimes, I just want to give them a good kick in the ass on what they did,.   Which reminds me, I have a feeling that the person who caused the DDOS is the same one who created accounts, with those spam threads we had a few days ago.   Most likely it was his "revenge" on what we did to him, which would not surprise me.

Rather not go against policy nor off-topic here, but if hack were to happen, within the forums, I think what these forums should have is a "back-up" mod.  What i mean by that is, "covering" the "moderator" title with a standard member account; somewhat of a "reconnaissance" mod in a way.

I really wish there was something I could do to help; but I'm just a high school math enthusiast, not a professional programmer. Ah well, hopefully there are some smart people within our community that knows a way to prevent these attacks.

I find the title rather insulting to people, especially haters, no matter what their stance is, we must treat everyone with a nod. They are human beings, and if they are human beings, they would have a level of intelligence to do such a thing really. I mean, if they were all up for spending time doing such a thing--not sure why they would be bother for such a thing in the first place. Whatever works for them I suppose.

No worries........sometimes when hacking starts occurring its pretty exciting b/c its like a police chase, in cyber space, lol.

Also, im actually a Network Adminstrator, specialized in Security, so im pretty much a Security Specialist.  :D

Really organized trolls are really rare let alone organized anti bronies.

Well, using DDOS attacks is actually a felony. In the US, it's against the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and can result in imprisonment for up to ten years.

Lol, why does this community always act so dramatic? This isn't some stupid war or something. There are just people out there who have a problem with our community. So what? I love how everyone always acts like anti-bronies are stupid when they're normal people like us that just hate the community.

PS. DDoS is illegal in 'Murrica.

Indeed.  However, "if" the hacker that went behind these forums got arrested, he would most likely get a huge fine and 5 years of imprisonment.  10 year imprisonment is more for hacking business related sites.

Well, it was taken down in a few hours, so it wasn't as big as a problem, though the "internet police" can easily track down the computer used and find the person.

I concur, fully.  Indeed it may sound dramatic, but at the same time, it gets me going on "let's find the SOB" type of thing,

Yeah.  Hacking these forums was not pretty much of a big deal, tbh, b/c they just did it to gain attention.  BTW, the "internet" police are in fact network administrators, or cyber security specialists, :D.  Something I do, but like you said with the hacker being taken down in a few hours, that was pretty quick.  Not all hackers go down that easily, b/c most of them love to cover their tracks and what makes me laugh about this one is that he hacked but pretty much exposed himself, serving as an easy target, :D

I'm assuming it was taken down in a few hours, since MLPForums was down in the morning for me, and when I came back from lunch, the forums were back up.

I'm guessing that I'm really questioning their drive more than their intelligence. Who on earth would put so much time and effort in to destroying something that so many people love? We're not out to hurt people. :(

Not really. All you need is LOIC to DDOS. I mean, hell, I have the program right now. rig up a couple zombie computers, run LOIC and you can have this site deader than 2chan in a couple of minutes. And while the internet at large may dislike us, there is no super organized resistance to this fandom.

All it takes is a dedicated group of individuals with minimal actual technical skill to initiate a DDoS attack. It's actually quite simple with the right resources. We can't simply assume it's anti-bronies doing the attacks, either.

All you need is LOIC. It runs both the ip grab script, and the DDoS script for you. Couple that with one or two zombie computers, and any half assed 4channer could take down this site.

I concur with Reflex.   All you need is LOIC and your pretty much ready to create hell,.  I've seen the program myself, and when hackers use it...........its such a pain in the ass.

DDoS is laaame. Trust me. All they do is get you scared for a few minutes/hours when the website is down and turns out nothing happens. They can't get past the mass server firewall(s) with a simple DDoS and I'd be amazed if they could carry it out for more than a few hours while actually getting into the source without getting caught or blocked off.

Plus most of the time you need to keep the DDoS program have a constant connection to keep the forum down. Hell just send a few white hats to snip their connection and its ready to go back online again. Hell I'd love to see some whitehat hackers on here :D

(If you don't know, "White hats" are defender hackers. They basically use electronic warfare against hackers.)
