Was there a celebrity loss that really struck close to the heart?

Was there? One of the ones that obviously killed me was Ryan Dunn, if you can't tell already. My feels disappeared for a while, but I recently just watched a RIP video released by Dickhouse, and that got me going again. Ryan Dunn was a great guy who had so much going for him. Bam Margera, a close friend, and whose autograph I have, literally cried in a newscast over Dunn. He was one of his closest friends. I knew Dunn's brother a little, and my sister knew Dunn personally. She went to school with them. News of his death really hit both of us hard. Post your story.

Harry Morgan. I love M*A*S*H, always have, and Colonel Potter was one of my favorite characters. It was truly sad when I got the news.

Leslie Nielsen. Comedic genius...his films were always great for a couple thousand laughs, it was like the end of an era when he went.

George Carlin. One of the best stand-up comedians in the history of the art. Plus, Bill and Ted! Now we're stuck with people like Dane Cook, who is not only unfunny but also unlikable.

Ted Williams. One of the greatest baseball players ever, and arguably the best hitter, who spent his whole career with my favorite team and was beloved.

Paul Newman. Almost every one of his films was an instant classic, he was my mother's favorite actor and I was named after him and my brother was named Luke after one of his films.

DeForest Kelley. The Real McCoy. The first of the big three (Kirk, Spock, McCoy) to die and it was incredibly saddening for every Trekkie.

James Doohan: Rest in Peace, Scotty. Again, a truly emotional death for every Star Trek fan.

Majel Barrett: Same as the last two

As for celebrity deaths in the future which will likely generate an emotional response from me: Anyone who has ever played a main or frequently recurring character on Star Trek, former President Clinton, all of the main cast members of M*A*S*H.

Also, no offense to you, OP, but I have very little sympathy for the deaths of those who die while drunk driving. The only thing I can say is that it is fortunate he did not kill or injure an innocent person while doing it.

I remember lying in my bedroom, listening to the radio, just after 5 p.m., reading a comic book. I still remember what page I was on.

That is what I was doing when I heard Gene Roddenberry died. No other celebrity's death struck me before or since like that.

I think the biggest celebrity death that I've been upset over was Kurt Cobain. While I was only two when he died, I grew up appreciating his music and his writing, and always felt a huge connection to him. So while, I wasn't mourning his death at the time of his death, it still affected my life and I have been known to get a little emotional when talking about him.

Doesn't really make me cry, but I am sad inside that these people are gone:

Captain Lou Albano (Mario)

Danny Wells (Luigi)

Tony Jay (Megabyte, Frollo)

Edd Gould ("I like trains" guy)

Just recently, personally favorite comedian Tim Wilson died of a heart attack, at I believe the age of 57.

I liked his work so much and his sense of humor has shaped mine more than any one else that isn't named Frank Zappa.

Don't mind the video, the song is what is important

Charles Schulz, creator of the Peanuts comic strip. Peanuts was my first artistic inspiration, as a young kid. In late 1999, when I was 10, I read in our newspaper that Schulz was retiring after 50 years. It was a solemn experience for me. Just a couples months later, on February 12, 2000. Schulz passed away. I learned the news the next day, which coincidentally was the day the last original Peanuts comic strip was published in newspapers nationwide. I still have my copy, 14 years later.

Michael Jackson's death also affected me. Despite the problems he was part of, I still felt sympathy for him and wish things could have gone differently.

Not really unless you count Billy Mays. I loved that guy, and it made me sad to see a nice person die. Other than him, I don't get attached to celebrities; they seem too far-removed for me to feel any connection towards.

I remember being a bit stunned when I heard about Kurt Cobain's suicide on the radio while I was at work.  I think it struck a nerve because we were the same age.

After a while, those thoughts changed from shock to envy, but that's as may be.

The recent one that was a nasty shock was Frankie Knuckles the Godfather of House music. Made some great tunes, and was a really cool guy and he was like there from the start

That made me feel sad

The day Christopher Walken dies is the day that I die inside.

Knowing that I won't be able to see those eyes, that dead-pan delivery, that smile ever again...

It's horrible. A world without Walken is a world I don't want to live in.

One that bummed me out was when James Avery, who played Uncle Phil on Fresh Prince of Bel Air died.  Fresh Prince was and still is one of my favorite shows to watch, but knowing that James is now dead makes it feel kind of weird, but only a little but.  Another one was when Jani Lane died in 2011, he was the lead singer of the band Warrant who is famous for songs like Uncle Tom's Cabin, Down Boys, Heaven, and Cherry Pie.

not really, I've never investigated closely any celebrity life to feel any attachmen to them, so, no one's death goes beyond of "What a shame" and I go with my life seconds later. It's not that I'm heartless, it's just that in my eyes, they are no more humans than you and I, and I don't see the point to cry over someone else's  death.
