Do you dislike stories where Princess Celestia is evil? 'Evil', assuming there is such a thing as good and evil.

Evil, as in by openly endorsing slavery, war, kill all Humans and other bad things?

I like the stories, if I'm given a good reason how good Princess Celestia suddenly turned into the dark lord Sauron's personality. Evil demon took her mind or something, not just Celestia is evil.

No.

But stories where she has to make morally hard decisions where even the 'right' thing has a cost? yes.

among my favourites are one where she cast a spell to revive a pony at the cost of killing another. (Twilight offered herself but another takes her place to make amends for what she had done).

Another is where she offered a pony a chance at redemption by effectively erasing her whole life and inessence obliterating her as a person, her reasoning is to give the child she once was before her parents warped her a chance at a normal life.

I like reading them if they are of a good quality. I want a proper answer to why Princess Celestia is evil besides the convenient old tactic, "She's a ruler and we need an antagonist who is already well-made and because we are lazy writers that can't come up with a good character." Those stories I despise as they lack a good reason for why Princess Celestia would be evil. And it just feels like they stripped down Princess Celestia to a cliche antagonist.

Now... those stories that can make Princess Celestia into an antagonist while keeping her believable, those are stories that I would love to read. It is that trait where turning a character that is protagonist into an antagonist while making sure the character is still presentable. I had skimmed/read through some stories that showed Princess Celestia off as an antagonist, but those usually left me disgusted and making me lose interest. Now, I am sure I had read stories where Princess Celestia being the antagonist was brilliant, but those are sadly far few in between.

See, it would need an explanation like that for me, too.

Or probably better than a demon taking over her mind. If the story was about an evil force taking over her mind and it was up to Twilight and co. to turn her back to normal so that Equestria doesn't get destroyed, I would like to read a well-written story like that.

But making Celestia evil just because you don't like her? Uh, no. I can't enjoy something that just randomly decides that she is evil, because she is not by nature evil at all. Like what was said earlier:

You're portraying a motherly figure as a psychotic bitch? wtf, OOC, much?

wtf indeed

Absolutely, she's supposed to be the nice, loving, optimistic, beautiful princess. But everyone betrays her as some kind of evil, monstrous, tyrannic, dictator who has a lust for executions. I prefer Celestia to Luna any day ('cos she pretty  ).

You forgot the word sexist ^^

I personally hate them as they're written either to make a cheap excuse to turn a character that has attachments to the main cast as a villain for the sake of one, as some wish fulfillment to show off Luna's actions becoming Nightmare Moon were justified in some way, or simply because they do not like Celestia.

I don't mind if she makes morally ambiguous decisions that showcase it was a difficult decision for her to make and she does it for the sake of the party or Equestria itself as she struggles to maintain herself as a good ruler striving to achieve what's right and best for her people.

I could explain it to you but today is my lazy day :P Ask someone lol.

Lamest excuse I've ever heard for not properly explaining an argument.

I'll just assume that you don't have a real reason to believe that she is sexist, and you're just saying that she is because it justifies an unfounded dislike towards her character.

If they're trying to pass it off as canon Celestia. Like she's always been this way and nopony has ever noticed then no. If it's just an alternate universe tale, or one where she was corrupted somehow then I'm fine with it, as long as it's well written.

Celestia being evil seems kind of boring, since it's been done to death.

I prefer a crazy Celestia to an evil one. By crazy I mean her being a banana, and shooting ponies to the moon with her cannon.

I'd be okay with them...except for that they are usually done so that Luna, Chrysalis, or Discord looks good. It's for pure fan wank and bitching about why their precious waifu can save the day from the evil of Celestia. Some have been written well(one or two) but most are nothing but pathetic fantasies where their favorite character is in charge!

Mastermind is fine -- pulling all the strings behind the scenes in ways that are not apparent to a hidden agenda.

Evil is less so without a lot of explanation as to HOW she reached that point.  Just popping an AU tag is a copout.
