What's your favorite genre of fan fiction?

 

Mine, is war of survival. I always love the feelings of weak fighting against the inevitable, in defiance of their fate. They don't go quietly into the the night, even though they know they can't win against the enemy.   

 

I love brave Ponies or any other race standing up against those they can't win, or at least have very little hope of winning against themm

It's a genre you really have to feel and be extremely emotionally invested into to be able to write effectively and effeciantly, but if you can pour your whole soul and feelings into it, you'll generally get a good outcome They were almost exclusively what I wrote during my time writing fanfiction.

Reminds me, I never wrote a fanfic for fimfic All my fanfics are Ace Attorney stuff, pretty much, and one unfinished Rarishy fanfic I started when I first joined the fandom.

I myself prefer science-fiction fics, almost all the fanfiction I write is Star Trek based. I include my favorite shipped couples, but most of the time there is a story outside of their relationship, i.e. an alien invasion, a technical problem...

I like historiographic metafictions, which basically is fictionized stories correlating with actual real events, such as 9/11. Usually fics in this genre deal with a lot of dark and even taboo themes and issues in our world.

 

I found a good suspense fic relating to the Vietnam war, but I stopped reading it b/c

 

1. To be straight, it's turning into an endless rant.

2. Too much hurt/comfort. Comforting scenes are really effective if you know how and when to use them, but too much of it ruins the effect.

 

Another aspect I like is Iceberg, purposely eliminating emotions and specific information to leave them in the interpretation of readers.

 

Finally, crossovers. There are very good ones. But to be honest, a lot of them are, forgive me, terrible. I'd compare writing crossovers with playing with fire, because this is risky business.

 

So, I decided to play with fire, writing a metal gear cross fic of this historiographic metafiction genre myself, using the aspect of iceberg mentioned above.

Right, so favorite type of fic. Well done shipfic is my favorite, as I'm touched by well written romance and cute fluff in a way that is normally difficult with my stone heart and stoic persona. However, the stipulation, as I already emphasized, is well written. Bad or even average shipfic without good, deep grasp of the characters involved and organic development of the relationship is no good. In fact, it's the worst type of fanfic for me.

 

I also like really subversive stuff. Fics that make me go 'whoa, didn't see that one coming' in a good way.

I read any genre of fan fiction that has good grammar and a decent story line. I can't really decide on a favorite.

This might have to do with the fact that I am a sociopath, but I really like the horrors. It's just so opposite of the show and I find it really interesting. BTW I wish I saw more fanfics where someone besides Pinkie Pie or Fluttershy is the mass murdering psycho....
