movies/tv What Marvel Movie is The Best(Pre Iron Man era)

I am saying every Marvel movie before Iron Man. Because Iron Man was a retcon for our current Marvel universe. So everything from Xmen(2000) to Spider-man 3, what was the best movie for those 7 years of that film era? It can be any movie before Iron Man. I HATE the Fantastic Four movies, but everyone is entitled to their film preferences.

I actually didn't like most of the films prior to Ironman. I guess I'll go with Ghost Rider. That one was pretty good.

Marvel Studios should remake it and put Robbie Reyes in it, though. :D

I think the retcon with Iron Man was the best choice. I personally think that Spider-Man 2 was the best movie of that era and that it still holds up amazingly. I actually remember seeing it in theaters in 2004 with my friend.

Definetly Bryan Singer's X-Men. One of my favourite superhero movies and a perfect portrayal of the X-Men. Plus, how could you go wrong with Patrick Steward and Ian McKellen?!

Well, I'd go with X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but that's not pre-Iron Man unfortunately.  :(

So instead I'll go with the next best one and say X2: X-men United.

I'm going to draw fire here because I'm one of the few people that really liked it, but I'm going to have to say Ghost Rider as well.

The first Ghost Rider movie was a lot like a Roland Emmerich movie: good effects, decent cast, and cheesy but fun. The second however, just bleck! One of those movies I prefer to think doesn't exist.  >_>

Probably X-Men, X2, or Spider-Man. They were well-made and allowed the audience to take comic books seriously as films; in other words, they weren't pure camp (and crap) like Batman and Robin. X2 also had a pertinent political allegory to deliver regarding intolerance and civil rights.

The shadow of DC's Batman Begins and The Dark Knight really loom large over all comic book films of that era, though. I don't think the Marvel films up until Iron Man managed to truly transcend their comic trappings the way Nolan's Batman films did.

The first two X Mens were awesome movies. Many people hate The Last Stand, I thought it was pretty good and had it's moments. Same goes for Spider Man 3(Yeah I went there)

I was watching Spider-man last night and anyone remember the cafeteria scene where after Peter by accident threw the tray at Flash? Then we had the scene where he beat the crap out of Flash. It was empowering to see as a young kid. Now that I am 21 it still has the same effect, but the older part of me is saying "Why is no one afraid that a nerd just punched a high school athlete more than probably 40 feet across the hallway in front of 100 people?

I actually feel old now. Because Spider-man screams early 2000s :P

Yeah, the first movie made up for not having the best writing by being fun. The second tried way to hard to be dark and serious and it sucked all that fun out and left a rather "meh" action/horror movie that had a confusing and hard to follow plot to boot.

I enjoyed a lot of the Marvel movies between '00 and '08, my top choice would either be Spiderman 2 or Daredevil.

Spiderman 2 was a big improvement over the original and Daredevil was different from all the other super heroes.

I also enjoyed Blade, X-Men and if The Incredible Hulk was released before Iron Man it would've replaced Daredevil.

Are any of these movies considered canon? Nobody I know would say that a movie overrides the comics (although comics have plenty of discrepancies as well, so comic book canon is always a grey area).

Anyway, probably Spiderman 2.

X-Men and Spiderman 1&2 (I despised Spiderman 3 b/c they screwed up my favorite anti-hero, Venom)

I think everybody despised Spiderman 3 :P

I've just still pissed my favorite villain finally made it to the movies and barely got any plotline or screen time.

I agree......Venom should've been much more Bulkier like in the comics and cartoon.  The one from Spiderman 3, he indeed didn't have a very good Plotline and Screentime.  Hopefully in Amazing Spiderman 3, he comes back as a "temporary ally" to stop Carnage.  Yet, his appearance better be the same as the comics, :(

What exactly did Iron Man retcon?

And for the record, a lot of the movies being mentioned aren't in continuity because they're owned by other studios. Disney has the rights to the "canon" Marvel universe (Avengers and everything that ties into it), Sony still owns Spider-Man as far as I know, and 20th Century Fox has X-Men. The pending fact that they all own rights and could sue the pants off each other should their "property" be name-dropped or referenced is what keeps the universe from being cohesive. /endrant

All that said, the X-Men and X2 were pretty good, and I love The Punisher.

I said retcon because Iron Man all the way to Captain America was a universe for the Avengers. The Amazing Spiderman is supposed to be in the Avengers continuity but Sony will not just sell Spiderman back to Marvel. I am not sure if Xmen is in the current Marvel Studios Universe.

Okay, I understand now. It is frustrating that the rights are so fragmented.

I'm REAL curious how they're going to bring Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver into Avengers 2 without crossing those lines.

The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton.

He is best Hulk.

ED NORTON IS THE FIRST AVENGER

Iron Man technically precedes The Incredible Hulk -- unless you're referring to Ang Lee's Hulk from 2003.
