Hey, you're not alone. I don't really consider myself a brony or a pegasister. I just think making up names that mean you're a big fan is not necessary. Really, I just consider myself a fan of the show.

Hmm, that's interesting. I think of myself as a pegasister sometimes, but not all the time. In fact I don't really actively think of myself as a Fan of the Show - I just think about ponies, because I like them. :D

(My dad did write in a card one time that I was a mighty pegasister XD! But I just don't really focus on that part of my liking the show.)

That's totally fine and I respect that.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say you may have gotten startled when you were notified of someone quoting you in this thread. <.<

Association with a fandom is something I consider a choice anyone should be free to make. Freely. It's really that simple.

At first I kind of thought the same thing, but this is really more than a TV show for me, and it's out of my control. I literally do something involving MLP in all of my leisure time. So it's kind of obsessive. I'm at the point of no return where I am officially a brony. I think that if you just watch the show and that's it, then you don't have to be a technical "brony".

But I sure am  :muffins:

You're a fan of the show or any other professional part of the product? Then whether you like it or not, that makes you a brony and, by default, a definite part of the fandom. (How much you participate in the fandom is up to you. It's possible to be a brony and passively involve yourself in the fandom.) Claiming otherwise means you're overthinking the definition of "brony" and creates divisions in the fandom, the latter the LAST thing we need.

I don't really see myself as a brony anymore, as I've stopped watching the show completely. I've watched 1 episode of season 4 and that was it for me. I still love derpy to death and I still like seeing fanart, though anything else I'm not a big fan of.

Yeah, the brony fandom has collected some horrible people. I honestly am not even sure why the show appeals to them at all.

I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people here who don't consider themselves bronies. Personally I don't think it's a big deal if someone doesn't call themself a brony, they shouldn't have to if they don't want to, imo it doesn't make them any less of a fan

I consider myself a brony and I know there are bad parts of the fandom, but the good is what keeps me here. Also,

Just not the 4chan side.

4chan is the last place you should go to in this fandom.

If you participate in any brony activities, then you're a brony.

A fan of the show merely watches it and that's the end of it. Respectable.

A sincere question; what if some people just don't want to associate with the fandom?

It's fine, as long as they don't look at/create art, read/make fanfics, join forums, ..or any of the other obviously-brony things people who don't want to be called bronies usually still do.

Those people usually just want none of the bad parts of being in a fandom(name calling, generalizing, etc.) but want to keep the good parts.

I've even seen a few replacement fandoms pop up (the most desperate and memorable being "The Canter-Lot").

I understand them.

Some people can't handle the bad attention.

Trust me, I understand this. The Brony fandom can be downright humiliating to be associated with, and I know for a fact I'd never want to be classified in public as one (Hence why I never tell anyone about it). I mean, I'd rather not be thought of as an antisocial awkward mentally challenged basement dwelling misogynistic neckbeard. Obviously not all Bronies are like this, but the stereotype is there and it must be based at least somewhat in truth, so I'd rather not be a part of it.

A sincere question; what if some people just don't want to associate with the fandom?

Then don't.

Is there even some sort of "official" definition of what a brony is? How would this be defined? I watch the show and I like it, so I'm a brony. Oh... Next guy disagrees... I have to be active in the fandom to be a brony. Why should I care what he thinks? Another will even say that bronies are those that produce fan content and the others are just fans.

I say I'm a brony. I like the cartoon. I watch it. I talk about it. I buy stuff related. How many think that I'm a brony? How many disagree? Who cares?

The furry "community" go through the same stupid identity crisis. I like furry art, therefore I'm a furry. And I don't care what other people think about it.

When talking about the show to others I tend to call myself just a "fan of the show" and not taking the title of a brony or pegasister. I don't like the name pegasister as much, despite it being my first username on this forum (so original, am I right?) and there's so much hate and critism that the word brony carries around, so I just say "fan." I'm not too big of a fan even to say I'm either a brony or pegasister, who I think of to be the big fans of the show.  I watch the show occasionally, I go on this forum a lot so ponies are pretty much part of daily life whether I want it or not and I like looking at some of the fanart.

But this is the "brony" forums soo.... I dunno. I'll just be whatever people want me to be XD

Looking on a pony forum for fans of the show that aren't bronies is like looking at the bottom of the ocean for swimmers that aren't scuba divers.  If you're on this site, you're already more than just a person who likes the show.  You clearly want to discuss the show or you wouldn't be here.  You also want to find other fans which also brings you further away from just being a person who watches the show.  You're active on the tumblr side of the fandom?  Again... that's more than just being a person who watches it.  The point I'm trying to make is whether you like the label or not, you're already more than just a casual fan.  Being a brony isn't synonymous with 4chan.  I've never posted on 4chan and have no interest in doing so... there are tons of different ways you can express your inner brony, whether that's through art, going to cons, or just discussing the show and fandom on places like this.  Point is, that swimmer might not call themselves a scuba diver, but they're either scuba diving or they're really in the wrong place...

Oooh me! I'm not a "Brony"!

I've never been keen on giving myself fandom labels anyway. I've never seen myself as being enough of a fan of anything to fit myself under any such label. The "Brony" label, in particular, is a label I do not wish to ever associate myself with, because it has a lot of baggage that I have no part in. I enjoy the show like I do any other show I watch, nothing more, nothing less.

Even if I *did* consider myself enough of a fan, I would be a Pegasister, not a Brony. Because "Brony" is a clearly masculine term, and I absolutely refuse the premises that being masculine is neutral, default.

I don't really see myself as a real brony. I only like to watch the tv show and the fan made stuff.

But i don't have the desire to show myself as a brony or buy any merchandis. I leave the german brony community and try my luck here.
