I don't "get" Rainbow Rocks...

I know some people might disagree, but I'm not excited for this new movie. I feel it's a waste, making no sense and not linking itself to the original show.

I haven't done a lot of research on what exactly it's about(yet), but judging from the preview movie thingeh, (not exactly called a trailer...) it looks like the entire movie is based on the human Mane 6 in some sort of rock band. Am I the only one who feels this way?

Same here. I mean, I will probably watch it, but... tbh I wasn't a huge fan of the first (I liked it, but I feel the show is much better... although the songs were catchy enough and stuff). But yeah... that's all I have to say. Maybe it will be better then the trailers are showing so far. :)

Let me explain marketing. The SHOW is hugely popular, it has a fanbase ranging from 5 to 55. The numbers every Saturday morning for downloads, tune ins, and streams is just sick. This is all common knowledge as the Brony Fanbase IS so much older then many cartoon fanbases the information is shared alot easier and faster. So when it comes time due to ratings, fan outcry, toy sale, etc. To make a full length film, the writers are being very clever.

EQgirls, the first film in what I will guess is going to be a Trilogy at this point, took place in the human-world offshoot to the show. Where the mane (see what I did there?) cast have human instead of pony dopple gangers in another dimension. This allows for two things, one and formost, toy sales. You can only sell so many Stuffed animals of Pony Twilight, but give her a human form and boom! Second and least acknowledged due to the moronic state of the internet generation that scream things like "I want it now! now now now!" or "OMG just do things the way I WANT THEM!". You have our beloved cast of mares/colts humanized for better relation. Explain? Gladly! MLP was born in 1983, since then It has gone to great highs and lows in terms of fanbase support and public knowledge of its existance. Having been born in the same year and become a firm lover of the cartoon at age 6 in 89, the addition of human characters in the show gave MY GENERATION, a connection to them. We could watch a young girl interact with candy colored talking ponies. So we related more to them and often dreamed of BEING that girl/boy. MLP in its current form, doesnt allow for "real human" characters to be introduced, it would be too ackward and has had a ton of 4th wall jokes (thanks pinkie...sigh) done on its behalf already. What it DOES allow for is seeing our girls AS humans. The developers, writers and producers of MLP spotted this and put out EQgirls, and in my opinion it was a master stroak of genius. Sure the film didnt "go over" well with the fans. But think of it as that first sip of a coffee "ow ow too hot, blow blow blow, siiiiiip, better!". It was a shock to our systems and perhaps a bit much for its time.

Rainbow Rocks, is a return to EQgirls land. And Hasbro is riding high on its legacy of "Musical Animation". Being a child of the 80s and 90s I can tell you there is NOTHING better then animated films with songs in them. (Thank you Disney!) This element has been lost over the 2000-2009 period but has since "made a come back". To be simple, blunt and to the point, this move to make a film about our fav 6 girls rocking out on stage with throw backs too the older Brony fanbase (KISS, Gem and the Holograms, etc) is again a showing of just how much DHX and Hasbro REALIZE they have full grown adults to market too in this kids show. As far as the "target audiance" goes, its a movie about 6 of there favorate heroines, singing songs and promoting friendship...how is that bad? How is it wrong? How is it NOT LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE DONE FOR CHILDREN...:arm extension, exhale:

If you do not "get" Rainbow Rocks, I pity you. And I mean no disrespect. It only means your a child of the late 90s and you missed the hay day of good animation and video games, of marketing and social structure, when the internet was young and innocent, when you would RUN from the bus stop after school to watch your afternoon disney cartoons. I am aware these elements are still out there on things like Youtube, Readit, etc. To be further blunt, its OK that you do not "get" Rainbow Rocks, it shows your deep love for the "Main" show, and perhaps these offshoot films are just not for you.

Give it a watch, judge it after that.

Well there's still a lot of info we don't know about, from what I've seen so far all they have released(besides the shorts) is the basic plotline(the humane 6 form a band and enter a Battle of the Bands thingy)and no one knows how it's all gonna come into play yet

I say wait until more stuff is released

I understand if you're not excited for the movie, but you can just post this opinion in the Rainbow Rocks thread. :P

I grinned awkwardly and this came to mind...

I'm not going to lie, it seems kind of strange...but, I'm keeping an opened mind because despite the many flaws of the first film (and the obvious fact that it was trying to cash in on the 'Monster High' demographic), it was still better than I expected.

With that said, I will watch it before judging it, but I would like to see what relevance musical ability actually has to do with Rainbow Power, but perhaps we'll learn that by this Season's finale.

The EG movies require some "suspension of disbelief" from the MLP: FIM series. Not to be confused with comparing reality with fiction. Just don't try to compare FIM logic with EG logic.

EG is a new world with a different approach, rules, and logic.

I'm not particularly interested in it at all. I feel it was a lame move to make another EG movie.

Out of all the previews/info about the movie that's been released, I've only bothered to look at a small bit of it.

I absolutely plan to watch it, more than one even, but because I want to be knowledgable on everything in MLP.

I can't wait to see what sort of events they conjured up that will require Twilight to go back to the EG world

Me too, there's no info on what the actual plot is (if it even exists), other than that it's clearly about rock bands. Okay, what exactly about rock bands? To me it does indeed feel like a waste of time, but only because they haven't explained anything about the plot beyond "bandz bro". It's really hard to sell a story when you're failing to provide one.

I am excited for the new movie. I think the "Rainbow Rocks" title and the rock band plot have something to do indirectly with the rainbow eye effect we have seen on the mane 6 in season 4. From watching the last few previews I was able to figure out that Rainbow Dash is the one starting and running the band comprised of the human mane 6 which I think is fitting for her character and ties into the movie title all too perfectly. You have to remember that Hasbro definitely sees EG as a cash cow. They seem to be trying to cash in on a High School Musical type of idea here. So it is no waste to them.
