Stellar Eclipse (aka the OC in the Trade Ya episode)

Well, in the Trade Ya episode, we caught a look on a very peculiar pony.

Turns out he is an OC. Yep.

Well, that's not the full story. EQG has actually posted a nice explanation about it:

Yesterday's episode played host to this new guy up above, who outside of using a steampunky style wheelchair actually has a pretty interesting back story.  He was added as part of a Make a Wish Foundation pledge.  For those that don't know what that is, it's basically an organization that grants a wish for a child diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.  A few people pointed out that unlike most of the incidental ponies, Stellar Eclipse actually popped up in the credits.

Unfortunately, the poor kid has Spinal Muscular Atrophy type III (more information on that over here).  It looks like Make a Wish collaborated with the guys over at DHX and added his character, voiced by him, to the show.

Outside of that, we can't elaborate too much further for the sake of not bombarding him with the brony armada (by request).  I'd say this is a pretty awesome occurrence though. DHX and Make a Wish rock!

Thanks to everyone that sent in bits and pieces about it!

So, how do you feel about it? Are you happy for Sylvain because he got his wish granted? Are you angry because an OC was featured? Do you think his OC fits the show style? Will you do fanart/fanfiction with his OC?

Personally, I loved that DHX made something like that. Besides, his OC looks very cool. It's not a black and red pony, but the purple streak really does fit. Not counting that awesome "wheel chair" design. I personally wouldn't mind finding some fanart of him. :3

Interesting story. :)

His OC perfectly fits the show style. I really like they introduce some OC in the show. As long as it's occasional.

I think it was awesome that he got his wish and had his character put in the show. It would certainly be a dream of mine to get my OC in, even as a background pony with no voice. The Make A Wish Foundation rocks that way.

(They did something similar in the U.S. for a fan of Disney's Phineas and Ferb, who likewise got inserted into an episode and voiced herself.)

As an aside, this may finally be the push Hasbro needed to fulfil one of the intentions of Lauren Faust when she created the show. Now that we've seen a pony in the equivalent of a wheelchair that has been received fairly well, perhaps they will finally deal with that other elephant in the room - Scootaloo's inability to fly.

Wow, I thought that he was a pretty awesome pony already, but that's really something else.

As an avid League of Legends player, it still touches me whenever I hear the champion Jax say "Here's to you kid." That was a quote added to the game due to the Make a Wish foundation helping Joe, a kid who later died of cancer, get a visit to Riot Games's headquarters.

I love little things like this, and it makes me happy to see them.

I'm happy that DHX and Hasbro actually gave the time to do such a thing. I remember the Make-A-Wish Foundation doing something similar with a boy who was unfortunately dying of cancer at the time who was made into a free agent in an EA Sports NHL game.

Having an OC in the show is a rare and special occurrence due to the large amount of OCs in the fandom and the legal implications, as well as the implied favoritism. I think it should stay that way; only offer these kinds of opportunities to those who truly deserve it.

I agree with Gilda. For special occasions like this where the OC fits into the show well enough as is, it is perfectly fine. It shows growth in the writers who are willing to do things like this and its super cool for the young man to be able to have that happen for him. I wouldn't want it to become a common thing, but this was definitely a cool experience.

I gotta hoof it to Hasbro, that what they did, was just beyond nice.........that was a blessing for that kid.  If you think about it, how many companies would do such a kind thing like that. My prayers are with Sylvain and hope he recovers, :D

I applaud for Hasbro.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but I heard about this story and thought it was touching.

Then a non-brony friend told me she saw something on tumblr about people making...lewd artwork of Stellar Eclipse. Mainly because his family, the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the show's producers etc. asking the fandom not to do so.

Has anyone else heard about this or know if there's any truth in it? It makes me feel sick to my stomach.

So people can be such d-bags. I had someone on my facebook (not a friend) that commented a picture I posted of Stellar Eclipse. I had posted a picture and said 'My new fav. background pony'. He started talking smack and saying how much he hated bronies and hated Hasbro because they created caricatures of disabled people (he referenced Derpy) and that I was awful for liking it because it made fun of cripples (Cripples- yeah, so PC *eye roll*). I then told him that the character was a Make a Wish. He looked really stupid, but it's jerks like this that piss me off; because they shoot their mouth off and they don't know what they're talking about. That, and the dash-holes that post lewd artwork where kids can see it because they want to troll. If it's hidden from childrens eyes, I don't care, clop away. But don't ruin the fandom and a wonderful thing just because you want to be an bastard.

I really liked the new OC from this week :3 The wheelchair for his back legs was cool, and I loved his color scheme, design and personality, even his voice. Come to think of it, there were lots of great OC and background characters in this episode. Pretty much every stall pony that we saw looked pretty neat, and was unique.

I love the fact that he was voiced by a kid who suffers from similar physical issues too, it's all pretty neat if you ask me. Guy should show up more often. He had the best line of the episode!

Yay for laziness :3

Stellar Eclipse should get his own fanclub thread.

Do eet.

His addition to the show is very sweet, and the story it left behind is sweeter.

@@Ano170, I've learned through experience that you have to take Tumblr with a grain of salt. There are some really nasty people there that don't represent the fandom and are truly ignorant. If I recall that was my a lone, single no-name artist who made two artworks, and knowing the fandom there will be hundreds of fanworks tha willt outnumber the hate art. Remember that this is the same website that convinces people that cutting chocolate a certain way, you get infinite chocolate (which we clearly know is not possible).

There's really no reason to be mad at all. Unless you talk of the haters who want to push a political agenda on you.

Wow, this is pretty amazing I didn't really think too much about this because I thought we saw ponies like this in " leap of faith" but, now that I read the full story behind this, I think it's an awesome thing that Hasbro and the MAWF did. He's a pretty awesome character and having your OC and voice in the show is a once in a lifetime opportunity that a lot of people don't get to experience.

I thought he was great, the VA did a fine job and the lines he had where rather amusing. He felt really chill and just "...who are these two annoying mares bugging me while im hungry" (ive been there). He felt kinda, real? So good stuff imo.

....But lets be honest, I only really took into account his stuff in my second viewing, the 1st was filled with SO MUCH RARIJACK IT HURT! /swoon!

Yeah, that was a really cool thing of the show's staff to do, I mean at first I just thought he happened to be a random secondary character with a wheelchair(wheelbarrowchair?), but knowing that his inclusion was actually based on a Make-a-Wish thing is really quite heartwarming. :)

Thanks for clearing that up - I don't really frequent Tumblr myself, so I didn't really know what to make of the story, but it cast enough doubt that I thought I'd ask around. The thought of just one person being sick enough in the head to make hateful clopart of the OC of a disabled boy still casts a slight shadow on this story for me, but at least my faith in the fandom as a whole is restored.

I think this was a great thing to do for anyone going through something like this. Honestly, I'd hate to see just random OC's in episodes, but doing it for someone through Make-A-Wish is completely okay with me.  :)
