Tectonic plates move at about the same rate that toenails grow.

You can tell if an egg is raw by spinning it on the table, stopping it with your finger and then quickly letting go. If it starts to spin again, it's raw. This is because the yolk is still moving inside when you stop the shell, so it will slowly start to spin again.

Dogs can see in color it's just a matter of how many. Certain breeds see more than others, and all see less than humans.

There are more possible order combinations of a 52 card deck than there have been seconds in the universe.

Eating one banana every day for a year radiates you more than living next to a stable nuclear plant for a year.

Fine! I'll share some "real" facts.

Even though it's a fact that Rarity is best pony

Did you know the signature line on a check is actually not a line, but a bunch of very small words, so small that they appear to be a line.

This is done to prevent the use of fake checks, as most printers aren't able to replicate such small texts.

Hey it's true! Mine say AUTHORIZEDSIGNATUREAUTHORIZEDSIGNATURE etc.

Facts:

Alkali elements have a +1 charge, meaning they desire one extra electron (which contain a negative charge). Alkaline elements have a +2 charge, meaning they desire two extra electrons. An easy way to remember this is that between alkali and alkaline, alkaline has two more letters, and they are in group II (2), AND they desire two electrons. Just remember alkaline = 2.

A potato is actually a root, and a root is actually a stem.

A mouse can fit into an opening the width of a dime.

Apples were used almost exclusively to produce hard cider for most of human history.

Stone tools appear in the fossil record around 2.4 million years ago.

Fire is not utilized until approximately 400,000 years ago.

The wheel, often considered an early invention of mankind, is actually not invented until around 5,500 years ago.

Water is the only substance which occurs naturally on Earth in all three material states (solid, liquid, gas), and is the only known substance which expands when frozen. This expansion is due to the unique hexagonal pattern water molecules assemble when they freeze.

The more you know, the more you grow, 'cuz knowledge is power! And power is delicious.

The moon appears bigger when it's close the horizon, I'm sure you've all noticed this. Most people think it's because of atmospheric distortion, but this is not true. It's actually bigger because the brain naturally 'zooms in" on far away things, making then slightly easier to focus on. When the moon is close to the horizon, the brain sees the horizon and thinks "hey, the moon is near the horizon, it must be really far away, I'll make it a little bigger." But when it is in the sky, the only background is the sky, and there is nothing for the brain to measure with, so it appears smaller.

On topic: It is believed that Shakespeare was 46 around the time that the King James Version of the Bible was written. In Psalms 46, the 46th word from the first word is shake and the 46th word from the last word is spear.

The Solar System has eight planets, four dwarf planets and one star, with a hypothetical additional planet and another star.

In order of distance, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Ceres, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake and Eris, with The Sun or "Sol". The theorized celestial bodies are a super-giant gas planet four times the size of Jupiter somewhere in the Oort Cloud called Tyche, and a possible brown dwarf star at about 1 Lightyear away called Nemesis.

Out of all of them, Haumea has the most interesting orbit. This is an animation that shows its orbital eccentricity, with Neptune (the blue dot) stationary for reference.

Decimation means to destroy a tenth, not to completely rip it up.

Ultimate means the last eg; the ultimate car lost the race.

Random fact: Words often have more than one meaning, and their meanings often change over time. Whilst both of the above meanings are acceptable, "decimation" also means "to destroy a large portion of" and "ultimate" also means "the greatest possible, maximum, or most extreme". :P

The first country to recognise the USA's independence was the Sultanate of Morocco.

Thomas Paine - one of the USA's founding fathers - was elected to the National Assembly of revolutionary France despite not speaking French.

Mongol warriors had 3 or 4 horses each, and could survive for about a month on these horses' milk and blood alone.

The human race produces enough food to feed 11 billion people. A huge portion of this food then goes on to feed livestock.

In 1752, there were only 354 days in Great Britain and its colonies. This was because Britain adopted the Gregorian Calendar in place of the Julian calendar. The lost days were September 3 – September 13 inclusive.

When a dog is having intercourse, its penis is known to swell to conform to the entirety of the hole it's entering. The point of this is so said dog's mate cannot escape until he's reached orgasm; just another one of biology's ways of ensuring that babies keep being made.

Now consider for a moment a considerably obese dog with numerous heart problems doing the horizontal boogie, everything is fine... but wait! The excitement is too much for this hound and he has a heart attack, dropping dead on the spot mid-coitus. Understanding the nature of canine sex and the way their members swell to prevent their mate's escape, keep in mind the concept of rigor mortis which indicates the almost immediate stiffening of all of an animal's muscles upon being dead for a while.

Swelled penis, all up in there, hardens and cannot soften to allow exit of the vagina, etc.

The result of this is that the female dog - or zoophiliac deviant, of course! - having intercourse with this obese animal will be stuck with stiffened dead dog weiner inside of them and, subsequently, a dog attached to them until it is removed by means most likely necessitating surgery.

tl;dr - If you are, for whatever reason, having sex with a dog, do not allow it to die or you'll be in store for what's likely going to be an awkward visit to the physician.

Fascinating!

For over 100 years, research on the Moon illusion has been conducted by vision scientists who invariably have been psychologists specializing in human perception. After reviewing the many different explanations in their 2002 book The Mystery of the Moon Illusion, Ross and Plug conclude "No single theory has emerged victorious".[5] The same conclusion is reached in the 1989 book, The Moon Illusion edited by Hershenson, which offers about 24 chapters written by different illusion researchers.

Horses sweat.

Just a rumor (I haven't actually verified this yet) but if a male lion is lazy enough that he doesn't want to get his own food, he will eat his own cubs.

Adolf Hitler only had one testicle.

Actually that was never proven. He had all medical records of himself destroyed and the body the Soviets discovered and assumed to be his was burned and in no condition to make clear whether he was in fact monorchid.

There's some historical facts and one medical one.

Monorchid is a person who has one testicle :P

It's an idiom.

Fact.
