Hey guys. I am wondering what you guys think. So you know about luna and her turning into nightmare moon. What if it says because she felt unappreciated and did that so people could finally pay attention to her nights and her moon?

Yeah, I think thats it. Its mainly because of all the attention that Celestia was getting and she got jealous and she wanted to be the ONLY princess. With all of those feelings she turned into Nightmare Moon.

And I really feel sorry for luna Celestia could have banished her for at least 100 years

What if I told you, according to Lauren Faust herself, that during those 1000 years Celestia was spending time on the moon trying to free her sister from Nightmare Moon's control but failed at every turn? Really, the whole point of the season 1 pilot was a desperate gambit from Celestia to save her sister from Nightmare Moon by finding new elements of harmony bearers to use them.

Also, I also find it hard to feel sorry for her when she tried to usurp and dethrone her sister because she decided to consort with daemons for control of the kingdom.

I like this, it really makes you feel Celestia's pain in having to banish her own sister and her attempt to free her only to fail all those years.

Thank you, and I shouldn't have spoken in an abrasive manner in my post. I was being kind of an ass in my statement. I apologize to anyone and especially to Matt20.

Yea, Celestia always seemed to shine brighter than Luna and eventually that caused Luna to snap and the darkness in her heart to take over, thus she became Nightmare Moon!

I don't thank that's a theory, more of a pushing plot point in the very first episode.  Did I miss something?

Makes sense considering Celestia was obviously torn by having to banish her (just finally got to Season 4 on Sunday). I actually kind of like that ... a lot.

The Nightmare forces manipulated her with the fact that she felt unappreciated and lonely, and convinced her to get possessed by them. They told her that if she let them take over her, the world would appreciate the night and she would be respected and beloved by all.

It's in the comics, yo.

She was under appreciated (or at least it felt that way) because the citizens of Equestria worked and played all day, but slept through her beautiful night-which caused her to feel unloved and become frustrated.

In regards to Nightmare Moon, she was essentially a prisoner within her own body while she was corrupted and the fear citizens had lead to the creation of Nightmare Night which as shown in 'Luna Eclipsed' was a pretty grim reminder of her fall from grace.

So I would say that she has been under-appreciated both before and after her transformation, until the end of the aforementioned episode.

Luna felt unloved and frustrated since her citizens slept through the night, which she thought that she was under appreciated by them. To me, I feel that she has been under-appreciated before and after she became Nightmare Moon.

I still feel sorry for her and she (to me) is the best Alicorn

Yes, I do also. It's like the feeling of being second best, there is always one above you, in this case it is Luna and Celestia.

"Did you really expect me to sit idly by while they all bask in your precious light?!"

Of course she felt unappreciated. That's the whole reason she transformed.

Luna is the younger, overshadowed sibling. Her sister is bright and brings the sun and the day. The sun is warm and bright, as is Celestia. Luna is darker and brings the moon and the night. The night is cold and dark, as Luna turns into.

"The ponies relished and played in the day her elder sister brought forth...but shunned and slept through her beautiful night."

After years of being basically  ignored by all the subjects, she started feeling bitter.

"The bitterness in the young one's heart transformed her into a wicked mare of darkness.."

Her jealousy and bitterness took over the love she had for her sister. Moreso, Celestia didn't do much to try and stop it until it was too late.

I'm curious as to what Celestia's reaction was to Luna transforming. What we saw was Luna transforming and Twilight's reaction; Tia didn't step in until afterwards.

"Not another step."

"Princess Luna! Where are we? Why did you and Celestia disappear?"

Did you really expect me to sit idly by while they all bask in your precious light?!"

"Precious light?"

"There can only be one Princess in Equestria..and that Princess will be ME!"

....

....

....

"Luna! I will not fight you! You must lower the moon! It is your duty!"

"Luna? I am..Nightmare Moon."

Luna is my favorite princess and always will be, even when she was shown as the villain, Nightmare Moon, I adored her and found her much more interesting than Celestia. Not to say Celestia is awful, she's just shown too much and has been shown WAY more than Luna.

<3 Luna

Luna under appreciated? Perhaps in the Equestrian world, but not in our world by any means. Seriously, I never met a single brony who dislikes Luna, some bronies refer to her more zealous fans as 'Luna-tics'.

I don't think she'll run into that problem again.  Luna Eclipsed made sure of that.  And, even if her subject don't appreciate her, I always will.
