I know these are super hero movies and we cannot over think these kinda things. I loved Winter Soldier...It's almost if not better than the first Iron Man. It's close with The Avengers though. That's the problem....THE AVENGERS! Why did Hydra want to kill 20 million to enslave humanity when we have the following

An industrialist who essentially controls all military technology

2 demi gods

A giant green gamma powered monster that gets stronger with rage and is near invincible

Aliens that destroyed NYC on chariots with giant leviathans

Also.....Purple Darkseid(Thanos)

Why did Hydra want to do this? are they that stupid? aliens coming to destroy humanity and enslave humanity... Let's enslave our own kind before aliens do...Dam!

Hydra never struck me as being made up of sane people to begin with...

Even I wanted to question this too, they don't care what problems are in their way as long as they get the job done. Plot holes, everybody.

I found it disturbing that Hydra killed Howard Stark 0-o Imagine if Tony found out.

Maybe the Mandarin(the obnoxious CEO of a failed company) made a deal with Hydra on developing that serum that makes human DNA unstable.

Perhaps. Anyway, still loved the Winter Soldier even with the one problem. :P

People didn't love the First Avenger... I think it's awesome and underrated. Honestly Thor and Incredible Hulk weren't that great.

Even if they weren't great, they were all connected in some way and that didn't stop us from watching to our hearts content.

One must assume that was the whole point of Phase 2: arming SHIELD with weapons derived from HYDRA technology so that they could eventually combat the threat of alien invaders in addition to enslaving the planet. Of course, no one -- save perhaps for Loki -- even knows Thanos exists, and thus that point is ultimately moot.

HYDRA's ideology is driven toward standing master of the world and the human race. Mixed with the military industrial complex that arose following World War II, the HYDRA philosophy warps into a strange, disturbing vision of a world which needs masters in order to remain safe. Loki's invasion and that of the Chitauri only reinforced the urgency of that vision. The goal of Project Insight was thus to preemptively stop threats, whether foreign (i.e., from beyond Earth) or domestic.

At the end of the day, though, it's better to reign in hell than serve in heaven. I'm sure most HYDRA true believers would prefer to turn Earth into their personal fortress to rebuke any further incursions from extraterrestrials.

I questioned this even before the movie from the comics themselves. They make a big deal with terrorist organizations and other villains like Hydroman or The Leader, but hows that stop the likes of Ergo, Galactus or Dormammu in blowing the living shit of earth anyways?

I don't get human nature.... Enslave and kill your own kind.....What does it give you? What some temporary ego boost? There's nothing to gain from war on your own species. Thanos snapped his fingers and destroyed a galaxy... HYDRA better pack bigger guns.

HYDRA's ideology isn't exactly rational, if the whole plan for systematically wiping out millions of people was any indication. But I suspect someone like Alexander Pierce would say that those who oppose HYDRA ultimately undermine the "security" of humankind.

Three heavily armed Helicarriers with the need for minimal crew were exactly the guns they were planning to pack.

security in exchange for giving up freedom is slavery and no security at all.
