I usually just wear levi denizen jeans straight and sometimes slim, black or dark shirt, and vans or nikes. And sometimes a snapback. To me thats just like a casual low maintance look. And a nice fitting hoodie or flannel in the fall and winter. I love denizen jeans they fit me so great and are only 30$. Theres definetly a huge difference in the way cheap clothes like walmart fit.

As a heterosexual male, I worry about my look a lot. I used to think I was weird because of it, but as I grew older I stopped caring. I like looking good.

I try to find outfits all the time, but I have difficulties at times. Also money is a factor.

 I usually wear:

-Fitted shirt with some type of cultural reference, whether it be video games, anime, Hatsune Miku, or some sports teams

-Slim/ Slim-Straight blue jeans

-Black adidas shoes, or Red converse

-Sometimes I wear a beanie if I don't feel like styling my hair

Depending on the weather, I would also wear flannels, Henley's with tee shirts over them. I still however, feel like I'm not really stylish enough. But good stuff usually costs an arm and a leg. But regardless, it's nice to see other guys care too.

It's strange that you should say that as I love women's clothes haha ^.^ I really wish it was socially acceptable for non-Scottish men to wear dresses...ooh and nail polish and make up. Women's fashion is just so much better than men's!

To be honest, I'm pretty sure foundation for men is becoming quite popular now. Probably because if you use it right, it's almost invisible anyway.

But I see what you mean! Ladies clothes are lovely and colourful, especially in spring and summer. We certainly have more creative options! And you're right, dresses and skirts are awesome. I love them. To be honest, super girly clothes suit me very well, I look quite severe if I dress boyish. (Which is why I'm jealous, I guess, haha.)

There are just some years in women's fashion though, where nearly everything coming off the runway is completely blegh. The most recent one was about a year back, when everyone decided to spend a whole season churning out 80's fluorescent garbage. At least with mens fashion, the core of it remains consistent year in, year out. And it just looks cool.

Trech coats and scarves and button-down shirts, oh my.

I want to look fabulous though! I hope it will one day socially acceptable for me to dress like Jessica Rabbit in public, but nope, just gonna have to wait until Halloween :( (I did Britney Spears last year. The reaction I got was...mixed)

First of all, I hate polos. I think they are the ugliest clothings in the universe.

Personaly, I've been wearing the same t-shirts for the last three years, mostly that Molson one. And also jeans and that's it. Not enough money for fancy stuff.

First off, I want to say, what an awesome thread!

A small part of me wishes I were a dude, because you guys always have great fashion options and your clothes can look hot as hell with a little bit of effort. I'm jelly. (Women's fashion is a giant hit-or-miss depending on the season.)

Wow.  This is so interesting.  I often kind of wish I was female because I've always been a bit jealous of the diversity of fashion options women have.  See, it's socially acceptable for women to wear basically anything.  I.e. a woman can dress in men's clothes and nobody cares.  But men sure as hell can't dress in women's clothes and expect it to be acceptable.  I've always felt like there's an unfair double standard when it comes to fashion.  I'm not saying I literally want to cross dress, but it feels like there are so much fewer fashion options for guys.  Women can wear pants, or a skirt, or a dress.  But guys can basically only wear pants.  Or shorts.  It's just pants, shorts, shirts.  That's it.  It feels so boring.  But your post is so fascinating, and kind of cheers me up for some reason.  I never knew anyone felt a similar way from the opposite side.  I guess it all depends on one's perspective.

I know exactly what you mean.  Due to my frustrations with lack of fashion options for men, I decided awhile back to take matters into my own hooves.  I made a custom outfit that challenges the norms.  The top is an exact replica of Cloud's sleevless shirt from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children.  The bottom is a black version of the Greek skirt-type thing that Kratos wears in the God of War series.  I made a God of War II variant, and a God of War III variant.  I wear Xero Shoes with this outfit.  If you've never heard of those, they're a minimalist sandal that fit perfectly with this sort of outfit.  Depending on the tying style, they look like they could be ancient Greek or something.  I usually wear a couple necklaces with the outfit, one long and one short, as well as black forearm bands that look very similar to the ones worn by Fang in Final Fantasy XIII.  I wear this outfit everywhere, and I've gotten some nice compliments.  Unfortunately it gets quite cold here for a lot of the year, so my opportunities to wear it are limited.

I also bought a replica of the velvet coat worn by Aragorn during the reuniting of the Fellowship in Rivendell at the end of Return of the King.  I wear that around regularly as well.  I love it because of how it flows.  It feels like as close as a guy can get to a dress, but still being masculine and socially acceptable.  I wore that to a sci-fi/fantasy convention last February.  I fit right in, but it was kind of ironic because I wear it all the time, so it's not a costume for me.  If I don't want to be quite as conspicuous, I'll wear what I call my "Ocean's 11," which is a black tux jacket with a white shirt, the top couple of buttons undone, and the shirt collar worn over the jacket.  The shirt is actually a western shirt, which is more comfortable and gives it just the right amount of casual but still fancy look.  I hate the dress shirts that are stiff and crunchy.  I wear a black and silver kimono on occasion as well.  Sometimes I'll even go western, too.  I'm actually a big horse rider, so that look actually makes a bit of sense.  I like that I can pull off a lot of different looks.  Unfortunately, I don't really get out that much and have nowhere to wear these outfits, and no friends where I live to do things with.

Anyway, fun thread.  Thanks for making it, OP!  And to any guys that wish there were more interesting fashion options for men, I encourage you to think outside the box and try making something!  Characters in movies and games wear all these amazing outfits; I see no reason why we can't expand our fashion options and wear stuff like that irl.  And I'm talking simplified outfits, not literal cosplay.  It looks great in the movies and games, and it would look great irl, too.  You just have to be brave enough to try.  Believe me, I was extremely nervous to wear that Cloud/Kratos outfit, which I have dubbed "Project Olympus," but it was worth it.  In fact, somehow I wouldn't be surprised if you get even less negative comments or funny looks than if you wear an MLP t-shirt!

I'm not quite sure it's socially acceptable for me to dress like Jessica Rabbit, either! But I have to agree with you and @@Justin_Case001; it's a shitty double standard and I wish it wasn't the case.

Back when I used to work checkouts at a supermarket, I had two guys come through in slinky black cocktail dresses. (They'd lost a bet. I asked.) But how cool would it be for men to be able to wear that stuff if they felt like it? Why do dresses, skirts and sparkles have to be a girly thing?

More of this, please.

Fans-of-the-Orijin-Culture-Facebook-fan-

I don't think dresses get much manlier than this.

Don't get me wrong, I do love women's fashion! And men's fashion. And just... fashion in general. Ordinary mens fashion looks ridiculous on me though, regardless of how much I love the looks. I'm far too short to pull off tailored pants or knee-length shorts, and I generally just look really severe. Florals and dresses are definitely my thing; especially as I keep my hair very short. If I were male though, I'd still be having a lot of fun with clothes. Mens fashion is much harder to be creative with, but some guys have a flair for it and they put together outfits which look phenomenal.

Suit up, boys! It's always fancy. Just don't rob any casino(s), and you'll be fine.

In public  usually just wear some black shorts, and a random t-shirt. I sometimes wear my purple homestuck sweatshirt, depending on the weather.

I don't really care what other guys wear.

button down shirts/french cuffs, vest, (fitted) jeans, proper pair of black shoes, Danier coat, is what I wear.

Maintain a proper weight (you don't have to be buff), cut your damn hair. Hmm .. yeah.

What do people think of Wife Beaters btw? I like both like the look and have one but am unsure whether I am muscular enough for it to look good or not :S

Ew ew ew ew ew.

Wife-beaters are like undergarments and in California if it's just plain white then you look like a gangsta (That's not good where I live).

Wife-beaters in general looks like trash on anyone.

Completely agree with the point you're making, but I do have to point one thing out:

img-2627042-1-wolverine1.jpg

Ugh. Note that Wolverine looks so much cooler in the X-men suit.

Meh, I don't really give a crap about my fashion to be honest. Like I try not to wear some stupid combination of colors, but even with that I have a terrible sense of fashion, and I'm already ugly, so wearing whatever doesn't really make a difference.

It also doesn't help that finding clothes that fit me well is almost impossible sometimes. I'm like really skinny, but still decently tall, and with stuff like pants, its hard to find ones that fit.

But if it matters for casual stuff I usually just wear some Tshirt, nothing in particular, I seriously will wear anything from bright colored shirts, to black. All depends on what I feel like wearing. Then I usually wear shorts if its summer, and if it gets cold enough I wear pants. And of course if it gets cold enough I also wear a jacket or something.

Pretty simple.

For formal, I usually just wear a dressy long sleeved shirt, along with a tie possibly depending on if its formal enough to do so. I sometimes wear a coat or suit or something of that nature if its really formal. Then I just wear black dress pants and some black shoes and black socks.

And that's basically it. Simple, and I don't really look that good in anything anyways. Not that I look really that good regardless, so I really just don't care much.

Sure maybe it might make girls think higher of me or something, but not only am I not good at having a fashion sense, nor do I feel like spending the time on it, nor do I even look good naturally anyways. Plus, i'm not super interested in bothering with dating, not just because I couldn't get a date even if I wanted to(Although a good portion of the reason) but because I really don't care about it right now that much, being in highschool it isn't like it will last mostlikely. It'll just end up causing drama.

So yeah, I'm not a guy with good fashion sense, sorry.

What is the appeal of wearing black casually? Granted, if you're at a formal thing then black clothes are the way to go but if you wear black casually...Man I think navy blue and lighter colors like cerulean, light gray, and white make you look more upbeat than someone wearing black. I guess it's because of all the sun in California and black is something strange to wear here.

I'm skinny muscular but I love them, I don't think I look particularly good in them but they're comfortable. Normally I wear a well fitted t-shirt and slim fit jeans, basic style :yay:

Black is one of those colors, that goes with nearly anything, so its versatile. However, wearing it in a place where the weather usualy is warm, seems to be kinda dumb since black is a color that absorbs heat easier then other colors.

Despite being a dude I've always found female fashion more inspiring to study than male fashion, and it sort of reflects in my views on guy fashion. I think the height of the male aesthetic is the 'pretty boy', not especially burly or bulky, more lean, with somewhat femme clothing, slim cuts. The sort of aesthetic that's popular in Europe and Japan especially. I suppose I'm biased because I largely have those features myself though.

You know what I like? Pockets. You guys have pockets on just about everything. Your shirts and your jeans. And your jeans have pockets that are HUGE. Us ladies have either fake pockets or really tiny pockets. It sucks. :(

Fashion? Pff. You bunch of womenfolk. You all talk about fashion and want to look unique but when THE BIG FELLAH walks down the street in his singlet, you all stare in awe. You tiny little skinny womenfolk in your emo jeans so tight I can see your nutsack and your popped-collar polo shirts, stop and look at me. You laugh, but that's when I (A REAL MAN) powerbomb you onto the concrete and watch your spine snap like a twig. Then I sling your laydeez over my shoulders and carry them off to show them exactly why they call me THE BIG FELLAH (hurrhurrhurrhurrwinkwinknudge)

....Yeah, anyway, to be serious, I prefer my clothes baggy. Generally speaking, if i'm lounging around it's a baggy t-shirt and baggy jeans. If i'm going out, I generally swear by Emperor Eternity. I never go overtly baggy if I'm going out. If I go formal, I have suits that fit, but I pair them with a waistcoat (If it's summer and the jackets coming off) or a woollen trenchcoat and a black brimmed hat (if it's cold).

Anyway, my thoughts on male fashion:

> I wear kilts casually. It's comfortable. Always wear underwear, though. It's good hygiene. Some people laugh at me, some people look in shock, i've had a few tourists even take pictures once (No. Seriously. This was in Fort William though so they probably thought I was a piper on his way to play or something.) In warm weather, your gonads will thank you for giving them proper air. If you've got good legs (Not you skinny men with tiny little chicken legs, but those of you with calves that are STRONK and toned thighs) then they're a good alternative to shorts. Try it.

> 3/4 sleeved shirts - Yeah, I get the same effect by rolling up the sleeves on my bloody long-sleeved shirts. And the laydeez love that "Oh look at his forearms and his sleeves are rolled up so he's hard at work" look instead of the "Did he really pay money for sleeves that look like they don't fit?" look.

Also, checked/plaid shirts with sleeves rolled up makes you look like a hick. A plain white shirt with sleeves rolled up makes you look like an actual worker. Also, if you've got a garish tattoo sleeve done by Drunken Goth Lucifer, just don't roll your sleeves up at all. Nobody wants to see tacky tattoos.

> Polo shirts are fine, especially for Summer. JUST DON'T POP THE COLLARS AND HAVE THE BUTTONS UNDONE. It makes you look like a tool of the highest order. Only do it if you have some definition on your chest and your mighty pectorals genuinely cannot stand the strain of having buttons done. For you flat-chested skinny boys out there, leave it out. Nobody wants to see your Ken-like chest with no definition.

- Deep V-necks are strictly no-go, even if you do have definition. But you rarely see BIG FELLAH'S wearing them, just these skinny guys who have Ken-like chests with no definition or hair.

> Tracksuits. Only wear them if you're:

i) Going to the gym

ii) Running drugs for your local peddler

iii) Running from the police

> Jeans. Good look perfect for any occasion. NO SKINNY JEANS. Slim jeans? Fine. Bootcut? Fine. Straight cut? Fine. Ultra skinny ladies jeans? NOT IN THIS LIFETIME. In the church of THE BIG FELLAH, no worshipper likes seeing jeans so tight that we can see the outline of your scrotum. Wear fitting jeans or baggy jeans. Skinny jeans are for skinny little things with no muscles. Not to mention they harm your fertility by squishing your gonads and heating your testicles, reducing sperm count. Laydeez and hot guyz (For those of you who are homosexual or bisexual. You can't spell THE BIG FELLAH without Bi.) will appreciate it if you haven't reduced your testes to smoking lumps of coal.

> Shoes. No preference. If you're going formal, please give your shoes a polish and a blacken (if they're black, obviously). Don't go out in scruffy shoes.

> Formal wear. No baggy shirts. Get a suit that fits. It doesn't matter if you're big, small, muscular or obese, get a good suit. My rule is never spend over £100 on items of clothing (If you're spending over £100 on a single pair of jeans, you cannot be trusted with currency.) UNLESS it's a good pair of shoes, a good jacket or a suit. Seriously. A few extra quid on a tailored suit will turn heads and make you look less scruffy.

> No makeup unless you're hiding scars or tattoos.

> Colour-wise? Black is great. It's a neutral colour that suits everyone and anyone. But if it's sunny, try and put on a brighter colour. THE BIG FELLAH wears pink. Don't be afraid to wear pink.

..There we go, I think i've alienated everyone with my views. I'll leave you all to your discussion regarding males and fashion.

Well I said I would make am actual post in this thread at some point.

Casual: T-shirt (Sometimes with graphics on it), khaki shorts or pants.

Business Casual: Usually plain collared shirts, sometimes a collared button shirt depending upon the event sometimes a tie.  And black, navy blue, or khaki pants

Formal: Always a Buttoned collared shirt, usually white or black, always a tie, suit jacket (navy blue or black) And black, navy blue, or khaki pants.

I don't really care for specific brands.

I'm not big on fashion, simply don't know what's hot and what's not and all that, but personally I think I look best in slacks/jeans and flannel shirts of some sort. Lumberjack style. Maybe a dress shirt instead of flannel.

Also have this big fluffy sweater I wear whenever it's not too hog to wear it. Got some basic patterns across the middle. Kinda like those Christmas sweaters you see around. I lurves it.

I honestly don't look good in anything else and I can't stand wearing shorts so even in hot weather this is what I wear.

When it comes to fashion, I face a pretty big dilimma.

You see, I don't have a natural fashion sense. I aim for comfort, and that's it. I can hardly bring myself to spend more than 10 seconds working on my hair. I'm not going to spend so much time, effort, and money trying to make myself look good on a daily basis. I just won't.

However, the problem is that I want to look good to impress women. I don't want girls to think that I'm some sort of hobo or that I don't take care of myself, but at the same time, I don't want them to think I'm someone I'm not. I'm not big on looks or asthetics, and if anyone expects me to be, it will end up bothering me.

So... what do?

I tend to really like long sleeve button ups like below

post-28932-0-09308000-1409546403_thumb.jpg

I do so love my dressy skechers shoes comfy and good enough for work but I like to upgrade to actual dress shoes when I'm not at work or around town.

I do have to say that Nothing beats a freshly ironed white dress shirt and a black suit with a colorful tie

post-28932-0-79214500-1409546966_thumb.jpg

for me when I go to cons I do so love my anime graphic tees I get from Hot Topic

does this make me a Hypocrite?
